They got fried seafood, fried chicken, pretty good Greek style pizza, steak tips*** and good subs.
Best items on the menu
1.Cheeseburger sub (ive had a million and riversides is the best)
2. Steak tips
3. fried calamari -

I really dislike when a place does some things realllyyy well. And then some things are horrible.
This is a shining example of that. I went here because its quick and I like the pizza and jalepeno poppers. I order the poppers and go out on a limb and try their meatball sub.
Worst. Meatball. Sub. Ever.
I get back and boyfriend and I eat the poppers first. I give him half his hero and he makes a face. "I dont like it" he plainly states. I figure it cant be that bad. But it can.
Does Spam make meatballs? If so, I think they may use them here.
The thing that gets me most mad here is that Riverside doesn't need to have a shitty meatball sub on their menu. Everything else is so good, that they just shouldn't waste menu space putting something on that they simply shouldn't offer if they are going to do it so half assed. I couldn't take more than two bites before I canned it.

Come for Pizza, and Apps, stay away from anything not requiring pizza oven or fryer. -

pretty simple stuff...
good steak tips, cheap drinks, good place to watch a game... not many places in or around Central Sq can claim all 3... -

Ordered a large pizza and waited at the bar with a beer. It came out in good time and the bartender was friendly enough. A little too bright in the barroom for my liking. Not exactly cozy. Pizza was a solid 6 out of 10. I'm not a huge fan of Greek pizza to begin with but wanted to try out a neighborhood joint. Might go back but most likely only because there aren't a ton of options in walking distance.

A great place to pick up a quick and cheap week night dinner as a fast food alternative. I'm not sure if eating here is healthier than McDonalds, but you sure get better food!
I've been here so many time and never tried their pizza, so I cannot comment on that. My favorite was fish and chips! Comes with my kind of tartar sauce. Crab sandwich was pretty good, but really, all their sandwiches are pretty nice.
Atmosphere here is......don't go here if you are concerned with atmosphere. Remember, a quick and cheap greasy dinner. -

I don't know why this place doesn't have 5 stars. It is exactly what it is, no frills awesome greasy pizza on the cheap.
The pizza is greekish style, so a nice thick crispy crust, seasoned and oily. Medium thickness pizza, great tasting sauce, and generous amounts of WHOLE mozz. It ends up wonderfully cheesy, greasy, and crispy all at once. IT'S A PARTY IN MY MOUTH.
GF and I got a large cheesy pizza and a large veggie sub with everything last week, for $16. Great deal for a locally owned joint. The pizza was perfect, and sub was great too.
The establishment itself has two sides, a bar, and a restaurant. the bar smells like a porta potty, sort of. I don't know how to describe it, but it isn't a bad smell. The restaurant smells like a bowladrome and filled with regulars and cops. I saw three cops when we were in there munching on various fried goods from the menu. They looked happy! AMAZING.
The service is awesome, very friendly, very kind, and they make sure you get your order how you want it. The sub was great, the pizza was great, and it's filled with regulars. I couldn't ask for more.
I don't know why this would not get 5 stars. It's cheap and it's good, the service is good too. It's not gourmet pizza, nor should anyone step into a place like this and expect it. Next time you are in the mood to down 4 slices of greasy pizza, come here. -

I've eaten here more times than I'd like to admit, but I plead having lived right next door.
The clientele usually includes some cops, some children wearing their Sunday dresses on a Wednesday at 11pm, some old dudes playing Keno, and other neighborhood denizens hanging out in the salmon-colored plastic booths.
The chicken parm and meatball subs are pretty good, although I hate to think about how many days worth of calories and fat each one contains. The pizza is amazingly greasy and not worth trying. The crust is disappointing.
Even though I lived next door for a year and now live 2 blocks away, I've never gone into the attached bar. There are some things not worth trying.Listed in: These are the people in my old…

**reviewing the bar**
Don't be scared of this place. It's actually one of the most low key, mellow bars I have ever been to. Some people might be intimidated by the atmosphere. I promise you it's fine.
I've gotten drunk here many a time. The bartenders are usually generous with the alcohol and are willing to make whatever you ask. If you stay late enough, the owner usually gives out free pies of pizza. The drinks are cheap as well.
If you're looking for a chill, low key place, come here. -

A couple of decent experiences in the subs department.... but today's pizza was a total let-down. Limp crust, low flavor, fell apart... canned mushrooms... need I go on? And the price was a couple dollars more than I expected.
Rude clientele today, to boot. Some of the food is decent here, but there are better options out there. -

Best pizza I've had in Boston (lived here for 2 years). The pizza has an amazingly delicious, seasoned crust and the sauce is killer. I've never had a bad experience getting pizza from here.
You might want to order to-go, it's not the greatest atmosphere inside -- I'm just rating strictly on pizza quality. -

I lived next door to Riverside Pizza for 3 years. I ate many sandwiches and pizzas at the joint. They make a solid meatball sub. Their pizzas are good.
I never went into the bar, but it's a true neighborhood spot filled with regulars. I would often have a quick chat with the regulars who were out grabbing a smoke. -

