Okay so if you can find this place don't be scared; it does look like a whole in the wall but the food is really great! This is a new place for me; Curtis introduced me to it. I kind of felt overwhelmed with all the options they had on the menu and the guy, can't remember his name, behind the counter rocked. He was really excited to help us out when it came to ordering. He told us which dishes were popular amount the masses and which ones he personally enjoyed. Curtis loves the Teriyaki Beef Bowl with; of course, extra beef and I loved my Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. You don't pay a lot; the bowls run as low as $6.99 and the amount of food you get is crazy! We never finish what we order; lunch for the next day! I really want to try the chicken satay bowl and the jumbo coconut shrimp bowl, oh and the green onion cake and the crispy squid! So much to try!
They also have bubble tea. If you don't know which kind to get the guy can give you a sample. Curtis has tried almost all of them and so far he has not come across one that he does not like. I've only had a chance to try the Strawberry and it was pretty good. It fills you up along with the food. You can have a choice between pearls or jellies for the bubble part of the tea; I'm not sure which is better so many ask Curtis or the guys behind the counter! -

Located about the liquor store, this is a 2nd floor hole in the wall. I have passed by this location numerous times, and one day I decided to take the plunge. Wow am I glad I did.
I had a huge craving for meat, so I had their Japanese NY steak with extra meat... and I was very satisfied. The NY steak was cooked just right- not too tough and not too bloody. It had a nice accompaniment of assorted asian vegetables, and the rice was freshly steamed. It took about 15 minutes to prepare this order, but this assured me that they cooked everything fresh. If you peer past the counter, you can even see them preparing your meal. There is a huge selection of meals to choose from, as the other reviewers have already mentioned, and it can take a while to decide as everything looks delicious!
This location is quite small and there are very few seats, but you could get away with eating your meal here. The steak bowl was $8.50 plus $3 for the extra meat, but it was well worth it. In terms of "take out" Asian food, this is one of the best restaurants. I will definitely be coming back soon! -

Im a sucker for quick Asian takeout and was very excited to see this place in my neighborhood. I walked in starving one Saturday afternoon and quickly decided on a Korean BBQ rib bowl. If you forget the part about being "express", then this restaurant was really good. The food took quite a while to cook, although it was all cooked fresh. The portion size was quite big for 8$ and the food was great once I got it! The BBQ ribs were sweet and meaty and the rice and steamed noodles were a nice complement. I couldn't eat the whole portion and saved some for later. They have a customer card that you can get stamped every time you get a bowl and then the 8th one is free. They also have bubble tea, but to me thats a meal on its own so I will have to check that out next time I'm in the area!

I have been to this little eatery twice: once to get a bubble tea, and second time around to grab a dinner to go. The bubble tea at Rice Bowl Express is not good. Tapioca beans were frozen, came in clutters, and were getting stuck in the straw. I asked for mango flavour, and only 10 minutes later I was informed that they were all out of mango bubble tea. I changed my order to passion fruit, and it took another 10 minutes for it to be ready. The taste, as I have already mentioned, wasn't good.
Since bad bubble tea is not a complete deal breaker, I came back to Rice Bowl Express hoping to get a good meal because everything on the menu looked delicious. This time I wasn't disappointed. I have ordered a bowl of rice with salmon and vegetables for my husband, and jumbo coconut shrimp and an order of vegetable spring roles for myself. Everything was beyond fresh! Rice Bowl Express chefs take well-known and loved classics, and put a little spin on them. Pineapple sauce for the spring rolls was unusual and very refreshing; and it also tasted home made. Breaded salmon was light and crispy; and piece of bok choy provided a nice relief from same old-same old broccoli pieces that often accompany similar dishes at other Asian restaurants. Coconut shrimp was equally delicious, and went especially well with the dipping sauce.
From now on, I will be viewing Rice Bowl Express as THE place to get fantastic Asian food at...I will just skip the bubble tea here. -

This is an excellent new rice bowl takeout restaurant in the west end. Although it is sort of out of the way by being up two flights of stairs above a liquor store, it is worth the climb. The quality and ingredients in these bowls are a step above other similar fast food rice bowls. There are a few plain tables and chairs in the small space if you want to eat there. A noted chef designed the bowls to be healthy and unique, and he was successful in his endeavour. Some of the choices include teriyaki chicken or beef, Korean barbecue ribs, chicken and beef satay, butter chicken, steak, and salmon. The salmon is lightly pan fried and delicious. The Japanese Steak is small but thick, and can be made to order. There are a few vegetarian items like a veggie rice bowl, green onion cakes, spring rolls, and a couple of salads. Bubble tea is now available here in a limited number of flavours, including a few fresh fruit varieties. You can get more meat in your bowl for a few dollars extra, and pick up dessert here too. Desserts are made in-store and there is a chocolate mousse that is absolutely decadent.

We are regulars here, and particularly love the Korean BBQ Beef Ribs and Crispy Squid. The homemade sauces are excellent, and the bubble tea is top notch. Although not fast-food quick, it is still usually pretty fast, less than 15 minutes for most orders, although best done as take out, as the restaurant lacks much for seating space or ambiance, though if you enjoy the Food Network, they always seem to have that on TV. Price is right on too, most of their bowls are around $8, and appetizers between $4 and $6.

this is a newish place I've just discovered in the west end. If you're heading down to the Whitemud on 149th and hunger strikes, Rice Bowl Express has a variety of delicious, healthy dishes to can take for the road. One of the chefs and owners is a former chef at Il Portico, so there's a high quality and flare to the assorted menu, which combines Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian and Vietnamese dishes. My favourites are the mango citrus shrimp bowl and the chicken satay bowl. You can also get butter chicken, Korean BBQ ribs, coconut shrip, Asian Caesar salad, green onion cakes and other tantalizing side orders. The place is pretty plain; just a white space where you can order and a back kitchen where you can see the food being prepared. All food is fresh and all sauces and dressing are homemade, and you can tell. It's miles apart from places like Wok Box and Noodle King. It's upstairs from Liquor Select, and the chef does the food for special wine events, both public and private. I've never had that bubble tea, or you like it, you can get it here.
