I didn't golf here, nor did I dine, but it's a fine place to drink at!

They got a nice patio space overlooking the golf course with heat patio and a slight over hang that covers up some of tables.  The view is pretty good out there and it's quiet compared to most patios.  The Clubhouse is quite huge and has large floor to ceiling windows over looking the golf course so you won't miss out too much if you're here on a raining day.  I like how they can divide the room so it doesn't look so empty inside and project old black and white movies on that divider.

Why I also enjoyed coming here for beers?  They got quite a few craft beers here.  I've been going through a sampling of them.  Some pretty good ones, some not so goo, and some really awesome ones!

The server we had was really funny and made our time very enjoyable.  I'll love to come back here more often for lunch beers, but honestly it's a better out of the way for me :(

I used to golf often and have always found food at some of the clubhouses to be quite good. Breakfast at the old West Van driving range was amazing. When Riverway's clubhouse was finally opened, it was definitely on my hit list of places to visit.

The clubhouse itself is gorgeous. High ceilings, big open eating area, clean with a few tvs hanging, not much to complain about there. It is as I would have expected of a new clubhouse.

The food - I've been here twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast and I would have to say that lunch was a little better.

Breakfast - ordered the Denver omelette at $11.50 and for the price, wasn't as big as I expected. It wasn't small but at that price, I expected a little more. Came with toast and potatoes but they only had multi-grain bread. No selection means I have to dock a half star. Ordered a coffee at $2.50 and now the price is adding up. Our table also tried the Riverway - two eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon or ham, pretty standard fare. However, sausage is not an option here. Dock another star. Juice, we were told, is refillable for free.

Lunch - had the sirloin burger at $12.50 and it came with a mixture of yam and regular fries. Good idea but the yam fries were not anything amazing. No chipotle mayo offered until asked meant another half star docked. Burger was ok. It had some fancy greens in there and they used a ciabatta bun but I found the bun didn't go great with the meat. Personally, found the burger a little too fancy looking. After a round of golf with my buddies, I just want a good, solid, big juicy burger to wolf down. Our table also ordered the mahi mahi and the lobster fettucine sensation and I was told those dishes were very good.

Service for both meals was great. No complaints there. Prices, in my opinion, are a little high for breakfast. At those prices, coffee/juice should be included. Parking was plentiful but that might change during golf's busy season.

One last thing I must leave a review for is their washroom (men's of course). I was quite impressed with the urinals. Yes, the urinals. When you first stand in front of it, it flushes and when you walk away, flushes again. It is set to give you a clean bowl before you start. NICE!!! Nothing worse than walking up to an urinal and finding the previous person's leftovers floating there. Eck!!

Burnaby has two municipal golf courses.  This is the nicer of the two.  They call it a links style course but I don't really think it is a true links course, but I digress.

It is actually one of the toughest muni courses in the lower mainland, if they let the tall grass and fescue grow on the multiple high mounds that line some of the fairways.  Hit a shot into those mounds expect to take a penalty stroke.

Went here for a work lunch. Not sure what the buffet cost, but most other things looked reasonably priced. I got the pulled pork sandwich. This was the first time I'd had it served without the au jus; still delicious. The fries it came with were a mix of potato and yam fries.

The server seemed nice, but as soon as the bill was paid, he stopped refilling our waters and took away any leftovers without asking. I could have stopped him, though it would have been nice to ask if we were done first. I'd understand if the place were packed, but it definitely wasn't.

It has a lodge-y atmosphere; exposed concrete, high roof and lots of wood. Strange to see plywood on the ceiling; I guess that's the look they were going for.

    I'd come back again, sure.

We booked our office Christmas party here. They stayed open through the supper hour for us, and it was really cool to have the whole place to ourselves!
We ordered an ongoing parade of appies and they were yummy. The service was great, and the food was tasty and plentiful for the kind of event we were having.
If I ordered the nachos as a share plate with a group, I wouldn't have been happy with the quantity.
The inside of the restaurant is so beautiful, really nicely done, overlooking the golf course.
I don't know about the golf side of things, but I am going to make this place a more frequent lunch destination - great spot for lunch meetings.

Was here for a sunset round over the weekend...turns out you that twilight starts at 2.30PM which is pretty solid during the "winter" months.

We started at 5pm, a full 2.5 hours of sunlight  it was $17 for the round and $15 for the cart (shared between two people).       Ended up playing 10 holes as there was no wait....

The course was muddy, not fantastic conditions, but it was decently cared for and we even had gas-powered carts which was a bit of a novelty.  Otherwise, lots of long holes to pull out your big boy driver and some water hazards to keep it interesting.

Next time I'd start earlier and maybe on a slightly sunnier day...otherwise, it's a fun course at the right price...why not?  I'll update this when I get to play the full back 9.

Went for a twilight - a 5:40 tee time and we were able to get through 12 holes by 9:30. Horrible pace of play because a) the Riverway guys stack the groups too close, and b) this is related to the first - most everyone walks - HELLO! If you have walking hacks space it out a bit more.

But the city of Burnaby cares about how much it can squeeze out of everyone. It was $27 which is fair if you're playing 18.

The course itself is a typical public, run of the mill muni. Lots of hills, wide fairways, and ALOT of bunkers.

Tips to the wise - no water fountains on the course - just at the clubhouse. Also for twilights there is no drink cart (?!?) ... strange. You have a bunch of golfers on a course on warm summer nights sitting around with horrible pace of play. Riverway - space the groups out a little more (so less groups out) but send the drink cart out and you'll come out ahead.

There are too many other courses around that I don't need to deal with the Riverway riff raff ever again.

With $11.50 nachos that resemble a work of art more than a huge pile of goodness, a post-slowpitch hangout this place isn't. They promise the nachos are good for two but umm that can ONLY be true if you're two itty bitty full people! Did I mention the 1516 beer on draft for $5 which seems more than out of place beside the gorgeous view, white linen napkins and fancy water glasses. And what's with the 5 tv's on constant PowerPoint scenic views cycle?
