Review from Jordan H.
Ripple Rock replaces the old Kimwich Cafe and serves cold and hot sandwiches, burgers, soups, stews, etc. They do breakfast too.
I had the cheeseburger and fries my first time in. It came with their "house made sauce", ketchup, lettuce, tomato, and caramelized onions on a sesame seed kaiser. I thought the patty was a bit lean, but everything else was good.
I chatted with who I think was one of the proprietors while I waited for my lunch and it seems like they're pretty serious about a quality lunch under $10, which can be hard to find downtown. -
Review from Ellen L.
Tucked in the secret alleyway behind the BMO building is this unassuming little cafe that offers comfort food choices with a gourmet twist. There was a consistent stream of customers at lunch, but not madly hectic. There are oodles of natural lighting coming through greenhouse-esque windows. I imagine it would be quite nice for a casual sit-down lunch on a sunny day.
Their lunch menu consists of mainly sandwiches. I decided on the Porchetta and the featured Bean & Bacon Soup, which came to a grand total of $11 and change. Remember to tip when dining in because servers do bring the food to your table and will refill your water.
The Porchetta was solid 3-star quality. There is room for improvement on the tenderness of the pork, crispiness of the skin, and the overall greasiness. But it was still a very tasty sandwich. The soup was disappointing. I should've skipped on it because the sandwich was more than enough to fill my tummy.
Please continue to feature interesting hot lunch options and I'll definitely be back exploring the secret lunch alleyway.
