Review from David C.
I stayed in September with my wife. Me being a baseball fan didn't realize until I put the address in GPS that this may be the former Skydome Hotel. When we checked they upgraded us to a field view suite. That put in straight away center field. The Jays were ironically in Boston at the time. No games didn't matter the view was awesome and the multi leveled suite was spectacular. The free wi-fi in the lobby only meant a lot of time that was not spent exploring the surrounding area was spent in the lobby with the I-phone researching the local area.
i would recommed this hotel to any baseball fan weather the Jays are home or not but if there is some kind of event there and your lucky enough to have a field view suite even better. -

I recently stayed here for a baseball game at SkyDome. It's hard to believe the dome is over 20 years old as it seems like just yesterday Alan Thicke and Andrea Martin were lighting up the stage in "The Opening of SkyDome: A Celebration." For a 20 year old hotel, they've done a great job at keeping it up.
As a Marriott Elite member I was hoping to score an upgrade to a room that faced the ballpark. I called a few times prior to arrival, and at check in was denied the upgrade. My guess is that they don't upgrade to those rooms whenever there's an event. They did give me club level and club lounge, which is effectively worthless on the weekends as the lounge is closed.
Parking was a breeze as they share the Rogers Centre parking garage, and have a specific parking zone for hotel guests. Finding the garage entrance can be tough as it's at the opposite end of the Dome from the hotel.
My room was very spacious, and clean. The bed and bedding were very clean. I liked their ribbed towels, but the bathroom sink lacked a counter. The sink was too small to set up toiletries, but they did have a little table that helped some.
The hotel had a great choice of HD television channels on a nice big HDTV. I was pleased with the television offerings and the Internet speeds.
Service at the front desk was very pleasant only service issues I ran into we're repeatedly bad waiters at the restaurant for breakfast. Otherwise the stay was flawless, and I would return.
If you're a very light sleeper this may not be the hotel for you as there is literally nonstop rail traffic behind the hotel as Canada's busiest rail line is directly to the north. I heard trains at all hours, but I can sleep right through them. -

I have stayed in many, many Renaissance hotels as a platinum member of Marriott Rewards and this is one that fails to meet the standard of the brand. First and foremost, I was surprised at how dated the hotel was. The hotel was built in 1989, and while they claim to have performed a complete renovation in 2001, it is unapparent by the guest rooms.
My room was on the ninth floor and had a decent view. The room was neither small nor large; what struck me, however, was how sparsely it was furnished and decorated. The walls were a bright yellowish color that, with the carpet, created a very "old lady" feel in the room. I mention this because one of the great things about Renaissance hotels is their contemporary, modern edge and this hotel was anything but. The rooms were drab and boring.
The location was great, I suppose, if you are there for an event at the attached Rogers Centre Stadium. It is also a short distance from the CN Tower. I liked that there were convenience stores and restaurants all within walking distance. Unfortunately, the area in which the hotel is located lacks much character and shuts down at night, so if you want to go out drinking, etc., you will have to cab it to another part of town.
My interaction with the staff was pretty minimal. The hotel does not offer turndown service (so I was surprised by the four-star rating so many websites have assigned this hotel). If you drive, plan to park valet, which is pricey but really your only option. Marriott needs to dramatically renovate this hotel or change its brand designation. And this is most definitely no four-star hotel - it is at best three-star, and possibly two and a half. -

If you can afford it, Renaissance's bi-level suite is the best place to watch a game or concert. Went to see the Argonault lost last night (that's another story) in this room category.
Two big windows are facing the stadium giving you unobstructed view of what's happening on the field. At any time, 15 people can share the spots split between the first and second floor. Just a bit uncomfortable as you will be sitting on the bed or floor. An no people, bringing your own stool is not allowed. And it looks so uncool.
The room's layout is decent and can accommodate up to 15 people. There are two beds - a sofa bed and a queen size bed upstairs.
Inside the hotel is a restaurant.
So I am a fan of their suite and NOT sure about the other rooms. Check other Yelper's review about the hotel....they are more credible.
Shout out to Argonault: What happened????Listed in: Where I Watch!

