Pretty good stuff for the price. The place is loud so we always order for pickup. RK Crispy and Sexy Roll pretty much rock. I haven't always loved everything I've had, but that goes for every sushi place. For what this place is; a place for cheap sushi, beer and saki, it's pretty darn good. If you are a sushi snob, you are probably better off somewhere else or don't complain about it. For everyone complaining about the ownership change ruining the place, I just don't agree. The food is exactly the same. At least everything I've tried.

I snuck out to try Riki and the service was horrible, borderline not caring at all. I'm kind of glad because it saves me a trip out to North Park anyway.

Been here twice, dinner then lunch. Terrible service and a whole lotta people yapping plus the loud obnoxious pop music. It would've been ok if the volume of everything together didn't cause us to eat twice as fast as we normally did. We were in a hurry and wanted to leave as soon as possible. Too much noise.

The food? Rolls were cheap. Hefty servings.

Great spot to go to for some sushi if you don't want to wait too long at Sushi Deli 2. You're right down the street from Sushi Deli 2. They have some pretty good sushi.

    Service:
Great staff. They are very accomodating. They forgot to make a roll for us and we called them out on it. They were about to make it right then and there, but we were full and they just took it off our bill. They also hooked us up with a roll of sushi that they made extra while waiting for a table.

    Food:
Not a bad place for some relatively cheap sushi and its pretty tastey too.

    Drinks:
Asahi + sake = SAKE BOMB! Get yours!

    Overall:
This is definitely a good place for some sushi at reasonable prices. If you find a long line at Sushi Deli 2, just go down the street to this place. About the same quality and prices. Not a bad option IMO.

This place is amazing!!!  I can't believe I just tried it out.  SUPER GOOD SUSHI but really good.
I could not believe the price, we were 5 and ordered 9 rolls (and they are big) ended up paying $70.00 tip included

Change in staff about a year ago made this place a bit cornier and not quite as tasty.  The menu that I saw had pictures and names but no descriptions of what the sushi was composed of. The pens had cheap little flowers attached. Overall, it has just kind of become nonsense.

Yeah, this place is good for decent cheap sushi.  I've been here twice.  Once was take out and the other I dined in.  It's very small on the inside so you might want to expect a little wait on the weekends.  The wait might not be worth it, though.  It just depends.  I mean, this isn't extreme sushi goodness.  It's middle of the road.  Your typical neighborhood reliable sushi place.  If you live near here, you will be happy for its existence.  If you don't, you probably won't search it out.

I went here a couple months ago and thought it was great. The quality of the food was good and the service was friendly. I definitely thought they had a leg up on next door neighbor Sushi Deli.

*** ALL THIS CHANGED AS OF APRIL 14, 2012 ***

The place was on and popping upon arriving. I had to park across the street near the supermarket since there was no parking in their lot.

We arrived at 6pm and the place was packed and lucky for us there was NO LINE. Yes, place was busy and there was no line. I had a party of 2 and there was a table available that sat 4. We were asked to wait since we did not have 4 people. after 10 minutes a party of 4 showed up and they gave away the spot and we were still forced to wait. At this point I was furious. I walked in there, raised my voice and told everyone what a rude place this was. You just don't do that especially since, keep in mind, there was no wait to be seated.

ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Will not go back. Such a shame. :o/

Excellent option if Sushi Deli is too busy.  Very comparable prices, quality, specials (drink special, large beer/sake $5.25), and rolls.  Altho much less variety than SD.  I can't remember the name of the roll, but anything that has the smoked onions is a must try.  It will become one of those rolls you crave!  Other than that, just like Sushi Deli, steer clear of sashimi and stick with the rolls.

Service is usually pretty fast and polite.

I enjoy going here for a laid back lunch or dinner with friends and have also gotten take out. The rolls I've had are pretty good. My favorite so far has to be the Sexy Roll. (description of roll is on the other side of the paper order menu you give back to the server) I like it better than Sushi Deli a block up the street. They also have a decent drink special that includes a large beer and a large sake. (warm saki only... chilled sake is not an option) I have 2 complaints...