Riverside Pizza is a healthy hit of "ol' skool," keeping alive the feel of the era when each neighborhood had its hangout where...gotta say it...everybody knows your name. The globular white, red, and green light fixtures over the bar and the continuously-playing classic funk/R & B tunes complete the '70s feel. Its proprietors seem to be always there, mingling freely and jovially with the clientele as do the bartenders.
Another "back in the day" aspect is sauce that's called sauce and not aioli or whatever, and a menu where nothing is seared or drizzled. That's right, we're talking standard-issue all the way. Not a lot can be done to enhance a cheese pizza or a plate of fried clams or Wing Dings, but man do they taste better when cooked up fresh to order. Come hungry or be prepared to take some food home, 'cause Riverside dishes out FULL servings.
Jams from 20-30 years ago, friendly folks all around, heaps of hot yummy remarkably grease-free junk food...the sorta sketchy half-mile hike down River St is always worth it. -

I live not far from the place and this is my usual delivery place. Amazing pizza, amazing calzones, great greek cuisine items (love their Gyros!), great grilled chicken items. Great selection of special pizzas and pizza toppings.
If you are in the area and you are hungry for some pizza or greek food - give this place a try. You won't be dissapointed. -

I've lived nearby for 2 decades and don't go often, but the smell of fried foods makes me buy a pie whenever I walk by.
I've had pepperoni pizzas, Italian subs, Steak and cheese subs, and fries. All tasted good. You can also buy their homemade fried chicken by the piece. Very yummy. -

The place looks a little seedy but the food was pretty good.
The meals seem expensive but the portions are large. As for the pizza, I was more than satisfied with the plain and especially liked the light buttery crust. -
Review from Steven N.
There is nothing special about this place. It is a small pizza shop. I had a large pizza and some calimari. The calimari was hand breaded but thee was nothing special.

**reviewing the restaurant, primarily the pizza**
The outer appearance of this place is a little dismal and dreary (as are a lot of central square-ish places now that I'm thinking about it..). The paint on the signage is wearing, windows dirty, etc.
Inside - there is a pretty awesome lit up James Dean poster...with the trail of his cigarette lit up. This was the first great thing I noticed.
The next thing I noticed wasn't so great - no beer on tap except for Guinness (they claim to pour the best Guinness in Boston though) -- and they only had 2 SAM Adams lager bottles there that night! (Tuesday i believe) The other bottled beer selection wasn't bad...
Then, there is the pizza - just reading through the menu combinations was heavenly...bacon and garlic, Macedonia (with tomatoes, feta), sausage and peppers! The pies themselves were great - everything about them from the properly proportioned condiments, size of slice, taste, crust (the crust is medium thickness and a little crusty), sauce...etc.
Seriously this place is great, especially after playing a game at Hoyt Fields! Just needs some more beer on tap! -

I grew up right down the street from Riverside and grew up on the food. The pizza and fried calamari is very good and try the fish sandwich too. its small and cosy with a friendly atmosphere. very good Greek salad and the owners and management are very friendly and helpful. whenever i visit mass i always make a stop in to eat drink and be merry with old friends. its a landmark with good food and service at a reasonable price.

I always get deliverey from here and never been dissapointed. I've only had pizza and appetizers, but so far so good. Deliverey always gets here in 20-30 min. Cheap and tasty.

Their sandwiches are really good. They remind me of the subs from Publix and they have hot peppers like from Potbelly in DC. The bread and veggies are always fresh and the hot peppers are a great touch. The people are very nice also. I've never been to the bar and I've never had the pizza, but I really love this place for their sandwiches. I'm eating one right now and I was enjoying it so much that I took a break because I felt like I owed them a yelp review.

I would be a little scared to go here alone at night :) but the pizza was a wonderful discovery! The crust tastes fresh, and the tomato sauce is quite flavorful. The buffalo wings could've been better, but the fried chicken (which I haven't tried yet) looks pretty good. The salads are basic but the iceberg is fresh and crisp. The eggplant parm spaghetti was really very tasty, though I wish the pasta was just a little more al dente.
But hey, given that this is kind of a hole in the wall (don't make eye contact with the clientele), the inexpensiveness of the food (cheaper than frozen pizza from Shaw's), friendly service and quick delivery (within 30 mins if you live around Central Sq), leave your snobby gourmet tastebuds at the door and embrace the calorie-laden goodness of American-Italian cuisine at its best. -
Review from Mark D.

You have to love this place for its charm. It has a real "neighborhood" type feel as most patrons are regulars. The inside looks like it hasn't been altered in 20 years. I love the Buffalo wings, and I try them everywhere I go. This place knows how to do them, real crispy skin and lots of hot sauce. Lip smacking good. Some people come here to catch up with old friends or play Keno. No beers on tap. The mixed drinks are strong. I like the Long Island Ice Tea. Everything I like about this place I can understand why someone else would hate it. It is way off the beaten path so don't go if you don't mind being around almost nothing else.
