I was doing so well. I had resisted the lure of this store for almost one month before I caved and made some purchases that really did not fit into my "backpacker" budget. But who said scummy travellers have to live without vintage gems like '80s sweatshirts and kitten heels? Practical? No. Addictive? Yes.
Having moved into the neighbourhood and being a mere 5 minutes stroll from the doorstep of this shop I think I did well to hold out as long as I did. The prices in this store are great, considering the merchandise is a fairly well selected collection, not a thrift store that requires the commitment to thoroughly search through it for hours to find something you like. Someone with a good eye has really taken the guess work out of it for you.
I found a great leather jacket for $80, which has that perfect amount of wear to it so it doesn't scream "I'm brand new!!", a cute 80s mini-dress with bat-wing sleeves and a off-the shoulder sweatshirt, all for $110. The very friendly shop assistant knocked $20 off the total price for me and was super helpful. I can't wait to go back to check out their bags and cowboy boots.
This store is totally my new neighbourhood sweetheart. -

Even though this is the smaller version of the two Retro Rock's in Vancouver (the other being on Davie and, erm, Howe?) I've actually had a fair bit of success in finding things that are not only pretty damn cool but I actually wear on a regular basis (that's the true test isn't it?).
Prices are fair and they are definitely willing to knock off 10% - 15% off most things. That's if you ask correctly -- it's all in the delivery. That's the beauty of vintage shops is that their mark-up is high enough that they are willing to give discounts especially if you buy multiple items and put together a bit of a package deal.
A lot of stuff for guys here which is nice especially since the majority of the vintage clothing shops on The Drive tend to cater towards women. Service is good too. Thumbs up! -

I'm a sucker for vintage shops and moving to Vancouver only helped fuel my addiction. The t-shirts are fantastic enough to keep you coming back, Oh! the collection you could rack up. Take your pick from, you guessed it, vintage Aerosmith and Metallica gems, along with some oldie but goodie shirts with sayings like, 'this is the shirt I wear when I'm laying around on the couch" or something to that effect. Genius, no?!