    1. Only a handful of the rolls have descriptions of what makes up the roll. I base my ordering decision on what's actually in/on the roll. So I'm extremely hesitant to order something blindly.

    2. A good majority of the rolls are spicy. Some people may look at that as a positive. I'm not really a fan of spicy food though. Spicy tuna seems to be a staple in many of their rolls. (it's also in the Sexy Roll)

All in all... not a bad little place.

Holy Cow the food service here is at a snail pace. If you order anything that needs to be cooked in the kitchen and not made by the sushi chefs bee prepared to wait upwards of 30 min.

The food quality us around a 3 as well. I think I would much prefer sushi deli since its only a block up and it's a much better run place.

Hands down one of the best if not the bet sushi spot in San Diego.  The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's a small place, nothing fancy (no bells & whistles) & it gets very crowded at times.

The rolls however are delicious. My favorites are the Sexy Roll and the Protein Roll.

Peter is a fabulous & fun sushi chef! Love this place!

Also even on the busiest nights Friday & Saturdays takeout is ready in 15-20 minutes for pickup!

2.5 for the sushi. .5 star for the service.
I want to like this place. My boyfriend and I will wander over here when Sushi Deli is too busy. The sushi is OK, they use K-rab, which I still don't understand. It must be a San Diego thing. Most of their rolls have an over abundance of some kind of sweet sauce on or in them, which isn't a bad thing, but when it over powers the flavor of the fish, it can be like sucking on a fish lollipop. The wasabi reminds me of if I had sushi on an airplane. Bland and probably comes from a tube.  Meh. Its pretty much flavorless, and they get pissy when you ask them for extra. Charge me for it, or get better wasabi so I don't have to use a pound of it to get that wasabi flavor!
What kills this place is the service. I don't think the waitress ever made eye contact with either myself or my boyfriend. She couldn't have been bothered. I don't know if she was having a bad day, or got called in to work on her day off, but she ruined our meal.
I went in for a bite last Sunday, and was pretty much rushed the whole meal. We were rushed to order, plates were pretty much thrown on our table, no check backs to see if everything was OK (it wasn't we needed wasabi, twice) I had to ask them to clear empty plates to make room for new ones, (we literally had plates stacked up on top of each other on our small 2-top table) and every time I went to reach for the soy sauce, someone was trying to clear it from the table as if they were starting their closing side work early. LOOK! You let me sit down. If you were about to close (which they were not, it was 7:30) you should have said something at the beginning of the meal, "the kitchen is closing early tonight, please make your selections promptly" or something along those lines.
So, to top it all off, the check was dropped, I promptly put my credit card down just to get the cuss outta there. I then noticed that the guy at the front who apparently handled all monetary transactions had ran my card, and my tab and card were sitting at the counter,  but the waitress was nowhere to be found. Normally this wouldn't been an issue, but after being rushed from the moment we walked in the door, I just wanted to leave, and I was made to wait.  After looking around I noticed the waitress was texting, between locking the door, and chit chatting with her friends who were sitting outside. Finally, after waiting close to ten minutes, our tab was brought to by the waitress who placed it on our table with her back to us, (which is pretty hard to do). It was OK to rush me through the meal, but once you had my money, time was no issue. Call me old fashioned, but I am a firm believer in customer service.
Shame on me for not just leaving in the beginning, and wasting my hard earned money, and shame on you for treating customers like crap. BOO!!!

If you're looking for a cheaper, fast and yummy sushi place then RK Sushi is the place to go!! We have tried typical rolls such as the Philadelphia Roll, Spicy Scallop and Tuna Rolls as well as their more specialized rolls such as the Firecracker Roll and the Caterpillar Roll that are all fantastic and delicious. I would recommend RK Sushi over their competitor next door as the wait is not as long and the sushi is alot better here. I have loved their sushi every time I have gone and have not had any issues with their service. Definitely a good, little sushi spot to try!!

Cheap rolls. House salad dressing is really yummy. Large beer and large sake for $5.25! (I personally don't like sake, so the hubs takes my sake and I drink some of his beer. It all works out.)
Having been there several times now, I can tell you that the more "expensive" rolls are not really worth the expense. We've tried several of the $8+ rolls but nothing is really that impressive. I've decided to stick to the 3/4/5 dollar section. And at that price, you can always afford to go out for sushi!!!
No kids menu, but we get the yakisoba noodles for our 2 y.o. or the shrimp tempura. They have high chairs but no booster seats.
Gets crowded on weekend evenings - expect a wait.

