Review from Katrina R.
Burnaby, BC
It was a nice day, so the large sliding door was open to let fresh air in. The place was mostly empty, but we were told that it gets pretty crowded in the evening with the "younger" crowd-- UFC is supposed to be popular here.
Good prices on drinks; a caesar and a pint of Kokanee was $9.25.
Apparently the menu is in a transition period, so we got sheets of paper with the specials written in marker and badly photocopied. Pretty embarrassing, actually. When we made a comment about the menus to the server, she mentioned that the owner doesn't want to put any money in the pub and is planning to sell it.
We decided to skip the food.
The server was nice, and the place was clean. We may be back, assuming the place will still be here, when it gets a bit more organized. -
Review from Albert W.
"Let's go to Richmond Public Market for a drink," said our hero to his brother.
"What? There's a bar there?"
Yep. Nestled between Asian shops and away from the main "front" side of Richmond Public Market on Westminster Highway is a well kept "secret" bar. Formerly called "The Garage" due to its garage style patio doors that would open up for fresh air on days when it wasn't raining, this bar has changed a bit (and lost the garage door). Lots of seating, a vending machine for "hot nuts", a single pool table, some pinball machines, and a couple of TVs make this a comfortable and generic sort of bar.
This neighborhood bar is a lot less visible than other street corner bars in central Richmond such as the Foggy Dew or Legends Pub. As such, it also has less douchebags and their associated shenanigans and impromptu bouts of street fisticuffs.
PROS:
- Really reasonable prices: $10 for a pitcher of their house beer, $3 hi-balls, and 25 cent wings on random days of the week.
- Friendly bartender that is patient and will give you a sample of their house beer if you haven't tried it before.
CONS:
- Their TVs seem to have a strange progressive scan glitch where a visible line can be seen moving up and down the screen.
- Last call came pretty early on the weekend at midnight.
