What can I say. This is great Jamaican food. There isn't much competition so I would have to say this is as good as it get's if you don't want to spend a huge wad of cash.
Everything was great here, the beef patties (that they have up front) were really good. I'm craving them right now ;)
The food was good. It felt authentic and less synthetic than let's say, your basic Chinese restaurant. But in a way this is kind of on the same level. It's a really great alternative to Chinese or Mexican food on Friday night or for lunch. -

If there's one point I want you to take away from this review, it's this: the ackee and saltfish will take a LOOOOONG time to prepare. Don't order it if you're hungry for food RIGHT NOW.
One of those lazy nights watching movies with my SO on the couch; we decided to let someone else do the cooking. We logged on to http://eat24hours.com to view our options. "Oooh, Jamaican! Sounds awesome, we thought." The reviews were great, the prices were reasonable, some people mentioned something about slowness? Whatever, we were ordering early.
Long story short, we placed the order at about 6pm and the food came in at about 8pm. The details: After about an hour (the ETA for the delivery), both our bellies and our minds were troubled. We scouted the GrubHub website for a number to call, and ran into their online chat help. Apparently it was taking so long because they prepared the ackee and saltfish from scratch. As in, cleaning and scaling the fish, then cooking it. Oops, my bad; that was my order (I'd never had it before; apparently it's the national dish of Jamaica, which made me want to try it even more).
When the food finally came, we were starving and gobbled it all up. Well, not ALL of it. It's heavy, greased-up food in generous serving sizes; there was still some leftover rice for the next day. Besides the ackee and saltfish, we also got jerk chicken, which was great and worth the wait. SO called it his favorite; it was juicy without being spicy. To be honest, the ackee and saltfish was not worth the wait, though it had a nice turmeric flavor. Now, I don't claim to be an A&S expert, I found it pretty salty and oily. If they toned down on those two aspects of the dish, I think I would have enjoyed it much more. Decent Jamaican rice.
I don't know if everyone who experienced slow delivery ordered the ackee and saltfish, but it would be nice if they put a warning or something next to those certain menu items that take a little longer to prepare. -

Find this place on Grubhub when you realize you've been ordering from Circles too often.
The grilled tilapia is surprisingly good. It has a nice, meaty, almost umami-ish aftertaste that really sold me on it.
The jerk chicken was well-prepared. The meat just scurried right off the bone into my mouth. I really enjoyed the rice that it was served with, as well as the side of steamed cabbage. It doesn't come spicy automatically so make sure you tell them that you want it spicy and you are serious.
If you like fried plantains crispy, this is not the place for you. The fried plantains from Rio Cobre are kinda soft.
Sadly, the macaroni and cheese did not impress me at all. -

I'm a major fan of Jamaican food, but since I've lived in Philadelphia I haven't found great Jamaican food. That all changed when I randomly ordered delivery from Rio Cobre via GrubHub. It was phenomenal! We ordered a small curry goat and a large stewed chicken to share. The portions are huge! The meat was so tender. The goat was a little salty, but the chicken is probably the best stewed chicken I have ever had! This place is great and I'm definitely going to dine-in in the near future.
One other note: On GrubHub there are a lot comments about their delivery service taking too long. My food got there exactly when it was projected to be there. An added bonus. So worth the hour wait! -

The food is amazing, but there is zero atmosphere (think Chinese take out). The jerk chickens incredible and so are the beef patties! Also, the music was really loud when we were there..so maybe takeout is the best way to enjoy this place!

I had read such great things about Rio Cobre and I wanted to believe it so I decided to go for it. Ordered the jerk chicken that so many had raved about. The chicken, sauce, rice, everything was so . . . monotonous and bland. I was really looking forward to the vibrant flavors and heat of Jamaican food but I got neither. "Excellent Jamaican food?" Not even close.

Small menu. I had the beef patty and it was great. I would assume that is an indication the rest of the food is as lovingly prepared.
