On and impulse we decided to go to River Rock for dinner last night.  Its location is King on the Frasier River with its own Canada Line Station. River Rock is a scenic 35 minute Bike Ride from Vancouver City Hall using the Heather Street bike way. The Casino's lobby is impressive with lots of open space and a lounge in the rear. The Casino's wrapping escalator is a fun ride to its restaurant level.

River Rock has two restaurants and Italian fine dining room that has great river views. Last night we chose the buffet which has cafeteria seating its nice but a pedestrian design (Who am I to complain I embrace the pedestrian lifestyle). Some of buffet dining area tables have river views. The Buffet's up side is the food it has a great salad bar anchored with Crab Legs and Shrimp. The hot food stations included a Prime Ride station with great hot/fresh vegetable dishes. The Beef was better than some of my recent Steak Houses visits. (See reviews) The meal closes with good choice of deserts with nice fresh fruit options. Dinner was relaxing and fun.

On our way out we stopped at the lounge to look around. I knew the DJ that was providing the entertainment (Wow I knew someone in town). His work is on the fun pop side opposed to the hip-hop club side. It was nice change of pace from Vancouver's restaurant scene.

Suggestion: River Rock could add a VIP Customer Bike Rack near the main lobby entrance for its Small Shots and Medium Rollers. PS: We didn't even walk into the gaming area; my gambling is limited to an occasional lotto ticket

A great place for a night of entertainment, even for the non-gambler.  There's live band, a few restos to choose from though I wouldn't really recommend, as how good can it be.

Though I find ppl here try to compare to Vegas, c'mon!  It's not bad for a local casino.  At least there's some vibe compared to the Edgewater in DT Van.  And the throbbing poker room is now relocated to the ground level in the parkade, should always call in  to put your name on the wait list.

Plus there's a theatre for shows, concerts, etc.  Even heard Jay Leno was here last year, too bad!

And now w/ the new hotel, built right on top of the parkade w/ the connecting Canada Line skytrain, pretty cool if you're a tourist.  But this side of parkade you have to pay for parking.  Try the original parkade, further one, for free parking.

We stayed @ The Hotel at River Rock
2 queen beds deluxe room  located on tower in front of River Rock Casino, the lobby was modern and  clean, staff was surprisingly courteous and responsive. We arrived close to midnight on a weekend, had informed them that we'll arrive late and it was not problem. However after arrival our room safe was out of order, they changed us to a different room, in a matter of few minutes.
The Room: was spotless with one exception, the beds were extremely comfortable, and plenty of down pillows, the is a mini fridge LED TV, large desk, armoire, in room safe with space for 3 laptops and then some. However someone had forgotten an empty wine bottle under the desk.
Though we didn't spend much time inside the room, it would have been nice if it was a little larger, It felt cramped, and our view was city skyline and monorail parking lot.
It would be ok if this was $80 per night hotel, but at almost $250 CAD is over priced. AAA gave this hotel 4 diamonds, why? Valet parking is an additional $12CAD, and breakfast is another $14.95 CAD per person.
They did offered us an upgrade to a suite for a future visit which was nice. All in all, there are better choices, though not as convenient if your main purpose is to visit the casino.
Hampton Inn is only a block from River Rock for about $80 a night with free parking and breakfast. The Sutton Place located @ West End $250 CAD for a Two bedroom suite, 800sq. ft.

When I booked a trip for Whistler we hit three hotels over the course of the weekend. I thought the Hyatt was nice until we got here. I couldn't believe the level of awesomeness this room had. The room was $159 and had free parking. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I have ever been in. The rooms have the beds in a separate room with it's own flat screen tv.

The bathrooms are huge, easy enough for two people to get ready in one. The comfort level of this room was easily a 5 star. Even though it was in a casino and out away from Vancouver, we jumped on the Sky train and discovered that we can get there faster than if we were driving. Now the plan is to stay here when we come up to Vancouver and take advantage of the sky train.

The rooms are really clean, as well.

The casino, now that is a solid 2 star hands down. The casino itself was lacking knowledgeable staff and the valet parking guys were very snarky to say the least, so we self parked.

