Good food. I like there lunch specials. Second time my boyfriend and I stopped by but they just closed in the afternoon. We went in to ask when will they open, they told us to take a seat and they would serve us. That was pretty awesome of them. Will come here again when I'm in the area.

Typical Chinese...good but nothin special. Egg drop soup, orange chicken, fried rice. A-ok.
Really, nothing special. Move along, people. Nothing to see here. -

Received a flyer for Rickshaw Corner in our mail and decided to give them a try. Seeing how many Chinese and Asian food joints there are in the Clairemont/Keanry Mesa area, it's surprising that there are not very many that deliver.
Come to find out, Rickshaw doesn't deliver to our area normally, but since they "weren't too busy" they said they would.
(So why do we get a flyer in our mail, if we are not in the normal delivery area?)
Anyway, food arrived within the 45-60 minute time allowance and the delviery guy was very nice. And the food was nice and hot when it arrived.
When we removed the first styro container from the custom Jack Daniels liquor box our large order came in, the cheap ass styro container folded and there goes our Combo Chow Mein all over the kitchen floor.
@$%!!! - why do people still use styrofoam in this day and age?
Looking at the mangled stryo container from Rickshaw Corner, with it's happy message of "Muchos Gracias" emblazoned on the top, I was starting to think we'd made a mistake.
But once we cleaned up the mess and we dug into the food it was actually quite good.
Cashew Chicken, Crispy Beef and even the remainder of the Combo Chow Mein were very tasty, though the Chow Mein had some hard uncooked noodles in it. The egg rolls and crab stuffed wontons were really nice too.
They didn't ask if we wanted fried or white rice, so we only got white.
And even though there was no spicy mustard in our order (I guess you need to request that?) there were 3 other containers of sauces that we were not quite sure what they were for, but they tasted good. Sweet and sour, maybe plum sauce.
I think we will order again, if they are willing to deliver to our area, of course.
But we'll just be careful removing the styro containers from the box!! -

I've been in Tierrasanta for about 2 years now. About a year ago I ordered from chinese place off of TS blvd and had it delivered. It was horrible. Since then I haven't attempted any others because there aren't any close enough to deliver and that's the only time I want chinese (depressed, lazy days). I didn't know Rickshaw was around here until today. I ordered for pick up actually (my hangover had diminished enough).
I got the Crispy Beef in Orange Peel sauce, Crispy Cream Cheese/Crab Wontons and the Gyoza Appetizer.
Food was ready when I picked it up and she said she added a few extra wontons to my order. i got home and started eating! There was a ton of food. The wontons were great (not to hard to mess those up), the cream cheese filling had good flavor. The potsticker s were pretty good too. They steam them then pan fry for a little crispiness. The filling is a seasoned pork filling. Nothing too special but it was tasty enough. There was SO MUCH of the crispy beef! A big ol' styrofoam container of it. I agree with another reviewer. It was almost as if it had been cooked a few times over throughout the day. It was kinda dry and super crispy to there point where the meat was chewy. The sauce is good (typical orange chicken sauce with pieces of orange peel) and it was good enough to where I kept eating and didn't throw it in the trash or anything. People who goes to places like this are expecting that kind of food and most of us enjoy it. If you want PF Changs....... go to PF Changs. If you want quick, kinda greasy "chinese" food, this is a good place for it.
I won't be chomping at the bit to go back to this place but if I ever get the craving I'll go back. -

I think this place is pretty good with portion sizes and quality. Just a little out of my distance to drive to. Sometimes give you free thing if you get coupon from their website. I always enjoy their food but have yet to try their Japanese portion of the menu. I believe that the restaurant itself is a nice size and that they have a good value.

This restaurant boasts that they have Chinese and Japanese cuisine. I disagree. The Japanese side of the menu is beyond lacking. I ordered sushi and it was loosely rolled with huge knife cuts on the cucumber inside. Their Rickshaw soup was better, but lacking in flavor. I was praying for Sriracha sauce or anything to make it taste more interesting. Insult to injury - it took 10 minutes to be asked what I wanted to order when I was the only customer there. Stale fortune cookie. Okay I will stop lol.

It was just Okay. Nothing special. I ordered some beef lunch special, and it had ginger in it. And I HATE ginger. Wish it had the menu description underneath it. I would have ordered something else. Fried rice was good, but it just had egg, no veggie. But I'm willing to give them another try.