No real complaints about this hotel. The GUESTS maybe, but not the hotel.
Stayed one night through priceline/hotwire for $99 and although this was listed as a 4-Star, I would say that is stretching the truth, but only a little bit. The $20 parking is no better/worse than any other place to park your car downtown, but at least its underground during horrible weather. Easily accessed from the hotel elevators
Front desk were really helpful and kind.
It was a little strange turning corners and walking down curved hallways to get to our room, but the room itself was huge, with a king-sized bed that was almost as comfortable as home.
Bathroom was equally as large. Clean with marble throughout but it was showing some age. Various products to use at your leisure.
Our view was of the southside train tracks, but who cares? You're not there to stare outta window.
In close proximity to any number of restaurants, Ent. District, shopping, etc.Listed in: Everybody go Hotel, Motel,…

Anyone who has ever been on a business trip knows that business trips aren't as fun as trips for pleasure. Actually, they're not really that much fun at all. But as a job candidate from south of the border seeking a position in the big bad city--I ended up staying here for my first night. Not by choice, but through the whim and chance of http://priceline.com. And for what I paid for (roughly $60 USD)--it turned out to be not a bad deal.
This place is all about business though. Located next to the Rogers Centre and the CN tower, it is in the middle of a corporate wasteland. The receptionist was friendly, and the rooms were quite nice and spacious, but business nice--not the Ritz. The only drawback was that my room faced a railyard so I can hear the trains roaring past every few minutes--thank God I brought my earplugs. The beds were pretty comfy though, and I was able to get a pretty decent amount of sleep.
So all in all, the Renaissance not a bad place to stay in downtown Toronto if you're here on business. But for a pleasure trip--I'd probably stay somewhere close to where the action is, such as Dundas Square. -

SUMMARY: Booking sites call this a four star property. I think that's a stretch. The hotel interior is showing signs of its age all over, and it should really be dropped a grade unless it gets renovated. There isn't much to write home about, and what's worse is the location is not ideal for sightseeing either.
ROOMS: I was on the ninth floor with a view that overlooks the entertainment district. The TV in the room wasn't even a plasma/LCD, and the carpet was uneven with visible stains in several areas. On the other hand, the bathroom was spacious with Aveda products.
SERVICE: The service was inconsistent. I had two front desk agents check me in. The first one didn't smile and then walked away mid process. Thankfully, a second agent resumed checking me in with a bit more hospitality. Later I returned to the front desk with a question, and Anna gave brilliant professional service. Thumbs up!
AMENITIES: The pool was larger than expected but felt very institutional and in need of some comforting décor in the room. The fitness center was bare bones, but apparently it's just temporary until the Rogers Center health club reopens. I was told guests can access that one in the future for free. There was comp WiFi in the lobby, which is always a perk.
LOCATION: Great location if you're going to the Rogers Center, but otherwise its southwest downtown location is a bit isolated from most other touristy areas. The entertainment district is a stone's throw away though.
CLEANLINESS: In addition to stains in the room carpet, there were other instances when cleanliness was not at four star standards. Old gum on the hallway floor, stains on the backs of lobby couches, dings and marks on the walls, spilled liquid spots in the elevator, and so on.
VALUE: The bottom line is you better have a really good rate if you're gonna stay here and be happy about it, unless of course you've got business at the Rogers Center. Hit up Hotwire or Priceline for this property, but cross your fingers you get one of the other four star hotels in downtown Toronto. -