The 3 times I went to this restaurant I had good food and good service. Last Sunday I went with my brother and waited a long time for the server to come, when she finally comes she says if we could move to a different table that is by the sun and I asked her if the table where we were sitting on was reserved and she said no. She kept insisting and the way she was treating us was pretty rude and with an attitude  We ended up not eating there because of the TERRIBLE SERVICE.

Well not as cheap as sushi deli and I def. stumbled in like everyone else 'because sushi deli was closed'

Quality of crab and rice seemed much better, some rolls were good, others were put together really awkwardly.

I'd maybe stop by again if it's an emergency.

I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it during my trip in San Diego. I ordered several items from their menu which I noticed were pretty cheap. There were several rolls under each category of $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8 and so on. I don't think the sushi was that fresh. They weren't that tasty. But for the price of the rolls, I didn't expect much. Won't be coming back.

This place used to be great. They had affordable, delicious sushi and a pleasant ambiance. Now, everything has gone downhill. The sushi tastes fishy (in a bad way) like they got the fish last week. Their seaweed salad is dried out and fairly flavorless. When it's someone's birthday they bust out the rave music, turn off the lights, and it's almost violating when you're trying to enjoy a meal. I felt like I needed to throw on some '90s-era Kikwear pants, stick a pacifier in my mouth, and go around trading "candy" with everyone. Even without the PLUR moment, I believe they have 112/Blackstreet/Boyz II Men Pandora blasting in the dining room. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to eat with an extra loud soundtrack, it'd better be Mariah Carey Pandora, thankyouverymuch.

All in all, go to Riki Sushi on 30th.

But I do highly recommend for those looking for commercial quality sushi!

I think they are so much better than any of the moderate sushi restaurants in San Diego !

It is really cheap but unlike other cheap & affordable sushi bars you get more than what you pay for and that is hard to come by!!!

Well, one thing is for sure - RK Sushi is the place to go for great affordable sushi and drinks! Sake and Sapporo special for only $5? Can't beat it with a baseball bat.

The rolls here are very good and I like the fact that I get to see them made in front of me at the bar. The service is mediocre, but it's easy to overlook for such yummy sushi. This is definitely a place that I keep in my radar whenever I decide to go out to eat and it's definitely the first sushi spot that I think of.  No sushi place I've ever been to gives me as much bang for my buck.

BOTTOM LINE -  if you want good sushi without paying an arm and a leg like at Ono or RA, then make this your go to place! (btw - GREAT Miso too:))

I'm a fan of RK. It is a great place to go if you don't want to wait in the long lines for Sushi Deli. If you are looking for cheap large beer and sake and some more western freindly sushi, go here. If you are looking for great fresh fish and more traditional style sushi, this isn't the place for you. I think the put spicy mayo on most of the rolls and half of them come deep fried. I do love the sexy roll and teh rk crispy roll. Plus it is close to my house so I frequent here a lot.

Came here for dinner after seeing the long line at Sushi Deli. Got in and was seated immediately even though it was 7 on a Saturday night. Didn't love the fact that you have no idea what half the sushi rolls are---only some of them are listed on the paper that explains what they are made of.

I tried a Washington roll (too spicy), Rainbow roll (tasty, normal) and Crunchy shrimp (good). Overall, it was relatively cheap (they have rolls for $4-9, most are $6-7, and the rolls are good.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for something like Sushi Deli without the line. However, I would not say it is AMAZING sushi.

I was planning on going to Sushi Deli with some friends except they informed me that they have been converted into RK Sushi go-ers so I got pulled into going here.

Great place! It's a cute, small place so we had to wait a little bit for our party of 5 to get seated. The quality of sushi is good and they have a large selection.

Service was pretty good. The sushi chefs were entertaining. They kept accidentally bringing us rolls we already got (or maybe they were some other tables?), though, which kind of made me wonder if this was a normal thing.

