This was my second Elite event as a "+1". It was super fun! Thanks for organizing this and thanks to all the nice people that actually talked to me.

The food was actually really really good. I love rotis and I actually liked the bite size ones. I usually get a roti and cannot finish the whole thing not leaving room for anything else.

Thanks again. I look forward to becoming elite one day. :)

    Must write more reviews...

A night that allowed you to get truly close and intimate with your fellow Yelpers. We're all old friends by now. What's a little frottage 2.0 between virtual friends? I'm looking at you, Tony.

Food and drink flowed nicely for two hours. A great selection of booze. The curried wraps were welcome. I popped down to the main floor to get an off Yelp menu latte for my cramping +1 and they didn't even charge me for it. Awesome.

Lots of Yelpers bringing +1s not within the Yelp fold this time around. I think we're getting the hang of the +1 idea. It's about the viral thing.

Vivek had a pretty big pair of shoes to fill (metaphorically, Kat, I'm not suggesting you have big feet... no I don't think those shoes make your feet look big... why are we even having this discussion now? Oh yeah, well, I never loved you pot roast anyway! I just said that to get free Yelp SWAG! That's it! The wedding is OFF! AGAIN! FINE! I'M CALLING THE CATER RIGHT NOW. JUST WATCH ME!) ummmm what was I saying? Right. Vivek turned it out.

    So long...angel of Harlem
    Angel of Harlem

But I will not admit to any kind of frottage, at least between me and Karl.  It must have been another Tony.

Elite events are becoming like family reunions for me now.  I get to see some familiar faces, that crazy uncle (looking at you Karl), the drunken cousin [the Stephs], and the whacky Aunts (Lauren & Roma), but you love them all the same.  Then there's the new faces you welcome to the family.

The drink selection was Steam Whistle, Rum Punch and a Pinot Grigio. I was hoping to try some of Harlem's "Soul/Cajun" food, but I'm not sure when spring rolls and dumplings became that.  I guess I have more soul than I thought.

Then there was the flute guy.  I was not expecting to hear Word Up by Cameo on the flute.  The only flutist I've seen better was that hip hop flute guy (google him).

Congrats to Vivek for putting on a kick-ass-kicking party.

Props to Vivek; this party rocked!

The room was jam-packed when I arrived, but the booze was still easily accessible and it was great to meet so many yelpers.  A lot has been said about the flautist, and well, he deserves it - that guy was incredible.

Bonus points to Hana B. for leading the after-party to Duggan's. Though it was a fucking douchefest, free Duggan's beer (plus fun hats and suspenders!) are a helluva way to cap off the night.

When it comes to meeting so many Yelpers new & old, this has to be the BEST Yelp event(1st Elite) I've attended thus far and there wasn't even Coffee or Noodles.  The original entourage, I will definitely catch you guys at a work-in-progress UYE.  You Yelps are completely plan-crazy and I love you for it.

The new crew was a complete pleasure as well and would be glad to be in your entourage anytime/anyday.  A few I had the pleasure to rub elbows with were Ariel G, Kent P, Brian. K, Will H, Marie M.  A note was that the Rihanna look-alike bartender had some great smelling chow as she ate at the end of night.

I'm WaYnE, I'm in Harlem, I'm with my man B(ijan)... and I'm with my man D(evan).  A special thanks to the producer -----Vivek S.-----

Well Vivek certainly pulled off his first Elite event in fine form. The location was great, the libations plentiful, and the people were awesome.

This was a great opportunity to reunite with some of the Elite's that I don't get to see regularly since it's been so long since the last Elite event. Also it was great to see many new faces. I want to give a shout out to Jennifer M. who was at her first Elite event and was great to chat with.

See you all at the next one!

He's climbin' in yo windows, he's snatching you Yelpers up; Vivek is throwing awesome Elite partays!

Only 4 stars people??? You are so dumb. You are really dumb. For real. Were we even at the same party???

Well, obviously, I know how to put the PUNCH in rum punch (right Payam?) Tell your friend I'm lookin' for him. I'm gon' find him. He don't have to come and confess.

Jokes aside, dancing to R&B music with live flautist = awesome. Upstairs at Harlem was such a perfect intimate venue to squeeze in and catch up with old Yelpers plus meet some new ones. Food, booze and decor were all A+.