With a packed gaming area, dance shows and live music, this grand casino is an entertaining way to "spend" a weekend in Richmond. You'll typically find seas of asians (all ages), groups of drinking dudes, the slot machine regulars and visitors from abroad staying at the hotel. It's along No.3 and Bridgeport, and easy to get to via transit (Bridgeport skytrain station on the Canada line) if you're thinking about making a stop by before or after an evening out.

I enjoy a good gamble just for kicks, but tend to do it mostly when in Vegas. This was my fourth time at River Rock. My girlfriends and I joined some friends who were staying at the hotel for an accounting conference. We watched them hit some highs and lows as they gambled away at craps. Done only on occasion, I find gambling with friends always turns out to be good times.

Hmm I shouldn't be talking about my gambling addiction so publicly! (jokes) but this review is for the Casino dealers. I haven't stayed in their hotel yet.

But grrrr.. sometimes Richmond's over abundant of asian (mostly chinese - yes, I am chinese.. but a ABC) spoils it for a lot of us. A lot of the dealers on the tables are asian.. and they'll only talk to you.. and be nice to you.. if you're an old chinese lady with a gambing addiction. and they speak chinese to each other, cause they don't want you in on their conversation! COME ONNNNNNN! Learn to speak some decent english, and give the other players a good time! We aren't here just to hand over our money.. atleast entertain us with small chitchat and pretend that you care, and pretend that you feel bad taking our hard earned pay.

Don't even get me started with the old chinese lady PLAYERS.. who grumble in chinese to themselves.. because other ppl don't know how to play blackjack properly. (It ticks me off too..) But atleast you don't see me shooting laser beams out of my eyes to the player. Its called gambling for a reason. Don't like the human interactions? Play at home! - This did not effect my rating btw :P

    RAWR! end of rant.
    atleast for now.

This review is for the buffet, casino, and music.

We had a company party buffet dinner here for a party of 40 people with four tables. Walking into the River Rock Casino I was impressed. The huge entrance with Christmas decor and lights and curving escalators going to the 2nd floor. On the left was the casinos while on the right was the theater.

Buffet-  $25 American-style buffet. A lot of variety but not impressed at all. Perhaps the dessert section was impressive. The sushi quality doesn't look fresh or professionally made. They had roast beef which was pretty good but nothing really stood out to me. Usually at buffets, there's at least one dish that will wow me. It's a pretty mediocre buffet here that just has quantity. The waitress was pretty moody and gave poor service. Hard to get a hold of her yet we gave her an undeserving thank you and clapping ovation for her service.

Casinos-  First time at a Casino. I noticed there's a lot of security watching for cheaters I guess. Just like in the movies. You look up at the ceiling and you notice it's like a sky with stars with camouflage cameras watching your every move. Not much of a gambler but I found it a bit overcrowded and bumping into people constantly. Kinda annoying you know? I found myself a little overwhelmed. Received $10 to gamble lost it in one game of black jack. I heard Asians are the pros in gambling, don't mess.

Music- Nearly Neil band was pretty rocking. A guy who sounds like Neil Diamond. They sounded pretty good. A lot of OG's dancing on the dance floor.

Tony Bennett coming to town on Jan 21st! Got excited, but then what sold out already? Dang it.

I'm no gambler. I come here with friends for the entertainment value.

Seniors glued to the one-arm bandits, crowds huddled over the tables, it's scary how much money flows (to the house) at any given moment.

They have go-go dancers on the weekend. Both male and female. Seeing a male go-go dancer in a casino is just plain awkweird. Creepy old asian dudes staring at the girl in the cage - disturbing.

But if you wanna gamble, this is the biggest, most convenient (lots of parking and connected to Canada Line) casino in the GVRD.

The rooms are consistently spotless and comfortable. Considering I live in Richmond, I've stayed overnight here pretty often.

The beds are comfortable and normally are King sized. The last time I stayed (last month) our suite had 2 flat screen LG tv's, one in the bedroom and one in the living room, which was awesome.

The staff are always attentive and friendly and I have never had a problem any of the times I've stayed here.

There's a pool with a water slide, a decent spa and of course the casino downstairs which you can't hear at all when you're in your room. Oh, and the entire premises is smoke free except for a few designated spots.

What a place in Richmond to stop and gamble your hard earn $$ away...well not always...people seem to be winning and having fun...most, like me....didn't walk out with more than I walked in with.