When I'm craving for some chinese/japanese fast food, I come to Rickshaw Corner.
The service is nice and the restaurant is affordable and convenient. It's a family run business and the staff is limited. There could be a bit of a wait on their busier nights.
Some of my favorites are the honey walnut shrimp (extra crispy). I love that they don't use a thick mayo sauce. Other favorites: yakisoba, rickshaw rolls, and their mixed veggies. -

Went here last night after hearing about it at work. Beef chow fun=YUM! General Tso's chicken= the pieces are huge and flavorful. I didn't care much for the fried rice that is served with it. They also included a box full of free spring rolls and crab and cheese wontons. Loved their sweet and sour sauce. It's a real hole in the wall but i will be going back the next time i'm craving some chinese.
Only down fall is how long i waited for the food. After placing the order i was there to pick it up after about 20 min and waited an additional 20 or so minutes to receive my food. So four stars it is. -

We ordered take-out from here a couple nights ago, so I can't say anything about the interior or dining experience.
Let me just say, my boyfriend Ryan and I ordered so much food for the 2 of us they gave us 6 fortune cookies. Sad but true.
the Chicken Corn soup- Really good. My 4 yr old loved it, which says a lot. It is a decent size for the price, too.
the hot and sour soup-Ryan wasn't a fan. He said it was watered down and he kept finding hard things in it, which made me reluctant to try it, so I didn't.
the black bean chicken- soooooooooooo good!!! Chicken in a black bean sauce with big slices of zucchini, green peppers, slices of garlic, and onion. The veggies were still a little crisp, which was nice. Super spicy! it crept up on my tastebuds
the black pepper beef- also delicious. came with green peppers.
spicy dumpling- KICKASS. GET THEM. that's all i have to say about those.
green onion pancakes- worth trying. a little weird, but yummy. my daughter was a huge fan of these.
Also, you can add an eggroll, cheese wonton, soup, AND rice to your meal for only $2, which i think is a darn good deal.
All that food, $35.
I will eat here again, definately. This and Buds Louisiana Cafe are my new local loves.
oh, and PS...I didn't order anything off the Japanese menu...and after reading some of these reviews, i'm gonna stick with the chinese I think. -

I have known Nancy, The Manager at Rickshaw, for many years. Being right next door at JPs Pub, I have had many opportunities to dine on the fine food she has to offer.
My Personal Favorite: Paper Wrapped Chicken
I can also say there is a large number of City Workers that go to Rickshaw during the lunch hour whether it be the Water Department, or some of San Diego's Finest in uniform.. Now i don't know if that necessarily means their taste buds are any better than the next average joe, but you can bet it means they do business right!
Rickshaw gets thumbs up from me, and if you go there often enough, or if you order a generous helping, don't be surprised if you get a free cup of soup with your order=) -

I've had better but in a pinch it does its job of satisfying the msg craving. I ordered delivery and they were fairly fast. The yakisoba, Orange chicken, and spicy won tons weren't half bad. The house fried rice tasted a little scorched. I also ordered a Crunch Roll off their Japanese menu and it was as basic as they come. The eel wasn't top grade or anything but like I said it'll do in a pinch. Would I go out of my way for this place? Eff no! To me, chinese is rarely done right. Seeing as though my lazy ass didn't want to get out and go get some quality food this was just fine.

I love this little hole in the wall. I've been here 3 times and each time the food was fantastic! Granted, it's not the best but it is tasty!
I don't quite get the aquarium filled with fortune cookie notes, but its an interesting touch.
The bathroom is a pain in the patootie. You have to leave the restaurant, walk all the way around it to the dark back, through the garbage & locked storage back there.
What did bother me was our waitress, who though nice was very ho-hum. Yet a group of obviously regulars came in and she lit up like the NY Christmas tree. Running to serve them, all smiles, quick service....All young kids, two who only ordered water. How great could their tip have been?
Heck, if you treated me like that, I'd be your regular, too!
Update - went again a few nights ago. General Tso's chicken was yummy. They didn't seem super busy, but service was unbelievably slow and a few people walked out. The inconvenience of the bathroom was more evident as it was pouring outside and freezing cold. -

Well, we finally went back for the first time in awhile. Same crew, same style. The Chinese food was good, and I have to believe that they're just casual in character. Maybe I was expecting American exactness out of street market-natured staff, and I should just sit back and chill a little more. Okay, I give. :)

The nasiest chinese/japanese food ive ever eaten!!!! i ordered take out to be delivered and it took a whole hour for us to get it and we only live about 3 min down the street. Ordered egg drop soup, and i have no clue of all the extra things they put in it, ordered some california rolls and they were so sloppy looking and like a slither of imitation crab and the roll was just gross i had better rolls from a grocery store, ordered combo chow mein and the chicken was so fatty i seriously had to spit out almost every piece of chicken i ate cuz it was so fatty, the only thing that was somewhat okay was the chicken fried rice but i still barely ate any of that either because it also had the fatty chicken in it. This place needs to care more about the presentation of there food. I will never eat here again and would never recommend it to anyone either!!!