So you can run and tell that, homeboy.

    Wow!

First timer or an old timer, by any standards Vivek, you know how to throw a party! Firstly, the room was gorgeous and perfect for the size of people we had, a little squish adds to the party atmosphere. I only party in pretty rooms. Kidding but, the décor was incredible and lush with a swag lounge in the back, completed by some Yelp balloons (ahem, ahem).

The drinks were flowing and I never had to wait too long for a drink or to get attention. That bartender knew how to make a hearty Rum Punch! Tried the wine too- delicious, though I'm no sommelier.

And the food! Dayuuuum, I wish I hadn't had a bite to eat before! The selection seemed very fine-tuned and thought over. We got crunchy, fried, wrapped, everything! Even Nicole B., a self confessed roti snob said the chicken and potato roti was a good one. You could have definitely come on an empty stomach and been filled up by amazingness within the first half hour.

Now, that flutist. I really admire him. Can you imagine how much balls it takes to get up on a stage alone and flute solo along to "Jenny from the Block", Jennifer Lopez? And he did a great job with it and every other song he did! It was a fun part of the evening for me to remind myself, "Hey, there's a flutist jamming out with Kanye right now".

I had an extremely useful, funny and cool night. It was made by the people, the food, the drink, the music and all else that makes up the atmosphere. I simply cannot wait for the next one. Tomorrow, anyone?

This is my favorite elite event yet! Below are my reasons why:

    1. I got to meet many elites that I hadn't met before, including Jennifer M and Val G
    2. Catching up with people I hadn't seen in a while, since I hadn't been to an elite event since the hot coffee shop of the Summer of '10 - calling out to Devan, Hana, Chris P and Neil T
    3. Even though it was crowded, no one minded. Everyone was very polite and not pushy even when pushing their way through the crowd
    4. The flutist! (sp?)
    5. LOTS of food. I ate beforehand, so didn't try a lot of it, but those rotis sure smelled good and they were HUGE!
    6. Nice selection of free drinks that were pretty easy to access.
    7. Great server! He was super nice, and had a great Portuguese accent and made sure everyone was well-fed

Sorry I didn't stay longer. I sprained my ankle last weekend and needed to sit down, so that's my excuse for being lame.

Great party! Can't wait to see what Vivek dreams up next. He has certainly started strong.

Whoa, events are getting BIG! Vivek seems to rock and be so popular (I'd give him a trophy for "most stylish yelper")  that we couldn't barely fit the second floor or Harlem.

The food there is freakin' awesome, I didn't had dinner before and ate all sort of appetizers they served, everything was delicious! I was very careful with that Rum Punch, because I was biking back home. Sweet girly drink, you know how dangerous this can be, eh?

I didn't like the bartender. She was not even close to friendly as my beloved Colin at Fire on The East Side (probably the most friendly bartender I've ever experienced - I even remember his name). I usually smile and talk to bartenders and she was so cold.... No thanks.

I'd like to thank the Yelp Academy for everything, for keeping us together and being so cool! I love you guys!

    P.S.: LET'S DO YOGA!

Awesome event... Only complaint was that it was too packed. Hard to navigate from one end to the other or grab a drink, but it opened up as time went on and flowed nicer.

First time at Harlem but was always meaning to go. The owner (Carl Allen) is a legend in Toronto, so it was a nice look having a Yelp event there and definitely the best soundtrack thus far. The flute to Mark Morrison and Beatnuts instrumentals was cool, but I like the mix they threw on afterwards: can't go wrong with the Gap Band and Dennis Edwards!

Didn't really try any of the food but I did grab a spring roll at one point and it was mad delicious. Rum punch was also very excellent. And yes, the bartender was beautiful. Nice one, Vivek!

A tonne of new faces last night and I'm guessing that had more to do with the elite event drought than anything else.

This was an interesting event for a number of reasons and I'm glad I was able to take part. Vivek put on a great party. The room was interesting but perhaps a bit small. We had a flute player accompanying the Beat Nuts (on iPod). All and all it seemed like everyone had a good time.

Thanks to Harlem for setting that stage and thanks to Vivek for a great party and keeping our community lively.

Where do I even start... wait I know, a solo FLUTIST playing to hip hop!? That started off the party perfectly and set the tone for the awesomeness to come.