The table games were a tad different from what I expect at home...not much Blackjack tables but there is this game call "texas bonus" and "texas shootout" was interesting....it's like texas hold em' but with a twist.

There was NO poker rooms or poker tables but hell of a lot of Baccarat games...WOW....guess because of all the Asians that visit there...it must be for them.

The place was small but looks like it is under construction too so they might be expanding....who knows....poker room??

My intentions were to be pampered inside absolute spa (have lunch, drinks and get a t-shirt) on my happiest day of the year. But their spa scheduler only had 11am, 2:45pm and 3pm spots open. And then, she forced me to read a Spa Menu to pick exactly what I needed done or no appointment could be made.

That just totally confused me. The talking was so circular and blah-blah that I couldn't handle it. She was sending me to the airport when I wanted to be at River Rock. And who's Wendy? I am here for me!!!

And so, I'm left to explore River Rock.....

Not sure what to do, I open a BC Gold Preferred Guest Card (not all my ideas are bright, but I try). They gave me free slot play, a little extra something-something and a logo pen. Before they sent me over for monetary unit exchanges. Everyone was so--- hospitable, especially the gentleman that initially assisted me.

I'll skip my slot experiences. And move straight on to the buffet....

The Lunchtime Buffet at River Rock is the best one I've experienced to date. It is very spa-inspired. And that slice of Strawberry-Almond Tart was a perfect ending to my meal. Natural flavors with minimal sweetness. But don't be alarmed, there are a lot more desserts. They have their own section. And fondue for fruit and marshmallows!

River Rock Resort appears to still be building up. They need a better store. The kind with luxuriant goods, foods and wines to match the rest of the place. And a few times a month, celebrities and musicians have shows in an adjunct venue.

Drive, fly and/or use public transportation for a show, gambling, drinking, dining, resort weekend getaways or just everything!

Room was great (the Penthouse) and check in girl was great too, but ... we were playing poker till pretty late (1 -2 in the morning) in the Penthouse, 5 guys, a little drunk and probably talking too loud and they told us to keep it down or they would be back and there would be trouble!!!  Anyone not registered would be kicked out.  OK no music just some loud talkers.  Either you don't have proper acoustics or some old couple was being a little sensitive.  We paid good money for the Penthouse and if we through a real party in there then they would have had something to complain about!  If you are going there for a fun time just remember don't have the fun time in your room after 11 ...  Its a Casino!!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed my stay at the River Rock!  My husband and I took a quick trip up to BC on the Amtrak and spent two nights at the resort.  I was pretty impressed by the quality of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff.  We had a fun time in the casino, didn't win much but it was fun.
The nicest thing was that the resort is connected to Vancouver's skytrain system so it's really easy to get to if you're not driving.  There is a nice pool area with a water slide.  There's no lifeguard or attendant for the slide so if you have kids keep a good eye on them.  I can't believe some of the parents just letting their kids run wild there, an accident waiting to happen.  There's also a nice hot tub!
We had breakfast at the buffet and it was a little disappointing.  Maybe I'm just used  to Vegas buffets.  Just two blocks away for the resort there is a Costco, save yourself some money on food and drinks there (more to gamble with, haha).

I had an excellent stay here. The room was very nice and the bed was super comfortable. I believe every room in the hotel is a suite, and they're very spacious. The hotel is very conveniently located on a SkyTrain stop, with down town a 15-minute train ride away.

The buffet was excellent, although I was only there during breakfast. There's a heavy Asian population in Richmond, so there are lots of excellent Dim Sum and Chinese food restaurants near by.

The pool was nice (albeit a bit on the cool side) and the water slide was great fun for our 5-year-old.

And although I'm not a gambling buff, I had a great time in the casino.

The curved escalator was just about as good as this casino gets! No, I'm being too harsh. When a good name is in town, the theatre is a good venue, not amazing, but solid. And now you can bring drinks in so no more chugging them down outside!

What really sucks the life out of the River Rock for me is the casino - you know-- what they're named for. Men in suits and ladies in sweatpants bidding on roulette with their sad, "I just lost all of my money" thoughts and "this next one is going to be the big one" grimaces. The "live entertainment" left me wondering if A) Amy Winehouse knew they were butchering her Rehab song and B) How the one girl with a decent voice had a wind machine following her. I felt guilty for laughing, but between the token white dude duwoping with the gals and the tragic group of youngings trying to create a dance floor, it was just sad, sad, sad.