Parking lot is really small (but there IS a lot). There is also street parking so you don't have to search that hard.

I was heading to Sushi Deli when I saw the line and no parking...but there was parking near RK CafeSushi!!!!!! This was my first time here and now I'm wondering what took me so long to try this restaurant.

Long story short, the quality is a lot better than Sushi Deli the prices are comparable (if not better, since the quality is better) and the service is nice, faster, and we got seated in half the time!

    Suggestions: the Pink Roll

con: a little small, but we were seated right away.. i looked around and they gladly accommodate groups..regardless of the small space.

I guess you could say I'm fairly new to San Diego, however if it is one thing I know its my sushi. RK has the best rolls I've had in downtown with the best prices I've seen yet here. My cousin and I stumbled upon this place one night looking for food, and trying to hit up Sushi Deli. They were closing, and RK was open an hour longer. Since then, it's the only place we go and take friends to.

I'm going to have to give them five stars!! It seems they've recently remodeled the restaurant and it looks GREATT!!!!!

I've been here once in the past and wasn't a fan because it was pretty overpriced and the only reason I decided to come in the first place was because Sushi Deli was closed for lunch (booo!). Well that happened again and I really wanted sushi so my friend and I decided we would go there anyway. I wasn't looking forward to overpriced sushi since I wanted Sushi Deli, but I was really craving it.

As soon as I opened the menu I noticed they have made drastic changes. They're the new Sushi Deli 4! $1 Miso, and $3 $4 $5 $6 yummy rolls. In my opinion they're almost better. They're inexpensive and the rolls don't fall apart when you try to pick them up.

I would definitely make the walk over here if you happen to go to Sushi Deli when they're closed, or even if they're open! I'm sure you'll like it :)

SIDE NOTE: If you're not easily embarrassed, then this is a great place to eat at before going out. They turn the music up super loud, turn the lights off, and sing happy birthday to a japanese remix I believe. It's hilarious!

NOTE: I was preparing to write this review before knowing that management had changed hands. Trying to keep it unbiased and based just on this last experience.

The first 10 minutes in this place were so bad that i started keeping notes on my phone so i wouldn't miss any of these almost-comical occurrences.  I have been to RK before a few times and definitely thought something was amiss with the service this time...

I will say that as i walked in i noticed that there was more space between tables - LOVE. It was so crowded last time i was here that felt a bit claustrophobic. Really enjoyed the open space. That's where the good stuff ends...

walked in and wasn't sure if we should seat ourselves or wait, because there was NO ONE in sight to seat us, but there was a hostess podium. We waited and someone appeared and quietly and vaguely sent us in the direction of a table. This person then disappeared in front of my very eyes as we were sitting. I couldn't tell you if it was a man or woman. I laughed and made some ninja-waiter comments and waited for someone to reappear. Food came out behind us. Food came out next to us. A woman stood next to us sweeping the floor, but no one came to take an order. A few minutes later a server appeared to take our drink order. We ordered 2 waters and 1 coke. Almost 7 minutes later waters came out. No cokes. They were brought out by someone new, not the person who took the water orders. Didn't think anything of it.

This second person took our food orders. I was trying to ask about some dishes on the menu (There were no descriptions on the menu and i was looking for a salad with cucumbers and something with noodles). I had to resort to Google to look up items on the menu. I don't mind that, it was an opportunity to learn new words for food i like, but it was a bit embarrassing and very time consuming. Just tell me which dish is the noodle dish.

So it was warm out and we were thirsty. Those waters didn't last long (spoiler alert: WE WERE NEVER GIVEN MORE WATER NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE ASKED). My coke eventually came out after i asked two new people for it. Mind you we have been here almost 20 minutes now and have not had food and have drank our water rations. I was getting cranky.

We were asked by 2 different kids (they were kids, so young) if our order had been taken yet, and everyone seemed confused about what their job was. This woman was still sweeping next to us.