I felt like I was back at one of the first Yelp Elite events, meeting everyone for the first time (Melinda, Joe, Wayne) and obviously finally getting some old timers back into play (Jay and Kat - P.S. We did it Jay, we did it). It was an awesome night with great drinks and great food (big thanks to Pedro for dealing with the slightly intoxicated Yelpers attempting to unsuccessfully grab food of the plate - and no I swear it wasn't me!).

Big thanks to Vivek for an awesome first and for many more to come!

Danielle, after tonight I have a feeling UYDE's are going to be extremely sloppy!

Good people, good drinks, good food, and flute covers.
    The bestest.

After taking a summer Yelp hiatus it was so great to see everyone's smiling beautiful faces! And so many new cool kids! A great turn out!

It was my first Elite event where I wasn't at the door checking people in, but Crystal did an unreal job and hooked me up with mints even after she had put them away! How nice is that?!

Also nice? How the Rihanna-esque bartender poured wine to the tippy top of the glass. As new intern Danielle said, "You really do get some bang for your buck!" Indeed Danielle. Indeed.

Now the food. Dude. It was freaking delicious. Those shrimps? YUM! Major props for having the food not hidden! Nice filling rotations of snacks whenever you need em! Yay!

The highlight of the night? Flute covers jamming funky guy. Roses, Rude Boy, Scrubs, we sang along to them all as he jazzed it up on his flute. And it was oh so awesome. A hit to say the least.

Vivek! Congrats! Unreal and amazing party! And thanks to Danielle for the invite! I gotta get back to Yelping more...

How funny is it that while all the men at this event were lusting after our fabulous bartender/Rhianna lookalike she finished her evening with myself and the fabulous Nicole B. Sorry boys.
While swilling drinks with Raven (Rhianna) and Nicole at the Reservoir Lounge was the end of my stellar night the beginning and middle were just as amazing. All thanks to the lovely folks in attendance and the hardworking Vivek, our illustrious new leader.

Tonight Harlem was filled with rum punch and a wild assortment of amazing wonderful people. The hours flew by with a cornucopia of delectable goodies, astonishing laughs and a startling jazz flute montage, the likes of which I will likely never witness again. While the room was a bit crowded, when you are bumping bums with the cream of the crop who's to complain. Especially since Harlem had an air conditioner to cool the jazzed up temp.

The wait staff were amazing, and as I mentioned before "Rhianna" ended up with myself and Nicole B, so obviously we hit it off. The rest of the crew worked tirelessly to clear the punch goblets and bring 'round the goodies. I personally can't speak to the tastiness of the victuals, as I was much too intent on the conversation, oh and the rum. Did I say there was rum punch!??

As venues go this was a perfectly private yet public place, but was a little narrow side, I will definitely be back, to sample the wares and maybe see if there is another stellar musician who can play the oboe along with the Fugees. Maybe not...

Bottom line...I can't remember what life was like before Yelp, but I just keep thanking my lucky stars that they like to spend their advertising money on people like me.

You know when you go to a party, and in the next day *that* friend that couldn't go calls you to know how it was? Well, if this happened today I would have to answer:

    - DUDE, EEEEEVERYBODY WAS THERE.

Yes indeed. And it was so packed I could barely move. Toronto 'leetmaster Vivek did it again. Well played, sir.

The appetizers were pretty good and I'm definitely coming back to Harlem to have a proper dinner and write a proper review. The rum punch was as good as it gets - strong and deceiving. You think you're pretty OK and two sips later you're in wasteland speaking with pink elephants.

I'm still not elite though, so I'm probably changing my name to The Infiltrator until I get my badge. :-)

I think I conquered most of the Yelp Elite Must Meet list.  Happy to be there for Vivek's first party. The experience was Super fun, and thanks to all of the Yelpers that made me feel really welcome. To all those I didn't have a chance to chat with, next time!

Venue, Staff all very nice. Food.. I only sampled the spring roll which was pretty standard. Definitely will revist Harlem to try their menu-offerings. Flutist! was a nice touch.

Being my first time at an elite event, vivek totally blasted my mind.  I came in kinda not really knowing what to expect and was pleasantly greeted with an amazing crowd of people and a kick-ass party.

