Review from Larry L.
Amazingly I haven't written about this place and yet I've been here so many times.
Lots of 5 star reviews yes. But it wasn't like this when they first opened up.
Now it's getting the recognition that it so deserves and yes, methinks for a coffee shop to lounge in and have some chuckles with Bob's your uncle and missy Jones the nosey neighbour, this is the perfect place for it.
They've got a lovely wooden family table at the front.
And if you truly are a coffee connoiseur / artist like my pal Jason L is. It's 5 stars over the bucks and blenz down the touristy block there.
I even needed a soda water, which they didn't have any spring fizzy waters for sale, but they did give me a small glass of soda water, no charge!
I had an Almond "milk" latte. Not that almond flavour you normally get at the bucks and blenz, but almond milk. Maybe you can get it at those aforementioned places, but this was my first here. And of course like so many others, your first is usually the most memorable. :)

This Taiwanese owned and run coffee shop is quite honestly, impeccable. A very relaxed atmosphere, the large communal table dominates one end of the store and invites strangers to sit down and chat.
I sat back with an Americano, read the daily news with the wife and noticed something...it was something you won't get at a Starbucks, it was a truly relaxed and non-stuffy atmosphere. If this coffee shop was an article of clothing, it would be your most comfy sweater that you would never leave.
My favourite coffeeshop in Richmond, in the best neighbourhood of Richmond, Steveston. -

As I sit here writing this Yelp review in Rocanini, I am deducing this is a perfect coffee shop for Yelp writing.
Friendly and welcoming staff. Clean, modern interior with a warm wooden touch of class. Good fresh lighting. Tons of seating of all sizes: single, double, quad and communal. Windows all around for that lovely watch-the-world-go-by cafe feel. Free water and Wi-fi. Free community self-serve library bookshelf for your reading pleasure. Warm panini's, sandwiches, muffins or fresh pastries and tarts.
And we cannot forget the amazing drinks. I'm not much of a coffee drinker or I opted for the Hot Chocolate ($3.80) today. My hot chocolate was decorated with an intricate moon face (I think?) and came in a decent cup size. As I tasted my hot chocolate, it was like drinking a hot liquid of rich, decadent chocolate cake. I loved how it did not have that powdery taste as I sadly neared the bottom of my cup. Probably one of the best hot chocolates - and I've tried a lot in my life-time!
Overall, I know this will be a regular stop for me on the weekdays because weekends get pretty busy, a common Steveston sight. Hopefully next time I'll venture into the coffee realm - lattes, siphoned coffee, drips, mochas here I come...!Listed in: Steveston Treasures

Rocanini is a true coffee boutique. The interior is chic, the baristas trained and the espresso excellent. You would be a fool to go to the Starbucks down the block instead of Rocanini.

Amazing place! It makes the perfect coffee shop, and I'm so happy that's it's located in Richmond.
Corner location, high ceiling, spacious, windows all around. A large communal table on one side, and lots of seating throughout the space. There's large armchairs on one side of the room as well. Fresh flowers all around, and a beautiful chandalier hangs in the middle of the room.
A neat book trading system is also in place: bring in 2 books, and in turn, you can bring home 2 books to read. There's a whole bookshelf of books!
This is a unique place because they have siphon coffee, for $8 a pot. As well, they have cold brew coffee which I have yet to try. They have their own beans for sale, as well and coffee and tea brewing equipment.
I tried their latte today-it was great. Only complaint is that they only have one size, which was a little too small for me.
They also have sandwiches and desserts (which looked amazing) to enjoy with your coffee.
Service was great. Friendly and efficient.
Oh, did I mention that they also have free wi-fi?
Yes, it really doesn't get any better than this. -

Been to Rocanini more than a couple of times, with demographically different people. It was a fantastic experience going with friends or just going with HB, just felt more like we belonged. I have been there with 4 kids (basically a whole family set) and it so happened they were smokin' busy that day too and that wasn't such a pleasant experience. As much as I love hanging out with my nieces/nephews, there was a middle age lady totally giving us the evil eye because well, there was so much space and kids + space = lots of running around. It's huge though so I can see a lot of yummy mommies with their SUV strollers hanging out. You could do a mini fashion show inside. It's gorgeous and spacious yet warm and cozy at the same time.
Pastries are delicious and fresh if only a tad pricey. It's not Dunkin Donuts that's for sure. Their coffee and lattes are fantastic! Not the best I've tasted but certainly the best in that area; they roast and brew their own beans too. It's hard to find a decent cup of coffee in Richmond plus Steveston is all around great for walking around, so this is my go-to place whenever the mood calls for caffeine. -

