Review from Andrew d.
We search out German restaurants when we are on vacation. We don't write many reviews of them, however.
Restaurant Allemand is an acception.
The restaurant is off the beaten track and we stumbled upon it on a cold December night when walking from outside the Old City on our way back to our hotel.
The place was quiet (off tourist season) and we were only 1 of 3 tables occupied.
To warm up we ordered drinks and my wife had a Johnny Walker Black which was the size of three servings for around $6 bucks. I had a German beer which was delicious.
I ordered a beef broth soup with bits of crepe in it and my wife had a salad (petite salad - we don't speak French so looking at their takeout menu a few weeks after going we're not sure which one she had) - both of which we were very pleased with.
I had the schnitzel with potatoes and she had the goulash with spatzle. Both meals and sides were fantastic. Some of the best spatzle I have ever had and the only goulash I have ever liked.
We skipped dessert since we were so full.
A nearby table called 4 hours ahead of time and ordered a special for "a hardy apatite" Out came two pork loins on bone the size of a rugby ball. It smells amazing and we wanted to come back the next day to get it but we hadn't the time.
Worth going out of your way for - but fair warning , the close for about a month around Christmas so they can visit family back in Germany.
The meal was a fair price and the quality was outstanding (home made to order). We sat for a half hour after we had finished and spoke with the owner and staff. A very lovely evening.