Seriously when have you actually seen a person play jazz flute?  I mean besides Will Farrell in Anchorman.  This guy ROCKED.  I am seriously going to find out where else this guy is playing and bring everyone I know to come and watch him.  I think it'd be so much cooler though if he had a whole backup band with him to play the other parts of the song (ie. not an ipod).  But seriously... I want him to walk behind me and play a soundtrack to my life... summed up in jazz flute.

The food was kinda weird I guess.  I didn't really get the food samplers they had and what kind of "spanish harlem" it actually was.  The first two things I had were the dumplings and spring rolls...  This just kinda screamed hong kong alleyway instead of anything "spanish".  It kinda came together with the goat roti and the fried shrimp after though.

One thing about the battered shrimp though, it needs a lot more kick.  Like a big cajun face kicking dropkick of seasoning.  Bring on the heat, cause my soul wasn't feeling it.

And punch... wow. The actual punch mix was really good.  I never really have had that much of an assortment of punch really.  I'm kinda used to the red bottles of fairtree you used to get as a kid.  This stuff was a nice change.  And then came the rum... and boy did it come.  I'm not sure about everyone else, but it kinda hit you pretty hard.  Maybe they toned it down or I didn't "notice" it after, but I guess it got better on the 2nd and 3rd and 4th ones...

This was seriously an amazing time and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone again the next time around.  Cheers to a great time and great people!

ps.  is anyone else finding the mad lib napkins in their pockets and doing them at work?  just me?

It's been quite some time since I've been in touch with the yelp elite and it was far overdue.

The space was small but the long bar accompanied with the long narrow hallway allowed for easy mixing and mingling. I think the smaller the venue the more you are forced to interact with yelpers you've never seen before.

I've met more new elites at this event than any other elite event I've gone to. It was great to see many familiar faces and some new ones.

    The pop flute was amazzziinnnggg.

Nothing like a packed venue to make you realize that your strategic bar navigation skills are pretty rusty.  But just as well, the thought of being hung over the next day chasing after a toddler is... well... worse than being hung over.  For me, there was just enough tasty roti, shrimp, spring rolls and rum punch to keep it on an even keel.

Great to speak to some yelpers in real life again and hope to talk to more of you at future events!

Yeah...four stars.  It was good, but the other Elite parties really set the bar high.  Why was this four stars?

    1. I showed up late.  I guess I missed a lot of the early on greatness.  My bad.
    2. I didn't eat anything and only drank club soda.  My bad.
    3. Was great catching up with people -- Bijan, Melinda, Brian, Mel, Soukia, Payam, etc.
    4. Lots of new faces that I didn't get to really meet with.  My bad.
    5. Surprise guest appearance by Jay and Kat!
    6. Fucking fisheye lens.  My bad.
    7. Because of #1, I didn't really have that much time there.

That's it.  Good times all round, looking forward to the next one!  Let's make it sooner than later!

    Where do I begin...
well for starters, the delay of this review is justified as I managed to fracture my left pinkie (surprisingly insignificant in everyday life as I now realize) at some point in the night. The fact that I don't remember how it happened, and only started to feel the pain the next day is a testament to how epic this night was (oh how I hate that term).

The hip hop flutist was just pure genius and he definitely helped set the mood of the night. The bartenders and the tight space kept the people mingling, and Pedro somehow managed to squeeze through to provide everyone with little nibbles.

As if this wasn't good enough, the party continued at Duggan's with a late http://Break.com(?) Oktoberfest with more food and booze. Thanks to associates of CTV for helping yelp friends, though I'm a bit hazy with regards to how the invitation was extended. This is where things really started to fade, and I began to brown out (almost black out, credit to IASIP)and woke up the next day with a Bavarian flag as my cape.

Many many thanks to Vivek for making this happen. Also bigups to Devan for suggesting Duggan's. As usual it was great to see the familiar faces, Neil, Hana, Bijan, Jay, et al. and also fantastic to meet new ones such as Kent.

oh and I just remembered I gifted Neil a balloon. No ulterior motives my friend! I promise.

    anyways, SYOY

As always, a fully attended, loud and raucus affair! The music floated through the air and it wasn't until half way through my second glass of wine that I realized the floutist was live! Same great folks, same difficult to maneuver space. We need a Yelp party held in a huge warehouse some time. Same capacity, really big room.
The punch was just OK, the food supplied by Harlem was a little mix n match, too. I heard the Roti were hard to eat with your hands.
Vivek showed up in regal style with a suit and tie- thanks!