Great, great value for your money. This hotel is right next door to the CN tower, and a 5-10 minute walk to the hot spots in downtown Toronto. If you are a baseball fan, you will love the fact that the restaurant and some of the rooms have a view overlooking the Blue Jays baseball stadium. Eating at the restaurant while there is a game going on is like having box seats to the game, but it's even better because you can come and go as you please. It's crazy that the restaurant isn't more crowded with fans, but I was able to find a table right next to the floor-to-ceiling windows while a game was going on against the Red Sox.
It is true the hallways are a little long, but it's seriously not a big deal. I can't believe people would have real issues with that.
The service is very good, and the staff was attentive to any questions or needs I had while staying here. I don't see a reason to stay anywhere else if I ever return to Toronto. -
Review from Julie D.
I love Marriott. I really do. And Renaissance is supposed to be the top of the pinnacle. But this place has seen better days. First, we got off to a bad start because when we checked in, we were told that they upgraded us to a suite. Upgraded to a suite in the past has always been a truly wonderful thing. But for some reason I felt uneasy. Like it was a trick. "What about my city view room", I said? "This is even better", I was told. Ha ha. Also, we were in for a hassle, because we booked 2 different packages, a standard room rate for one night and a "Blue Jays Baseball package" for the second night. We were told that after the first night we would need to come back to the desk to check out and check back in. Are you kidding me? Also, they were giving us a free food credit for our first night. Everyone know that when a hotel is throwing in free food, there is a reason. And that reason is generally hotel dumpiness.
As for the suite, it was located at the farthest most corner of the universe, I would estimate approximately 1/2 mile from the elevator. Plus the room was sorta bland, to boot. And to top that off, the huge over sized bedroom had an exceptional view of the railroad tracks. When I called the front desk to say I wanted my city view room back, I was told there were none available. Outrageous, especially since I have made my reservation months in advance. I didn't just wander in off the street begging for a room last minute. I had a reservation for a city view!!! So, after some whining, them not me, and being put on hold, someone managed to find a stadium view room. Being the good sport that I am, I said okay. A stadium view room is a great idea in theory. However, since our room was in the outfield, I highly doubt that we would be able to take in much of the action from our room. Also, here is an interesting fact. They close the lid on Roger's Centre. It's only opened for the baseball games. Which means, the view from your room includes no sky unless it's game time. For real. Plus, they use leaf blowers to clean the stand at 4 am. I know this for a fact. I witnessed it. Okay, first I heard it. You catch my drift.
Okay, enough about that already. Let's talk hotel condition. The lobby was very nice, of course. And the hotel restaurant looked good, too. Our room was clean. And fairly roomy. The carpet throughout the halls and the two rooms I saw, was very worn. Also, the curtains in our room was starting to sag and they were dusty. Come on, it's time to freshen this place up! For us, the best thing about the hotel was location. We had the valet take our car and we never saw it again until checkout. It was great being able to walk to the Blue Jays game and CN Tower and even down to the waterfront. And by using the subway and light rail, it wasn't too far from other places we wanted to visit. They just need to bring it up to the year 2010. Please. -

Funny, I totally disagree with others. Now, I did pay a much discounted price through priceline, so maybe my expectations differed, but it was a lovely hotel. The room was really nice and clean, super quiet (even next to elevator) and service was quick and helpful. The concierge was really very helpful and kind. The location was perfect for us, as visitors to the city. Oh, and the bed was soooo comphy. I would go there again.

This hotel has seen better days. I've stayed here in the mid-late 90's and the place was pristine and vibrant (didn't hurt that back then the Jays were a huge draw). Nowadays... lets just say the place is showing its age. The staff was pleasant so I can't really complain about the service. The location is still central to most of the places you want to hit up when in Toronto, with very easy access to the highway. This place reminds me of an aging supermodel, still has a few things going for her, but the best years are in the rear view mirror. Would I stay here again? I would consider it, but its hardly a slam dunk.

Stayed here once during a road trip to Toronto. If I had to choose, I wouldn't stay here again. It's really pricey, but it's not THAT special. My friends and I stayed here because our regular hotel was booked, and we got a great walk-up rate here. I will have to say it was ultra-cool to relax in our room while watching the Argonauts play. The fireworks that go off are a bit jarring though.