With a bud light with lime (Yes, that's what I said I was drinking - options at one particular kiosk were Smirnoff Ice, Kokanee, Budweiser, Corona and Canadian-yick, yick, and yick) wetting my whistle, I felt like I was one of the gang, but truthfully, I was all alone in a sea of "bigshots" with "gold member cards" attached to bouncy cords.

It wins it's way into the 3 star realm only for the fact that the ceiling was twilight sparkling, the Canada Line goes straight to the casino and of course, the fact that bring in some pretty good stand up acts (I've now seen Sarah Silverman and Bill Mayer there).

Recently spent a night at the River Rock Casino and was pleasantly surprised.  The hotel is new and the room was nice and spacious.  The bed was very very comfortable.  The nice thing about staying in a casino is that whenever you want to be entertained, you can just go downstairs and do a little gambling and/or people watching.  And when you get tired of gambling, the room is right upstairs for you to rest a little.  I also tried their "International Food Court" which was very small, but does have a "Chinese Noodle Shop".  The food was decent, which since you are in Richmond, unless you would just eat the Chinese food here for convenience sake.  The staff here was very friendly and nice as well.

    Overall, a very nice stay.

Clean. $5 tables (unheard of on the Las Vegas strip nowadays). Free parking. Safe. Non-smoking. Simple food court.

Just expect to pay for your drinks even if you are at the tables. The bar tender also told my group that he had a limit on how many drinks he could make for people. I've never heard of that before!

Oh and there are cover bands - blech.

My mom and I stopped here for the night while heading west for her big cross-country move and we had a blast. Our sixth-floor suite had huge windows and we were treated to a complimentary upgrade to a marina-view room. For an extra $25 pet fee, we were able to give our cat the run of the room. Although the suite lacked a bathtub, the shower was luxurious and relaxing enough to make up for it.

A boardwalk circles the backside of the casino, and it was fun to check out the boats moored at the docks and to watch the wildlife in the small wetland area beside the small marina. A pair of geese waddled along with four playful chicks in tow, and a heron stood among the reeds.

We spent a few hours in the casino downstairs, where there is a great selection of penny and two-cent machines to keep those who aren't into risking the big bucks busy. Our only complaint was the price of drinks at the casino bar.

River Rock's buffet maybe didn't live up to its big price tag, but I really enjoyed the variety of vegetarian friendly options available, including gluten. The range of desserts was impressive; my mom and I gluttonously sampled about 8 different dessert items as well as some fresh fruit. Aside from the gelatinous creme caramel, all were hits, especially the chocolate cherry pavolva and strawberry almond torte. Included in the price of our room was a trip to the breakfast buffet, which had a bit less to offer than the dinner. I wound up having a fairly light meal - a croissant, a bowl of fruit and some smoked salmon. Our server at breakfast was really friendly and attentive, unlike the overworked dinner servers.

It might not live up to Las Vegas, but this is Canada. The 24-hour River Rock Casino showed my mom and I a wonderful time and I'd definitely recommend it.

Over all my feeling about this very odd "adult playground" are mixed. I enjoyed very much the walk around on the boardwalk. (see pix).

The gambling floor is just too weird, the hotel is quite nice and I would return to walk around and get a bite to eat maybe in the "food court" area. The Buffet just has a weird vibe to it, and the people that work there are part of that vibe. http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

The Show theatre is good though. http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

Over all it's a good package but I was disappointed in the lack of cultural diversity on the floor. This is NO Vegas or Reno. This is a very Asian experience. Personally, I felt out of place, and not comfortable enough to gamble.

The first "big" local casino to hit the neighborhood. I remember when River Rock first opened, as the premier gambling destination for your money, to try to sway all the people riding the bus to some american native reserve casino, and it has done the job. Situated at the near Bridgeport and No. 3, you will find this busy casino right along a Skytrain line (how did this happen?) Easy accesibility to all the suspecting gamblers indeed.

