Review from Coy W.
I really wish I had not seen this place from man vs food! However I did and the journey begun! After some planning my friend and I agreed to head to Riverstone after Boxing Day as that is insane in Canada.
If it weren't for a GPS I would not have found this place. It's in the middle of a suburb off the water. When we arrived we were sat in a cold room and I'm not sure why. I did not realize until after our meal that the rest of the place had heat minus the cold room!
Anyways back to Riverstone Grill. We came here for the bone in the stone. It's a ribeye steak that is 32-60oz that sits on top of 10oz of fries and another 10 oz of sweet potato fries covered in blue cheese and onion strings. I'm pretty sure my heart missed a few beats when I read it and that the time to cut into it was so close.
We ordered it medium rare and was charged a $5 butchery fee which I found annoying since it wasn't on the online menu. I mean include it in the menu price or have a note with it on the menu! I found that extremely annoying but since we drove from Canada to here to try it we weren't going to not order it.
When it came by it finally hit how massive this thing was. I had eaten a 34 oz steak earlier in the summer but this just crushed that and had sides with it!
The ribeye is surprisingly decent quality. I thought it was going to be a massive mound of food. The onion straws were good, the blue cheese was top notch. For some reason in Canada many blue cheeses I've had are sour. That's not the case with the blue cheese here and tasted really good. The fries and sweet potato fries were also good. It took 2 of us to demolish the meal and wings and that was all the food I would eat for the next 30 hours! I'd definitely come back to try a few other items here as I saw what I believed to be a smoker which means more delicious animals. -

Great location on Grant Island. Really nice interior layout. The servers were quite friendly and on point.
As for the food, I was underwhelmed. The pulled pork was dry, the chicken was dry and the smoke flavor was a bit funky, the frys were "fresh" like In and Out Burger's "fresh" frys. In other words, the frys were blah. The large bone in rib steak was not tender nor flavorful and medium well means medium rare apparently. The focaccia bread was very good as was the house wines sold at a reasonable price. The deserts looked huge from a far but we passed.
Not in a hurry to rush back. -

What a great place! I wish I found out about Riverstone Grill earlier. So many times I had to drive off the Island for a good dinner. Now I bring my girlfriends here for their birthdays! We can have a nice meal with a glass of wine and I can treat my friends without putting a dent in my budget.
I like the atmosphere of the restaurant. It has a unique combination of class and friendliness. You can come in a cocktail dress for a romantic date but you will feel just as comfortable dressed casually. Does this make sense?
As for the food... The food is awesome! Their meats are especially worth mentioning. Black and Blue steak is one of my favorites. Juicy meet and blue cheese in one dish? Sounds great to me! Even though I'm not a big fan of messy barbecue ribs, I make an exception here. They are really good! I think they won some national award. Next time I come I have to try their Bone in the Stone. I saw it on TV yesterday. It has always looked a little too big for me, but now I have to try this TV star. In general, as a meat lover I can tell when a restaurant is not settling for cheaper meats. The taste makes a difference.
Their fish is good too. If you feel like having a healthy meal, ask your waitress. They have many fish dishes, which will leave you feeling satisfied, but not guilty.
If you like pasta, I would definitely try their Gorgonzola steak pasta. You will love it! So creamy and rich. My friend gets it every time we come and refuses to try anything else. She calls me up for our "Gorgonzola dates" at Riverstone.
The staff is very nice and friendly. The last time we were at the restaurant the owner came to our table. That was a nice touch to our pleasant dinner.
I can keep on writing... such a great experience every time!
Quick tips:
~ If you are not a sushi fan, make sure to order any other fish dish besides Ahi Tuna. I love it, but it's raw fish served with wasabi and ginger.
~ If you come with a big group, order different things. This way you can share experiences and see what other dish you want to try next time (this is how I discovered the ribs).
~ If you are not ready to go home after a nice dinner in the relaxing dining area, have a cocktail in the bar part of the restaurant. The crowd is more respectable than a in regular bar. You will have a good time.
~There are several ways to get to Riverstone Grill. If you are visiting the area, make sure to take East River Road. It's such a scenic drive along the river with the bridge over it. -

Being the carnivore and TV foodie that I am, I decided to follow in Adam Richmans' footsteps and try the bone in the stone while passing through on my way to Canada. I'm glad I brought my appetite from driving all day since the minimum order is 32oz and goes all the way up to 60 and possibly beyond if you desire. This little spot was very busy when we arrived, luckily we called ahead. We were informed they don't take reservations, but when we told them we were coming here special after an 8 hour drive they made sure a table was ready, excellent service. The servers were attentive and gave us all the insides and outs of the specials and even offered wine tasting to which we declined. I didn't really need the info, I knew what I had come for. My half a cow please.. Med-rare, covered in everything and the kitchen sink. Boy did I get just that. The cook delivered it himself also adding "I want to commend you for ordering it medium rare, it's the only and best way to enjoy a steak", He shook my hand and gave me my knife and fork to begin eating. But before I could do that, I needed to reflect upon the table the absolutely huge piece of steak I was about to try eating. and boy.. was it HUGE. It actually made the table lean a little when it was set down. A good 1 1/2 inches thick and as big as a baseball mit, covered in onion straws and bluecheeze, sitting on top of a bunch of fries. Suffice to say all eyes were on me when I started eating. Flavor was good and everything came together quite well. The sauce added a good kick along with the steak itself. I actually ordered some more to go with it. I took pictures of the beast, but unfortunately they do not do it justice. I managed to take down half of it before calling it quits. I was amazed even that happened. I wouldn't mind coming back here to try some of their other offerings, there just isn't a whole lot of time to do so.