Rum punch? More like face punch!

My first Elite event was awesome and overwhelming. So many Yelpers! Holy smokes. It was great to see the folks I met at Vivek's first CMYE again, but also lovely to put faces to other names from the Yelp community, and also meet some new Yelpers & +1s. Thanks to Connie T & Stephanie C for gettin' crazy name-tag swapping style towards the end of my night.

Harlem as a venue has a lovely atmosphere and great drinks. The little bit of food I did try was okay (props to the servers/kitchen staff for making sure there was a vego option after a few of us enquired). I seriously loved the music, too - thanks, Jeff the Flautist, for rocking our night.

I think my only problem with the night was the size of the room combined with the amount of people - i'm too polite to mangle my way through the crowds to mingle so I did a lot of camping out in one or two spots. By the time it started thinning out I was on my way to losing my voice and headed home though. Next time, Yelpers! Thanks for the party Vivek! Looking forward to the next one.

Many things I really liked about this event:
    - Great location and facility, private room with our own WC
    - Very nice mix of long-standing Elites plus many new faces
    - I met more Yelpers than I normally would have... speaking to the person next to you was almost required since moving around was a challenge at times
    - We were served quickly
    - While I wouldn't have said there was alot of food, it came through consistently and I was never looking for it.
    - Service was professional and unobstrusive, yet friendly

    What could have been better
    - OK, it was packed.  Compounding this was the food was also stationed right at the bar... consider having the food in a different location than where people are getting their drinks!... Although I think its a good trend to have the place full, but not packed.
    - The food was good, not great though - to my taste.

    Well done Vivek!

Minus one star due to the fact that I was DD and only got to have one drink...but that drink sure packed a punch! Let's put it this way, it's supposed to have some pink colour...mine was clear!

Although the invite said to have dinner before, I was looking forward to sampling some yummy foods, what I got was dumplings, spring rolls and roti... only one of which was actually a good hand held snack.

But it was great to be out again, got to catch up with all the old elite folks and met some newbies as well, even ran into a dude that went to my high school!

Vivek, a great first event, looking forward to some more of them!

PS. Thanks for all the shoutouts about me showing up! I guess I am missed!

Super Fun people, sugary drinks that definitely packed a punch, cute bartender girl, yummy little tidbits to nosh on...

But most of all LOVED the music.

    Top-notch work Vivek!

The "Vivek" chant  needs to be made a regular edition to every event
It was nice to bring my +1 to see how awesome Yelp(ers) can be.

Nice to see old faces and new- some highlights:
    - Tony is apparently racist, so I had to walk away (j/k) and his +1 was ridiculously awesome at opening mints.  How did I not run into you two before in life?
    - Danielle is gonna institute UYIE, and if you don't know what that is then you ain't coo'
-Chris sassed me about loving butter.  I'm OVER it!
-Good to meet Bryan for the first time!  for the next coming events I WILL claim that "we go way back" and MIGHT pull out the, "we're tight [with crossed fingers motion]" because faking familiarity is how I roll.
-45 year old Mike and I are gonna rock the cask festivals (I don't care if you were kidding- I took the invitation very much seriously.- so be prepared for an annoying tag-along)
-Crystal!  you should be in Vancouver! you are confusing me!  Nice to have you in toronto now- Ironic that we had to meet on this side of the country
-And to the man of the night Vivek- you make a mighty speech that nobody heard but it doesn't matter because we know it was THAT good.

And if I forgot to mention you it was because I was distracted by the flautist that was rockin 'no scrubs'
like..seriously? did that JUST happen?  I didn't know how much I LOVED pop flautists until last nite! ps: I got his card and you SHOULD hire him for your next event.  and then invite me- http://www.jefkearns.com

Thanks to Harlem for pouring HEALTHY glasses of wine.  the fried food was heavy, but tasty and I'm glad that they didn't serve their famous fried chicken, actually- just gives me an excuse to come back to this place-
ps: cellophaned toothpicks are a MUST!  aahaa, j/k.  I would have bit into the toothpick in the roti regardless.  I'm not that bright.
