For those of us (ahem, me) who aren't down with using the Grind as a relaxing way to catch up with friends while taking a leisurely stroll (read scaling a mountain), Rice Lake might be the right alternative. Put on your flip flops, ditch the sunscreen, forget the water... Rice Lake is easy breezy. Located just north of the North Vancouver cemetery, and over endless speed bumps, inside the Lower Seymour Reserve, Rice Lake makes for an easy afternoon stroll with friends. With peek-a-boo glimpses of the lake, a wide path and lots of shade, you can enjoy the outdoors without sweating too much.

The little picnic benches that line the lake would make for a nice picnic spot while the long dock gets you full sun. If you bring fishing gear along you can "sport fish," great for some kiddies. Keep in mind as we head into summer, they don't stock the lake in July and August, but isn't fishing about endless waiting and learning patience anyway?

Good bonus - there's lots of parking, water fountains and toilets.

    Ah, summer. Welcome, welcome!