This place is pretty cool - Clean white walls - along with wooden textured wall in the back. Communal table and funky chandeliers. watching the baristas do their thing - it's so artistic. Cups of coffee are ground to order, and poured through a filter. There's another method to brew coffee... called a syphus? It looked super cool, and if you're willing to spend $8, i would reccommend trying it.
Their coffee is super strong - bf got a macchiato, which also came with a glass of sparkling water - how nice :)
The pastries are super fancy, and my mouth was watering just looking at the chocolate bomb and apple crumble, but opted to share a panini instead.
The sandwich was grilled nicely, and toasty hot. The cheese was oozing out of the sandwich and I wish I had gotten my own sandwich instead of sharing. I don't think Rocanini makes the sandwiches in house, but kudos to their supplier.
The ladies are super nice and smile with all the gazing eyes watching them work - I apologize for being rude, but I am amazed with the artistry of coffee brewing.
Wish this place wasn't so far away in steveston, but I guess it is one of those special gems you just have to drive yourself to! -

Hey all,
I recently had the pleasure of being in Steveston. Lovely little quaint fishing town on the fraser river which spills into the pacific. I popped into Rocanini for a quick tea and a snack. The Decor is definitely slick, high end and beautiful, but a little out of place. I enjoyed the vibe, but when I received my green tea and muffin, I was a bit put off at the price. $7.67.
I mean, come on people... a Tea and a muffin????
I definitely wouldn't recommend this place unless you like going to a museum, paying too much for a simple tea and snack, and I am usually into High End High Maintenance, but this is where I draw the line. Coffee/Tea and Muffin or coffee shouldn't be more than $5-6 for a specialty item. -

This place was great. I'm only interested in going to businesses that sell beans they roast themselves, so I was really surprised this place was so slick. Smooth wood chairs, a book trading system, single drip coffee and huge windows across from the all at once crosswalk in Steveston give it more style than anything on the boardwalk. The coffee smells delicious and tastes great, and you can tell the staff have a purist's approach to the drink. They even give you mineral water with espresso, which is an often forgotten about touch. There are nice comfy chairs too, and Sheryl's comments about being good for kids seems accurate. I normally can't stand kids in places like this, but strangely enough its so open and minimal the sounds just seems to sink into the walls or something. If you're in Steveston, you should absolutely stop in for an espresso.

HUGE place for a coffee shop. Very relaxing - considering that it's by the pier in Richmond.
We just so happened to land on the day where it was 2-for-1 cappuciunos.
Really, I wish there were more coffee shops like this in Toronto... -

The space is lovely and spacious, and the drinks that I've had have been good, although I find it extremely slow service and the food is only one grade above card board
Hot chocolate though is fabulous as long as you're not in a hurry -

*5 check-ins here* -yeah why isn't my wireless working?
What an outstanding cafe in Steveston!
With a large, bright corner location and high quality, locally roasted product, this cafe is a gold mine in Steveston Village. Espressos and pour overs are what they serve most and the Americano is the best one I've EVER HAD.
The space inside feels as much like a gallery in many ways. The lighting for example is a conversation by itself. A large dramatic chandelier hangs over a long wooden communal table in the front.
The floral arrangements are artfully placed in large vases around the cafe.
There are smaller tables along the large front windows. Tables along the windows are also adorned with contemporary metal wire shades of drop down lighting.
The floor leads your eye to the far wall, and I do mean far! That wall at the back is wood, and all lit up by the large windows. See pict's. You have to see this place.
You could literally do cartwheels down the middle it's so spacious.
Fresh baked pastries from a local bakery, Paninis and a variety of choices for coffee as well as the most opulent looking siphoned coffee set up I've ever seen!
The drinks are divine looking with some of the finest latte art hearts. A mocha drifted past that was dark and chocolatey.
My own beverage was pure excellence, the perfect balance of bold and sweet.
The customer service seems top notch and there are a lot of them working at once.
I can't see this place as anything but a success, blowing the competition out of the water. Sorry local chains, you don't have a chance, Rocanini is here! -

OUTSTANDING - BOLDLY DIFFERENT!
Ahhh Coffee the way it was meant to be?
This place unapologetically takes its time and does it right and does it well!
BRAVO.
What would take this place to the NEXT level, is to bake their own goods. I find their pastry selection lacking. -

Modern coffee shop. Love it because despite its size its never busy so there's tons of seating. Coffee is a bit overpriced.

