Existing in the shadow of the Chateau Frontenac at one of the most touristic corners in Canada, Gamberinus has a tough challenge in attempting to balance the needs of the tourist crowd with the needs of the upscale dinner. For the most part it succeeds.

The place has the bustle if an Italian restaurant with a greeting at the door by someone who is most likely the proprietor.

The table is nicely appointed and there is good separation between parties. The service is prompt. Unfortunately the service has a heavy dose of marketing with phrases like: "Are you sure you don't want an appetizer?" "Will the veal be enough of a meal?" "Surely you will be wanting dessert?" This was just on the edge of unpleasant.

The food was marvelous. The Caesar Salad had an in house dressing, the veal was tender and tasty with some nice veggies. The post dinner coffee was nice and strong.

The price was a bit expensive for the portions, so don't even think of this place for a cheap night out.

The staff are fluent in English if you are getting tired of language challenges. The horse-drawn carriage clip clopping by on the cobblestones somewhat made up for the lack of any privacy or view.

My partner and I went here for a Saturday night dinner.  We were amazed that we could get in without reservations and just happy to be eating after a busy day of touristing.  The location was fun as we sat outside and got to people watch on one of the last busy weekends of the summer.  The food was good, but seemed a bit overpriced even for Quebec.  The service was very friendly, but a bit slow and difficult to track down.  Overall it was a good experience, but not great enough to come back when there are so many restaurants to pick from in this area.
