Review from Ben D.

Revolver is a store that sells used dvds, blue rays, cds and various music group paraphernalia (ex: t-shirts, patches, posters, etc.)
Revolver just edges out Roxx as the coolest store in Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre(which resembles a huge geriatric ward at times).
To those familiar with Supertunes located in Westmount Mall, Revolver is almost exactly the same, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same people own both stores. However, I prefer Revolver because they seem to have better selection and the employees there are nicer to deal with.
Sure, you could find some dvds here for cheaper in the bargin bins of Superstore or Zellers, but I really like coming here because every once in a while you find a rare title for a really good price. For example, I found an "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" dvd (laugh all you want, show me a red blooded guy who doesn't think she's hot) I was looking all over for, for only $5 here!
Luckily, all the titles are categorized and alphabetized so you won't lose your mind looking for a title you want.
Revolver is a neat store with a good vibe that plays cool music. It's worth stopping into if you're in Bonnie Doon. And who knows? You might just find that little rarity you've been looking for.
BTW, don't be put off by the heavily tattooed girls with multiple body piercings and self-inflicted body scars that work at Revolver. I didn't see them sink their teeth into anyones neck when I was there.......... Actually, they're pretty cool and friendly to deal with. -
Review from Jeff G.
If you've ever wondered if the Suicide Girls have a day job, then wonder no more. They work at Revolver in Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre. They're also über-pleasant and unreasonably happy to see you.
They have a fair-sized selection of vinyl here. Unfortunately most of it seems to be in less-than-desirable condition and it is all waaaay overpriced. Most of the records are used. They're all in protective sleeves but you can plainly see that the dust jackets are pretty beat-up. I don't even bother to visually inspect a record if its jacket is in crap condition. What's the point? As I said, the prices are ridiculous too. It averages 15 to 20 bucks for a used, beat-up album. The used stuff covers all genres from country to metal.
The new vinyl that they sell seems to be all punk and metal. The prices for the new stuff is average and on par with the rest of the record shops in the city. Revolver doesn't separate their new and used albums so if you're in the market for only new stuff, it's honestly a pain in the ass to sort through everything. They have a pretty decent collection of new and reissued 7" punk singles. Probably better than anywhere else in the city.
They have used CDs and DVD/Blu-rays too but like Ben D pointed out in his review, you can find the same titles brand new for a cheaper price in the discount bins at the big box stores. There's actually an HMV in this mall too if you want to compare. The average price for a used CD at Revolver is around $10. Too much.
I feel kind of bad for the negative review because the staff is so cool. But whatever...the store kind of sucks.Listed in: Edmonton Record Store Crawl
