Another fantastic meal on Saturday. The Caesar salad is unmatched anywhere for freshness and taste. My girlfriend had the salmon and I had the chicken pasta and both were perfect. Add in creme brule and fruit crisp desserts and the evening was perfect. Yes the bill was high, but worth every penny. The River House Grill gives you meals and service that you never forget.

We had an excellent time at River House Grill, taking in the special menu available for Mother's Day.

My meal began with a seasonal organic greens salad, with a delicious vinaigrette and small balls of fresh mozzarella on the side. My main course was a perfectly cooked piece of arctic char with an amazing sauce, followed by a great raspberry crepe for dessert to end the meal.

The seasonal and local flavors River House Grill is known for were really on display here. I've only eaten there once before, but it wasn't on a day with a set menu. There was enough choice for all three courses to satisfy anyone, and all the dishes looked like they would taste as amazing as the ones I had. I'd definitely go back there for another dinner with a special set menu.

Like last time the service was great (we had the same waiter as before), both friendly and attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu.

Thank goodness I did my research ahead of time because I would have ended up at Ricky's with the rest of the crew - yuck.

This is a cute little restaurant in an older looking building just off St Albert trail. The building itself is only 20 years old, but it had a lot of character. Rivet House Cafe has been around for 10 years. Before that, this place was a home for some commercial housing and an art gallery, so I was told.

They have a pretty simple menu. All of their starters are either a type of soup or salad which was kind of weird, but it all looked good so I didn't mind. If you want to share a starter, they charge a $3 for splitting it - also strange. I ordered the blended lentil soup with lemon yogurt to start. It was perfectly mild in taste and the lemon yogurt gave it a nice little kick. I got the center cut angus sirloin. It was a huge 12oz steak grilled with pink peppercorns topped with a chipotle butter, balsamic drizzle, mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The best part about a good restaurant is that you get REAL vegetables! Everything was very good except that my steak was a little too well done for my liking.

Last thoughts: the food was good but there were some things that could have been better. However, the service was great, the venue is very cute, and the washrooms? Super tiny!! (just as cramped at Ming in Calgary)

The River House Grill is a fantastic place for a special occasion. The locally sourced food is amazing, and although the portions don't look huge (they are definitely well presented) they fill you up!

Have been here twice now and had a great experience both times, but the last time they had the dining room closed for a private function and seated us in the bar area. Not bad but the dining room is definitely preferred. I would recommend asking if you will be seated in the dining room or bar because had I known, I would have saved my reservation for another night.

Also on the slightly pricey side (over $60/person), but worth it.

River House Grill is located in a converted Victorian House in the heart of St. Albert and is Known for regional cuisine with exquisite presentation.  Most of the salads and entrees are made using local ingredients (both vegetables and meat), and the desserts are prepared in-house.  It is a bit on the pricey side, but the ambience and view is spectacular.  Reservations recommended.
