Ricky's is one of those places that is quite hard to try for dinner, because it keeps closing at 1900.  So today I finally had a chance to try their all-day breakfast.

Parking here kinda sucks, unless you have friends that live in the nearby condos.  There's also an EasyPark nearby, but chances are you aren't going to make a trip out just to eat here.

The interior is clean and stylish, but tiny.  In terms of depth, the seating area is wide but "shallow".  There is also an outside patio but as it was closed today (rain).

If I were to describe this place in 1 sentence, it would be "just like Denny's but with less grease".  The menu items are 80% identical (with different names of course).

    As for the food?

Hash browns - shredded, just like Denny's.  Nice and crispy, and not too salty or greasy.

Toast - really really dry.  Of course this just means that they didn't dip it in butter before toasting, so this is not a bad thing.

Sausage - same thing.  Not too greasy.

Eggs - they're.. normal and not rotten.  Yay?

The server was friendly, but as she was also the hostess, it was impossible to flag her down half the time.

The food here is decent, but to be honest, it's nothing special.

I only ever go to Ricky's for breakfast. They don't have anything else on their menu that stands out to me enough to have me come back for more.

Even their breakfasts are kind-of sub-par. They do have large portions for the price though, which is great if you're a glutton like me (or hungover).I like eggs bennedict... and they have them here. I like the big belgium waffle too. But overall, I only ever go here when I'm too lazy to walk anywhere else because I just live across the street.

The food is decent for the price. The service is pretty poor and the atmosphere is really lame. Overall, pretty sucky place... but decent breakfasts.

Came for breakfast today and a line up at the door, no one came to take names or tell us how long it would be. All of us totally ignored. Left and went somewhere else.

Yikes. Well if I had read the reviews before coming here, I probably wouldn't have, which would've been a shame because my white chocolate scone french toast with boysenberry & raspberry sauce was quite delicious and very filling.  The coffee was also pretty good.  The bacon, however, was disappointing and definitely not worth the $2.50 extra.

This place was convenient to my hotel and right across the street from the SkyTrain station so had an ideal location.  The service I had wasn't as bad as indicated in many of the other reviews, but it wasn't exactly sharp either.  The gal who filled my coffee did a pretty good job of being on the ball, but the other waitress not so much.  The decor is upscale grill and the prices reflect that, but the food and service land it more in the upscale Denny's category.  I'd have no objections to coming back here but I wouldn't go out of my way either.

My friend and I both had the burger which was really good. The service on the other hand was terrible. The girl who took our orders and brought us the food seemed like she didn't want to be at work at all.

After we've been served our food I wanted to add some dressing but it was very difficult to get in contact with any of the waitresses. They were all three standing outside the kitchen chatting with the chef. Also, when we came we were the only ones in the restaurant and the waitress sat us as far as way as possible which meant that they didn't pay any attention to us - and therefore we had trouble getting them to our table.

A major minus is the fact that it was so cold in the restaurant. My friend and I were both freezing the entire time we were there.

Over all the food was great - the service not so much.

Completely ridiculous! As stated in other reviews, the waitress seemed to be annoyed at having to take our orders and was almost pissed off when we asked for anything extra. When the food finally came (took far too long for what we ordered) it was decidedly lacklustre. I had chicken strips (my fave thing in the world) which were OK and limp, lifeless fries with no flavour. My friend had a grilled cheese which seemed to me to have been left too long on the grill and was greasy as hell.

You'd think being right next to both stadiums and so close to both Gastown and Yaletown they'd up their standards a few notches considering the amount of business they could generate. Whatever.

Hostess service was dreadful, I recommend changing your sign to 'seat yourselves'. Finally acknowledged with a nod and shown to seat.

The menu has lots of choice but I only ordered yam fries. The yam fries were not good, overcooked and dry. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich which was OK but she has seen and tasted better apparently.

My two stars goes to our lovely and punctual waitress who asked me for ID when I ordered a vodka.

    Sigh......

I occasionally go to Ricky's with my work mates for Friday beer on their sunny patio, so I'm already sympathetic to them.

However, I actually went in the other day and ordered food. I got synthetic prefab yam fries with fatty garlic something-something dip. One can scarcely call it food.

    Need I write more?

Shockingly, my meal here was pretty decent! It's been at least 10 years since I set foot in a Ricky's, so when everything else in the area was closed on Christmas Eve, I wasn't expecting a very good brunch. The service was good and the food was pretty decent. Also spiked milkshakes were only $5 so we all had one!

The waffles were pretty average, my boyfriend had steak and eggs and was shocked that the steak was actually good. Two friends had BC Bennys that fell a little flat.

Overall, if there's nothing else open, it will do, but you'd be far more satisfied crossing the street for Chambar or Cafe Medina!

great place for hungover, weekend brunch (especially if you live around the area because it's right there and you can go in your sweats, looking like complete shit - total bum styles). the food is pretty good and reasonably priced.

they even have a patio, which is awesome.

the only downside to this place is that they close mad early (like 6 pm or 7 pm i believe?) so if you want to go for a last minute dinner... you can't.

Greasy spoon, good for a hang over breakfast.   That's about it. Wouldn't have lunch or dinner here unless it was free.   There are just too many alternate options in the area.

This location is just steps away from GM Place Stadium and BC Place Stadium, as well as the Stadium skytrain station and Chinatown in downtown Vancouver.

Had breakfast with a very large group of over 20 people on a Sunday morning.  They have a nice patio, so we could soak up the morning sun.
Lotsa of choices.  I settled for the Ricky Original Breakfast special. 2 eggs with buttermilk pancake, with 2 pieces of sausages.  Overall, slightly better than Denny's.

Following my 8K run in the BMO Marathon - in the rain, from which I was totally drenched - we stopped at Ricky's. Because it was close by and we wanted some comfort food.

The service was...slightly annoyed. Ya, that's how our server was. You could tell she really didn't want to be there, and didn't like people very much. Maybe she always does the Sunday morning shift, and is just sick and tired of it.

When I asked for some mayonnaise to go with my curly fries (yes, I know, it was brunchtime, but I had earned it!), I swear she mentally rolled her eyes. Upon her return, she walked right past our table - couldn't figure out who had asked for the mayonnaise.

She did the same thing with my coffee.

The food was what I needed. But it was one of those desperation moments. Not at the top of my "let's go again" list.

I obviously should have checked Yelp before eating here, I would have known. Basically, it took forever to get out food - about 90 hour, even though the place wasn't busy and we just ordered pancakes with eggs and chicken strips with fries. Our waitress acted like taking our orders wasn't worth her time and apparently refiling our drinks really wasn't worth while. The food was okay, nothing terrible, but not nothing impressive.

Ricky's is an American style diner which brings back a little bit of the taint that is the love of a good greasy spoon diner.  Service is ok, the dishes are alright.  They make one thing though that makes it all worth while, the grilled sour dough meatloaf sandwich.  They also have excellent thick cut steak style french fries.

Ricky's is not always my restaurant of choice, but for decent food and value, it's a good option.  We live close by and when walking is not exactly what we feel like doing, a breakfast bowl or egg's benny at Ricky's is always a welcome respite from whatever might be ailing us.  As the name implies, it is an all-day grill, so being they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with cocktails and dessert.
