Perched atop one of North America's oldest streets, Chez Rabelais does surprisingly well for such a touristy restaurant!

Service is great, location is more than amazing and the food is actually pretty good for a decent price (I've been gouged enough in Quebec city at touristy places haha).

I tried the 3 flavours of mussels (I tried the first three on the menu, I think it was poulette, marinar, and something else) and the only one I really liked was the red sauced one. The other ones were a bit weak but not bad. The pizza was really good and I enjoyed that, but the chicken Bruchette wasn't as we expected although again not bad.

Either way if you are looking to settle down at a place for lunch while you walk around in old Quebec, this is not a bad place to check out!

The location of this place is great, at the very top of Petit Champlain, a busy,  but beautiful touristy street with many restaurants and shops.  There is a lovely outdoor area to people-watch comers and goers stepping up and down the steep stairway.

We specifically went here though to try the 'Poutine' which was recommended on our guide book as a specialty treat of the area.  It is basically just french fries, topped with a mild bbq sauce and chedder cheese curds.  It was good, but I think I have a greater penchant for chilli cheese fries.  We also ordered two other small plates - a hamburger and a chicken wrap, both which came with fries, so it was kind of fries overload for us.  The drinks were decently-priced - about $5 for a glass of sangria.

We got rained on towards the end of our meal, luckily we were under an umbrella outside, but it was chaos for everyone sitting outside and trying to move their parties inside for the shade.  Even though the food is nothing spectacular,  I would recommend this place as a snack stop on your tourist trek.
