    Real armadillo purse.

I'm not really sure how continue my review after that.

Thriller shirts, leather coveralls, suede boots, petticoats.... they really do have it all.

Mostly 70's & 80's vintage items, although I did find my favourite 1950's bathing suit here a few years ago. So there are some pre-70's items to be found.
They've also got a ton of menswear! Lots of leather jackets, jeans, cowboy boots, and rock t-shirts. Not a cheap place to shop, but finding this stuff in thrift stores is pretty rare these days.

Who does this guy think he is? He must be made of money... He was completely rude when i went in and mentioned that the shirt I wanted was way too expensive (it was $70, used, and not worth the price tag).

He mentioned something like "You obviously haven't been to major clothing stores in a while", and I came back with "actually, I have been shopping all day".  He asked me what I bought, and I said jeans, belt, and a couple other things.  He then said, "they are made in Bangladesh or UAE.  We don't sell that crap in here.  Everything here is made in the USA".

So, I guess things made in the USA is far different from the UAE or Bangladesh.  Okay, I get it.  Was he getting into the issue of child slave labour? Quality? Or was he offended that I had the audacity of saying that his stuff wasn't worth buying for the price?  It is, after all, used clothing.  I just wanted to buy a darn shirt.  There wasn't a t-shirt there for under $40 as far as I could see.  As far as value, in a store such as this, you should at least put your client at ease and maybe justify why I am paying twice (or more) of other used clothing shops.  He didn't try to justify.

I was going to get into it with him but decided that he wasn't worth it.  Just like his store.

I went here instead: http://www.yelp.ca/biz....  They are having a moving sale, and found everything I wanted without the price tag.  Yes, made even in the USA.

I was surprised to find a plethora of vintage stores in downtown Vancouver.  So many choices---I ended up going to Retro Rock purely by geographic convenience.  It looked promising.

I was greeted by an employee who was cooler and more stylish than I could ever hope to be.  I saw all types of clothing sections to check out.  It was looking promising.

    Whoah.

They had a section of Members Only jackets!!  I remember my wine-colored Members Only jacket I used to sport in elementary school--I swore that thing as kid up until I was a gangly post-pubescent.  For some reason I thought I looked pretty fresh in that thing.

So yeah, I was ready to feel like a kid again.

    NOPE, not gonna happen.

Yeah, all of their Members Only jackets were a whopping $60!  I was expecting something atleast half that.  Reliving youth wasn't in my cards.

I did scans of more of my usual-vintage-sections (bowling shirts, sweaters, button-down shirts).  It felt like I was in boutique clothing store instead of a vintage store.

Needless to say, I high-tailed it out pronto.

I finally found a pair of chocolate-and-caramel brown pair of leather cowboy boots, in a size 8 1/2!

The well--organized store has a large open space to look for great finds in old t-shirts, dresses, sweaters, trainers, boots, and leather goods.  The items are easy to find, there are always sizes and really cool funky rock-and-roll inspired frocks. What else did I pick up there?  Two, plastic necklaces with crosses on the ends in white and red, and a striped, navy, red and white three-quarter length sweater.

They've always got some sort of sale going on so you're bound to find a good deal here, whether it be shoes or dresses going for half off.

I've walked away with some great finds from Retro Rock. There's the pink polka dot fifties dress that fit me perfectly - I was so happy with it that I was literally dancing in the changing stall. When I came out the clerk could tell that it was a perfect find. The best part? Only $20!

Everything is organized and easy to find so it eliminates alot of unnecessary digging, and the selection of items is vast. You can find pieces for pretty darn cheap like vintage tees and Chucks, but also some higher end pieces like bags, sweaters, and jackets.

The owner is chill and willing to talk deals if you ask nicely. I picked up three bags from him for $30 when he was charging them at $15+ each.

I dropped in here with some girlfriends pre-Halloween and Madonna concert. There were a lot of cool things that would have easily passed for 80's Madonna and doubled for a cool Halloween costume.

But none of us bought anything. Why? There were loads of cool possible-outfits that could have even been split up and integrated into regular daily wear. But we just couldn't bear to pay $100 for a second-hand dress. Not everything was $100, but it was all pretty expensive.

I guess when they say "vintage" instead of "second hand" you know you're going to pay extra for the hand-picked coolness of the items in store. We all left a bit sad that we don't have more disposable income to stock our tickle-trunks.

I would definitely recommend it for those who love vintage and have the cash to afford it.

Retro Rock, and  specifically this location of Retro Rock, is arguably the best of the hand picked high-end second hand stores in Vancouver. They don't cater simply to the $50+ pieces, but that's really where their skill lies.

I love the fact that large portions of this store are laid out by not only style, but also colour so if you've got the determination and ideas for a style, you can complete just about any outfit without all the rummaging usually associated with vintage shopping.

As other reviewers have mentioned the crown jewel of this Retro Rock is really the boots. It has one of the best selections of vintage cowboy boots I've ever seen, and I'm from Alberta. They really go out of their way to have every size and a few styles for each. They do tend to go way out of my intended price range, but man if you're determined for a nice worn-in boot head here immediately.

So yes, same story as most vintage in Vancouver: bring money. But here you get a solid, great selection and good quality interesting pieces for what you pay for.

They have a massive selection of Pendleton shirts for about 3x the price of any other vintage store in the area. Their furs are way too expensive and the faux are the same price as the real. Most of the designer stuff is fake but selling for the price of authentic.
If you're into band shirts, leather jackets and flannel shirts and are willing to blow a wad of cash, yeah, you'll find stuff. It's a guys vintage store, not much for the ladies in terms of skirts, dresses and jewellery.

I just moved to the Midtown area and love Retro Rock, which I just found behind the condo I just bought on Granville St. I like Polo, and Lacoste stuff and Retro Rock has lots of sweaters and tops by these lines in great shape. The prices are more than what you'd find at most vintage shops but the selection is much higher quality.

After looking for a specific outfit for a musician-themed party for weeks, I turned to Yelp for help and was directly to Retro Rock.  THANK YOU!  Everything I needed (except the hat) was there, and the two staff members on hand today were very friendly and helpful, directing me to the right sections, and then recommending items, giving feedback on things as I tried them on.  What a great store!  Excellent selection of really groovy duds, in good shape, and with top-notch service to boot.  This will be my first stop next time.

Who DOESN'T need a pair of leprechaun-green suede over-all shorts? Think about it...pretty rad no?!  If they weren't a pretty penny, I'd be all over them in a heartbeat.  Besides this savvy gem, I found a couple of beautiful, vintage crinoline-skirted strapless gowns from era's ago.  I'm pretty tiny but these dresses fit like you needed a corset underneath!  Dang!  This Retro Rock is significantly larger than the one on Commercial and chock-full of some glam retro vintage frocks, t-shirts, jackets, corsets, cow-boy boots and gold lamme one-pieces.  Fab!  If you love labels and old-school goodies, Retro Rock is for you!

I don't get what the deal is with this store. Sure, it's "vintage" and "hand-picked" but who in their right mind would pay $50 for a pair of smelly old Chucks with yellowing rubber soles, or $35 for a ratty, pilly t-shirt? There are some more reasonably priced items, such as the selection of leather jackets, and the cowboy boots might be worth it, but the vast majority of clothing here is overpriced used crap that is perhaps slightly better than your average Sally Ann.
