I love their great coffee and the owners, Jason and Amanda, are such generous, warm-hearted people. Everyone they hire is like that too. Relaxed vibe, peaceful outdoor patio, free wifi, and good munchies. What's not to love?

Love! We go up to Morro Bay each year to celebrate my fathers and mine birthday. There is nothing like getting up at 5:30 and walking through downtown to get a steaming cup of joe. Then i walk to the fishermans village to watch the seals waking up to the sun. It all starts at Rock!
Hey they painted! since last year its just as nice a little cleaner! -

Nice coffee place with local art on display and internet -enabled computers to use while enjoying one of their mochas.
The mood here is very cozy and laid-back. It's be very easy to find excuses to come here for a treat and sit a while reading or relaxing. It'd be a great place to meet up with a friend to catch up a bit.
They have a number of fresh baked goods to complement your coffee beverage experience. -

Coffee is great, but the service is better. The staff really know how to treat their customers, so welcoming and friendly, especially the owner. It's so refreshing to see an owner that not only understands customer service, but rolls up his sleeves and actually delivers it himself. This guy gets it, and apparently it's contagious because his staff does too.
Free internet access with a coffee purchase is a plus, but our favorite perk (other than the cool staff) is the little private "backyard" seating area. The perfect place to kick-back and sip on a cup of their potent "red-eye" special (my favorite).
For us, it's the only coffee shop we'll visit when we're in Morro Bay. Kudos to the owner for creating such a friendly environment. We can't wait to return. -

What a cafe gem! Good coffee, sweet back yard to drink it in and drink it in we did! I'd hang out there anytime if I could.
Our customer service girl was great! She had a mini "rush" but was organized and relaxed.
There are a few computers to surf on too.
The decor is nice, I LOVE the way they upholstered the chairs with the canvas from coffee bean bags! Neato!
A comfortable place for locals and tourists to hang out. -

Morro Bay is all about watching the bay and the rock. So a business that is not on the waterfront or overlooking the bay is lacking the main attraction. Luckily at The Rock, some of the outside sidewalk seats do get a glimpse of Morro Rock and some ocean blue. If you could care less about the views, there are a couple of tables inside and a couple more in the back patio.
They make espresso from pre-ground Lavazza, which tends to be a bit stale, but still decent. Smoothies are nice. Pastries and teas look good too. -

Blue G.,
I disagree that Morro Bay is all about watching the bay and the rock, although that's a lovely thing to do any time of day and sometimes even night.
There's another thing to consider.... the fact that it doesn't have the tourist draw makes this very much a locals place and an older locals place at that.
As for the coffee being stale.... they roast their own so I gotta think your timing was off that one time. Come try it again and let me know what you think.
P.S. Only two computers now. -

The perfect place for a quick breakfast. Mexican mocha and the bagel sandwich were amazing...super friendly staff...its really clean and super cute. Next time I am in Morrow bay I will def. Be stopping in!
They accidentally messed up our order, but then they gave us the right one, gave back our money and apologized up and down. Of course the food was great so we slipped the $ back into the tip jar :) -

I had a terrific non-alcoholic Pina Colada smoothie that this little place recently.
This spot reminded me of a small beach house which was renovated into this little trendy establishment. For being a really small place--seating area may have been 12 x 15'--it was a really good use of space. Maybe 6 assorted tables (no room here for overstuffed seating), and a wall of three paid Internet PCs for Web surfing. The walls were covered with really good works by local artists
In the back of the store was their "Secluded Garden", which in earlier days most likely was a delightful little back yard. Back there you can sit under plenty of shade and enjoy your drink.
During the hour that I was there, most of the customers who popped by seemed to be locals, and struck up brief conversations to the woman tending the place.
The Rock seems to epitomize the essence of a leisurely Saturday afternoon in Morro Bay. -

This is a place to stop for your morning coffee and breakfast. Super friendly staff. Great coffee and excellent and freshly made to order breakfast burritos and sandwiches. We went here every morning during our stay and loved everything that we had. They also have computers for you to surf the internet, upload photos, whatever you need to do.
They also have a really cute outdoor area in the back. They display local artwork that is very neat to look at. Seating inside and a couple tables in the front of the cafe. -

Friendly staff/owners, affordable coffee and treats, comfortable seating and lots of it considering there is also a patio area. Morro Rock is even in view from the side windows - providing even more of a tranquil atmosphere for those days that may be a lil out of control.
Computers are a plus!!
Rock Espresso makes it very convenient to grab a cup of wake-up, catch up with a few local friends, meet and greet tourists- leting them know the have-to-sees of Morro Bay, check ones mail and catch up on the latest news/gossip from their stack of magazines and newspapers. -

Great coffee, the free WiFi was a bonus, and I could have stayed all day in the secluded back garden knitting and relaxing.

We love this place. At the Rock, you can be guaranteed to enjoy a delicious drink in a relaxing environment without getting gouged by outrageous prices. It's run by a nice, young couple who are friendly and personable. Today when I was in there, I heard them address many customers by name. In addition to 3 computers with free wireless service, there are some books, newspapers and magazines to browse while you sip your beverage. If you want to gaze at Morro Rock, step out the front door and sit at the street side table, otherwise sit inside or out back on the patio and enjoy this local hangout!

Beverly Hills, CA
It's amazing that a small hip little coffee shop like The Rock can have such a loyal following especially when it's not on the coveted Embarcadero and the tree out front has grow so large you can hardly read the sign! The reason is this is the best coffee shop around in many ways. The owners are kind and very talkative with their customers and their new breakfast menu items are very good. It's one of the best places to have meetings because the secluded garden patio out back is cozy and private and has a very zen garden like feel. free wifi is a plus and the support of local artists is clear since they have been featuring a lot of great art on their walls lately.

We recently stayed in Morro Bay for our anniversery, and we were looking for a convenient location that served good coffee latte's. As luck would have it, we went out on a walk in the morning and as we rounded the corner from our motel, we found The Rock Coffee Roasting Company. Recently refurbished with fresh paint, and a nice quiet comfortable patio out back, we ordered two large latte's. Each came with three shots of coffee, and whole milk. The coffee was excellent, full bodied with a nutty taste, and brewed to just the right tempurature. The seating is comfortabale and plentifull, and there are four computers allowing patrons to cruise the internet for 30-minutes free. We chose to sit in the back where the patio with attractive landscaping, and comfortable seating offers the option of either sun, or shade. People are relaxed, and friendly in Morro Bay, and we had a chance to get aquainted with a few of the locals who bring thier dogs to hang out in the front. Before we left town we stopped for a couple of latte's for the road, and wished we had a Rock Espresso Bar in our nieghborhood in San Jose.

The coffee and espresso are not so good. They both taste like they have been sitting out a bit too long. The service is friendly (if a little slow) and the location is nice, but if you are interested in good coffee, you'd actually be better off going someplace else.

Really nice people, and good coffee at good value. Much preferred to the other place in town that can be kind of noisy, crowded, and definitely overpriced. At The Rock, you'll find the internet is free, and the staff accommodating and caring. Only downside is I really wish they'd fix up the garden in back, as it really used to be a beautiful and wonderful place to hang out.

Surprisingly good coffee served by the affable and capable owner which can be enjoyed indoors, at curbside tables and at a bright rear patio.