If you're a fan of Chinese food, check this place out. Reasonable prices, great portions, and delicious food.
This place is right up the street from my work and I'd driven by it a few times, so I thought I'd finally check it out. The interior was nice, quiet music playing and some sweet Chinese art. One thing that caught my attention immediately was that they had real chopsticks! I'm a fan of using chopsticks, and still wonder why when you go into sit-down restaurants, they have ceramic plates and metal silverware, and then hand you wooden, single-use chopsticks. So this made me happy.
Sushi is my favorite food, closely followed by Chinese food, so this place got me excited. They had a somewhat meek offering of Japanese food compared to Chinese, so I decided to go with a California roll for an appitizer and then the House chow-mein with beef, chicken and shrimp.
The California roll was disappointing, I felt like the taste and quality I could have gotten from most grocery store sushi packs. Still, it was sushi, and definitely good. The chow-mein was kick ass, plenty of meat and great taste all around. There were a few pieces of fat left on the chicken and beef, and though I don't mind that, I know some people it bothers, so just a heads up. I just think it gives the meat more taste, but whatever.
Considering my sushi and other reviews, I'd tell Japanese food lovers to steer clear. Their large Chinese menu more than makes up for this though, I'd tell everyone to come over and check it out. -

We love to get our carry-out Chinese or Japanese food at Rickshaw Corner. The sauces have more personality than at many other Asian restaurants, even the posh ones. We like that little extra punch. For example, their Teriyaki sauce has a zingy sesame flavor and they give you plenty. Their dishes have more veggies--many of them crispy.
They've been at the same location, like, forever... they're surely doing something right. We don't usually eat in, since the ambience is "just okay." The aquarium used to have genuine fish in it, but no more... the folks aren't chatty, not sure how good their English is...
They will deliver within a limited area, with a minimum purchase. -

This is a pretty decent neighborhood Chinese/Japanese restaurant. Some of my family's favorites include the:
- Chow Ma soup
- Rickshaw Roll
- Garlic Chicken
- 3 Ingredient Fried Rice
- Wonton Soup
- Walnut Shrimp
The Chow Ma is enormous and can get to be very spicy. The Rickshaw Roll is like a shrimp tempura sushi roll but with cream cheese (optional). The garlic chicken is made with white meat chicken and has a tasty brown garlic sauce. The 3 ingredient fried rice is always served hot and fresh. The wonton soup varies in consistency depending on who makes it but the wontons are always very good. The walnut shrimp is a friend's personal favorite.
All in all this is an affordable and convenient restaurant. They use a very limited staff and I have witnessed patrons become especially irritated over wait times (particularly for call-in orders). If you do call in for an order, or wish to eat-in during a peek meal hour you likely will receive delayed service. My advice is to not take it personally and realize the person serving you may also be your chef.... -

Largely, they sell goop. So if you go for that sweet and sour or orange chicken type of Chinese, you'll fit in nicely. I do like their Hot and Sour soup though.

i've only been here once, but the person i went with RAVED about this place and practically slobbered all over himself as he talked about their walnut shrimp.
and he was right. the shrimp were HUGEEEEE and delicious! yum. i got a unagi rice bowl which was also really good, they gave me plenty of unagi for which i was grateful.
they were super nice, because we went in about 15 minutes before closing time and they didn't harass us to leave or anything, they let us eat and finish up and gave us good service, refilling our water and stuff.
from what i remember, the prices were reasonable (rice bowl around 7 bucks, big plate of walnut shrimp around 10?) -

This is such a hole in the wall place, but we love it!! The prices are standard compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. For the prices we get a lot of food and they're nice portions. The food is a bit greasy, but that is expected with Chinese food. The flavor is perfect for our liking.

Do NOT go here and order any of the "japanese" food on the menu... it's NOT authentic at all. I have a feeling that the chinese food is much better but I can't bring myself to eat there again after ordering what they call japanese food. One day... someday... maybe I'll go back... maybe then I'll change my rating.

This place is great, I eat here for lunch alot, However, don't order the Japanese Pork Katsu, YIKES it is hands down the worst thing I've ever had in any resturant, the "Pork chop" looked as if the cook found it in a box that had been there for years, and that I was the first person to order it so he or she had to cook it and serve it, I took one bite and just put it to the side, and I am in no way a picky eater. everything else is great heance the 4 stars

My parents always ordered take-out from this place and the food was always pretty good. I recently got the chance to eat at the place itself and the place wasn't really as how I expected it but the food was still just as good. Pretty tasty food and easy on the wallet!