This is a coffee shop for true coffee enthusiasts. I had the drip coffee which I was advised to try without cream or sugar first. The taste itself was not bitter at all but a natural coffee sweetness that I've never tried before. You can't help but taste their coffee beans to be fresher or more organic than places like Starbucks. I'm not putting down Starbucks as I am a Starbucks fan myself, but if you are ever in Steveston VIllage I highly recommend you drop by here and try for yourself as there are Starbucks everywhere but only one Rocanini.

Spacious interior, high ceilings and white walls. Modern-looking. Friend was raving about the coffee here so we decided to check it out. Ordered the promo of the day: buy any wrap/sandwich or panini and get a free latte. The panini was $7.50 which we did not think was worth it. The panini was ok but for that price, we expected more than one thin slice of turkey. The panini that we had yesterday at Kaisereck on Granville Island was way tastier. The latte was good though. Overall ambience was good, coffee was very good but food was average. Next time, we'll just stick to coffee

Delicious coffee. Absolutely delicious.
It took me a little bit to walk in for coffee. A friend had previously told me the service was really slow and the coffee was really pricey for what she had ordered. I don't know who was serving her or what she had ordered but that wasn't my experience at all.
I was early for a spa appointment and decided a coffee would make the day fantastic. I ordered a caramel latte but they don't have caramel, so I switched to vanilla. Wow. I am a fan of their vanilla lattes. So good. It was just sweet enough to enhance the beautiful coffee taste. It was strong and smooth, no odd bitterness.
The seating didn't look very comfortable to me but there were a few groups of people who looked like they had camped out for the long term so perhaps looks are deceiving.
Definitely recommend. As for me, I want to try something in their bakery case next time. -

This is my new fav coffee shop. Located in Steveston it's got a big, clean, modern and chill atmosphere. Their hot chocolate is so delicious, it tastes like REAL chocolate not that powder/syrup stuff you get at other coffee shops. Their scones are fresh, fluffy and to die for...I can't wait to go back. I just wish they were open later so that I could go hang out with my friends there.

Coffee is great. Nice and Strong. Food is mediocre to passing. Ambiance is the seller, pristine and modern with beautiful tables, and an expansively high ceiling for a cafe, almost like having coffee in a museum. Used to be less hustle and bustle than the other coffee places in Steveston, but fairly busy on a Saturday, since it's right on the corner of Moncton and #1 Rd.

Review from Kat D.
It it surprising how windy Steveston can be and after a walk near the ocean we ducked into post-Industrial with chandeliers Rocanini where my friend made a bee line for the glass case with desserts inside. She asked for the chocolate pecan tart and I tried a croissant. It is true that $3.50 for a plain croissant is pricey. I pay that for an exquisite almond paste version at the farmers market. But this one was impressive. The tart pastry was not tender enough to be cut with a fork so it was eaten with the hands. The coffee is taken seriously here and not in a Starbucks way. Speed and endless options are not the focus. They take their time and don't scrimp on staff so that your coffee gets the attention you always thought it deserved. A cup of drip coffee was made when it was ordered using an interesting orangey colored ceramic filter cone. I ordered a soy hot chocolate to see what they could do to offset the tendency for soy to taste like cardboard. Well done, Rocanini! Pretty foam design and chocolate that tasted more like Belgian brownies than syrup.

Great location. Bright. Excellent drip coffee. Latte art done Baristas. Decent choice of pastries. Would have like to seen something in the lighter fare like biscotti or healthier choices. Reminded me of Copenhagen coffee shops I've been to. Steveston is getting trendy.

Prices are high and their pastry (some of it) is really made by Sweet Spot, which Rocanini simply marks up.

Yes, this place is beautiful. It's a contemporary, stylish anchor in the otherwise quaint, conservative area. However, their much touted drip coffee style means that service is slooooow. I tried one of these coffees, and was not enamored with the bean quality. It was quite acidic, tasting slightly underroasted. The cappuccino I ordered wasn't much better on another day.I don't know where their pastries come from, but they are exorbitantly priced. $3.50 for a croissant, I believe.