My cucumber salad came out with my buddy's miso. I was very happy about this - it was intended as a starter and they served it with the soup and so many places can't seem to coordinate that so i was stoked. And the salad was great. Pickled cucumbers. Yum! Lots of juice on it. Which the newest server must not have been aware of, because when he cleared my plate he dumped pickle juice all over our table, on the floor (which the woman just finished sweeping) and on my sandaled feet. And he looked down. And looked at me. And then at the table and the floor. And then he walked away. I did not see him again on this visit.

So i have pickle juice in my sandal. And its on the table. So i use the one napkin i was given to clean that up. I was at this point still waiting for the server to come back with some napkins and a mop. No luck.

The food finally comes out. My buddy got sushi and i had that noodle dish and damnit now i feel ignorant because i still can't remember what the word was.

The sushi was ok. The tuna was a bit grayish but my buddy didn't notice and i wasn't going to point it out because i tried it and it tasted fine. Not the high quality i look for in sushi though.

My noodle dish kinda sucked. It was very peppery but had no other flavor at all. Unfortunately i don't know what it was supposed to taste like because i've never tried it before. It could just be that i didn't like what i ordered, which happens. So i 'm not counting that against them.

At this point the sweeping woman noticed the pickle juice on the floor next to my table. And she gave me the dirtiest fucking look you've ever seen, like i waited there until i saw she was done sweeping and then deliberately made a mess in that spot. I was looking for the server that spilled it at this point because i was not above pointing at him and shouting "HE DID IT! And he didn't clean it up!" so that she would stop looking at me like that.

I heard a strange noise across the table and looked to see that my buddy had, in thirst driven desperation, stolen the little bit of ice left in my glass and was trying to mash the bits into some drinkable water. It was time to go. A new stranger brought the check and i dashed for the register. Fortunately we only had to wait a minute or two for someone to help with that part.

This was my buddy's favorite sushi spot. He can go back if he wants. I will never return.

    Sweet little sushi shack!

Went there on a date and we had no problem ordering practically one of everything! The prices are ReDonkulous! (That's a great thing!)
The place is fairly small, clean and a kind of loud.
Not a good place for kids or large groups.

The sashimi was fresh and they offered a wide range of fish. Their rolls are creative and delish!

To top it off their staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They will also embarrass you and your friends on your birthday- Must see!

RK Sushi is hands down my favorite sushi joint near my house! I don't know what place some of these people go to when they say that the service at RK is horrible. Every time I have gone I have gotten excellent service, they even remember my name! People want to bitch about the new management, wah wah wah, if you don't like this place then don't come here, problem solved!! My boyfriend and I come here at least every two weeks. They have remodeled and I must say that it now has more room and you don't feel so crowded and cramped. They also play good music and it's not too loud.

Rk is reasonably priced with rolls ranging from $3 - $10 they also have drink specials where if you buy a large beer you get free sake to go along with it all for just $5.25! My favorite rolls are the Snow Ball, Firecracker, RK Crispy, Trust Me, Playboy, Sexy, and the El Fuego roll.

Overall this place is great! The sushi is good for the price and the service is excellent! The only complaint I have is parking, but we get lucky with that every now and then. Oh and some douche that was at the sushi bar a couple nights ago with his girlfriend/date wouldn't move down ONE seat when asked by the staff so me and the man and his friend could sit at the sushi bar. She was cool with moving down but he wanted to be an ass and "sit in the middle" so we had to wait longer for a table. I hope someone does that to you one day when you are hungry, asshole!

Besides that, I love this place and I will continue to come until the end. :)

Love this sushi joint. Cheap, fun place to go for good quality sushi. For the longest time, I had been going to Sushi Deli- but I ALWAYS had such a hard time getting a table at Sushi Deli because the lines were ridiculous. I also had a bad experience with takeout from Sushi Deli, once, and really wanted to try somewhere new.. RK Sushi is literally right down the block, and I never have trouble getting a seat. I always get the Albacore Special Roll (combo roll with seared tuna, crunchy shrimp, avoc, cuc, crab, crunchies) and am NEVER disappointed! The service is upbeat and friendly- and they have great drink specials! ($5 large sake and beer). I love their seaweed salad, and their combo rolls are giant and cheap. My only complaint is that it's pretty loud and very close quarters.. So, not exactly the best romantic date spot.. But, for fun-loud-casual-sushi date, it's perfect!