Luckily there are other things in this casino than gambling. The buffet upstairs is so-so ($25 a head, the restaurant near the convention rooms is actually nice. And the convention area has definately improved with the spiral escalators. The one thing that you can do notice is losing time in this place. As the ceilings are black, you really do not know what time of day it is, unless you actually decide to walk out the door to see the light.

There is a nice little boardwalk from the parkade to the casino, and a nice view of the Oak Street bridge, but with so many new casinos that have popped up in the lower mainland, River Rock definately needs to add more to their Casino "Experience", as a destination for your money. Maybe a nice chic bar like the Grand Villa could be a start.

Go for the events but bypass the buffet!

River Rock brings in some interesting acts (intermingled with some crazy ones as well) and I found myself going there with a group of friends a couple months ago.

We decided that to save time we would try out the buffet before the show.  Yikes!  Mistake.  I've been to my share of casinos and know my way around a buffet but this was more like a family get together potluck.

The food was overcooked, half the trays were empty, and food was dribbled all over the place.  The quality of food I tried was not on par with anything found in Reno or Vegas.

Next time, we will skip the buffet and pack a granola bar in our pocket.  Fortunately, the venue was good and we enjoyed the show (hence, 3 stars).

I hate casinos.  I hate gambling.  I hate the trash that flock to such venues; however, the River Rock was different.  The hotel was very nice and the amenities were accommodating.  Since I'm not a gambler, I spent most of my time in the Absolute Spa, which cost me a close fortune, but I'm sure it was better spent there than on slot machines.  A big plus, the pool and hot tub!

YES.  I'm a fan of River Rock casino here in Richmond.   I have to preface I have never stayed here but I've played here enough times to know this can be a really fun place anytime during the week.

The casino itself is a good size, filled with a variety of table games and slots.  My first visit here was a little too smokey for me, but I have a feeling that will be changed soon if it hasn't already been done already.

The boardwalk on the outside of the casino is nice for a stroll during the day or night.  Also, there are a lot of big names that come out here fairly often, so this casino is a real nice addition to the city of Richmond.

Im on the last night of a 6 night stay at the River Rock.  We had planned only to stay two nights and then switch to a downtown property.  However, once we checked in we didn't want to leave.  The rooms are beautiful and clean.  The staff is both attentive and extremely service oriented.  Contrary to some of the other reviews, we found the food here limited but quite good.  We ate at the buffet several times during our stay and found the quality of the food to be superb.  Because of the size of the room, the number of selections are limited and do not compare with Vegas style buffets.  But the quality of the food was quite good.

We brought our young daughter with us and she found the pool and the water slide to be the high light of the trip (the water is a bit cold)

The casino is quite nice with a good selection of most of the current slot machines.  The fact that the casino is non smoking is a big plus for non smoker.  They have a good poker room that is well managed and very hospitable.

The fact that the hotel is connected to the Sky Train is also a big plus.  You can get into downtown Vancouver in about 25 minutes and is very convenient.

The biggest challenge we had was the fact they down have a coffee shop and that the food court is inaccessible to children.  So if you have kids you are either eating at the buffet or you have to go offsite for meals.  If they had a coffee shop or other options for dining for those of us that travel with children, I would consider give this place a 5 star.

They screwed up my reservation, there mildew in the shower, there is no bathtub, my card has stopes working twice so far, they still have tube TV's and to top things off, my matters had a huge dent in it the first night, so no sleep.

Stepping into the River Rock, you will think you are in a Vegas hotel/casino. The sheer size is incredible and they paid a lot of attention to the decor. I have attended a few events here as well, and for a corporate event or party this place is great.

I haven't gambled much here, but there is a lot of options for card tables and machines. I have also patroned one of their lounges which made delicious cocktails.

I suggest visiting even just to have a look around, this is a gorgeous place.

Good casino but really lacks a great restaurant. It's the perfect location for a great bar/ restaurant with a patio. They really missed the boat here. Good for gambling but that is it.

Vancouver's BEST casino! (and biggest too). And with the new expansion and sky train coming in sooner than later - this casino will ONLY get busier. The casino is fully non-smoking so it's friendly to people with allergies and the air seems fresher... And just like all casinos, there's free parking and free drinks whilst gambling! =)

The theatre inside the casino is really great. The seats are angled perfectly so that even if there is a 7 foot guy sitting in front of you, you will still be able to see!