Very disappointed. We stopped in (only because Man vs Food was there) and had very high hopes for a nice steak....
Started out waiting 25 min for any service and actually eventually had to ask the hostess if anyone knew we were there.
My Wife and I had a beer which was flat and somehow had a mildew taste. We ordered the calamari and it came out clumped together, mushy, undercooked and flavorless. We sent it back and opted for the Ahi Tuna instead which by itself was flavorless, in no way fresh and obviously frozen then thawed but with the mix of cabbage and wasabi provided, it was good.
Then came the entrees. My Daughter's meal consisted of greasy chicken wings and limp, old and cold fries. I had the bone in ribeye which for the price was the most disappointing steak I have ever had. The cut was very fatty, greasy and under seasoned. The sweet potato fries (for $1.50 more) were cooked the same way as the nasty fries my Daughter had but actually tasted ok unlike hers. The broccoli was the best thing on my plate, it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. My Wife had the Spinach artichoke stuffed chicken which to me, was WAY overloaded with peppercorn ranch but she said it was ok. Finally came desert, we ordered my daughter the brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The brownie tasted exactly like the flavor you get when you burn a marshmallow to pure black charcoal.
We are extremely disappointed when the $100 bill came out. On the way back to Ft Drum, we stopped at Cracker Barrel and had the best meal we have had in a while for $30..... -

The place has promise. Went once, will go back some day. I had the bone in steak. Came well done for medium rare. My wife had some fish dish that wasn't thoroughly cooked and we just kind of abandoned it. Waiter was hard to find and kinda dopey. Said it was his first day.
On the surprise side, great wines by the glass. The ahi tuna that I thought for sure couldn't be good (too far from the ocean) was absolutely excellent. My Wife's fish inspite of being partially raw was actually quite fresh.
Atmosphere was subdued. You could kinda get away with any kind of mood you wanted to create here.
To get food as ordered and get good service I would have to work too hard. This place warrants a three until they tighten up some processes. -

Went here because it was on Man Vs. Food. We shared the Bone in the Stone between two people. The steak is cooked fairly well and we asked for the cheese sauce and crumbled blue cheese on the side and we are glad we did!
The amount of fries and fried onions served is insanely huge.
The steak had alot of fat in it which we cut out from our food and probably reduces the amount of the steak by 20%.
Overall, not a bad experience and the servers are very friendly. We ordered a bottle of their house wine which was actually pretty good. -

I was on a mini vaca up in Buffalo and had to try the "Man vs. Food" famous "Bone in the Stone". For starters, I ordered the calmari as an ap. The lightly crusted chunks of delectable bites were impressively silky and teeth sinking soft morsals of tasty sea creatures! Mmm mmm good! The main event "Bone in the Stone" was crispy and deliciously tasty on all
Its edges! The red center was a bit of a disappointment due to the toughness of the meat. It was a nastalgic experience more than it was a truly 5 star piece o' rib eye. The staff were truly friendly and a smiley bunch. The owner came to my table to ask how everything was. I thought this was his efforts to seach for clues on what he could due more to please his customers. This is a plus and shows that he really cares how his business is run. I like that. I cant be judgemental on the entire menu, but know that if the staff hold their professionalism, this fairly new restaurant is on its way to a 5 star league of its own. The appearance of the place was very clean and gave me a warm friendly feeling. I hope this place is here to stay... -

Good seafood in buffalo is sure hard to find. Tucked away on Grand Island is where you can get one of the best that WNY has to offer. Arrived at 6pm, and shocked that there was no one in the dining room, however it started filling up soon after we came.
We were served some focaccia bread and oil. The bread was slightly warmed and quite tasty, and I was impressed that it was homemade(Had to ask, only used in the items on the lunch menus). We had the seared ahi tuna for starters. It was decent, and enjoyed the pickled ginger on the side.
Onto the mains, I went with Grouper stuffed with crab, snow peas and sweet potato fries. My lady had a special that was fish along with the same peas and rice. Mine was a great overall meal, however, I felt the fries slightly brought down the 'fine dining' atmosphere the meal had. I was impressed with the prices. Thankfully located in GI, if it was in the nearby Amherst, prices would be at least $5 more.
Christine was our waitress, and she was a sweetheart, who was very attentive to us and funny. Then the bill came. Got to love those specials that never post the prices anywhere. Definitely sticker shocked! Her special was several dollars more, and I believed mine was better tasting and a great value(tons of food). However, if I'm in the seafood state of mine (which I often am) I will be returning to the Riverstone. -

This could be the best restaurant on Grand Island. The ribeye steak I had was very good and well prepared. My wife's salmon was undercooked and just OK. It was a Friday night around 8:00 PM and they were already out of baked potatoes. The bar area was packed with locals who were having a great (loud) time. The dining room had a distinct odor when you first entered and our waitress was missing in action for long periods. The Riverstone Grill has lots of potential, it will likely get better. We wanted to really like it, but it just wasn't happening for us this time.