The rooms here are pretty nice.  We had a two-bedroom suite and each room had a nice King bed plus a sofa bed in the living room.  At first I loved the beds, but in the am, I realized they were so soft, I had trouble getting up.  I am a firm bed fan.  Everything was well-kept though, service was decent and they have a nice little dock to walk around on.

All the rooms are suites, which are a plus. Sophia the event coordinator was impeccable!
The bartender told me that there was a time limit on how many drinks I could have in one hour, non smoking was a plus.
With the new renovations for the 2010 Olympics, there were no places to eat breakfast-except the Food Court, where a nice prostitue sat nearby and stared off.
There on business and the convention room that is it's own self contained area was nice with good service. Additional service fee for the wireless connection but payg once out of the 2 times we've been there, 45cdn is not bad.
The place was okay, but I love Vancouver so being 15 minutes away from the city was awesome :)

I spent a couple of hours here when I was in Vancouver for a two day trip.  I came with two of my friends -- one a gambler and the other not so much.  I'm actually not much of a gambler myself, but I did give myself permission to spend up to $20 that night.  And spend I did.  As a novice gambler, I am not familiar with how one wins at the slots...of course, one doesn't really win (at least not big) while at the slots, so it's a moot point.  I somehow managed to lose $10 on the nickel slots in 5 minutes.  Actually, I spent $5 in a matter of seconds because I didn't realize how much I was betting.  After that, I switched to video poker and had about an hour of fun while losing on $7.

This place was entertaining, but it's definitely not Vegas.  Drinks are a bit expensive -- I think my friends bought a bottle of beer each for $7.50 a bottle.  If you're staying at one of the Richmond hotels, there's a free shuttle that will pick you up.  It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the casino though because the shuttle pretty much stops at every hotel in the area before getting to the casino.

Stayed here on the way though, found the room nice and clean, was expecting more with the pool area, and the restaurant was Ok but I would go else where to get better food for less..  The price was ok and the fact it is attached to the skytrain was the great, free parking also helped.  Found it was not that near anything, and it was a bit of a walk (or drive) to anywhere else to eat. Would we stay here again - maybe it depends on the price..

I love the poker room here.  Beware regulars everywhere.  If it's your first time playing here, play tight.  Table tops were just switched several weeks ago, so poker tables looks brand new.  Love it!!!

Not too bad, but not as nice as the ones in Vegas. The craps tables were hot when I got there, but unfortunately I was not able to play a round since my underage cousin was waiting for us outside.

I'm not a big fan for gambling but this Casino has major pluses 1. convenient- you can take the skytrain directly to here 2. Clean and non smoking environment inside 3. courteous staff and crowd. Lovely coffee carts that go around ensure you can stay up all night having fun 4. I also noticed there was a lot of bilingual literature to help Chinese speaking/reading folks to feel at ease and teach them how to play the game and has literature in Chinese on debunk gambling myths.

all I was trying to do was buy a gift card for the casino.  But I was required to go the resort side to buy it, because apparently the casino doesn't sell their own gift cards (which doesn't make any sense since the casino area is the only side that actually has personnel and tons of people).

Of course a large company like this would have only one person authorized to make such a transaction.  Who happens to not be there.

I won't be returning.  I can go to any mall and buy a gift card with practically no waiting and get a thank you gift from them as well.

Living in Las Vegas, it's hard for me to travel anywhere and get excited about a casino.  I came up to Vancouver for a poker tournament called the BC Poker Championships, and River Rock was the hosting casino.  Not much to complain about with the casino... ample space for the poker tournament, good staff, and there seemed to be a good variety of slots and tables games.  However, it's lacking the video poker bars I enjoy in Vegas.  And the food all seemed to be very average.  If I lived in Vancouver I'm sure I'd love this place, though.

I truly believe the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond is the closest thing to Las Vegas B.C. has to offer. Overlooking the Fraser River, River Rock offers a plethora of slot machines, poker tourneys, and a Racebook area for fans of horse racing, as well as other amenities such as a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet ($20 a plate/person), tropical-style swimming pool ($10, plus you can use the hot tub and gym), onsite Absolute Spa (offering facials, massages, hydrotherapy, and more), and the River Rock Show Theatre, which features 950 seats and some great live acts.
