Review from Joshua N.
*This review is for the Renaissance Coffee in the Academic Quadrangle building at SFU, not for the main store in the Cornerstone building.*
I'm sure a lot of the stuff they sell here is good, it certainly looks good. I'm sure their coffee is drinkable. But I only ever get one thing at this coffee kiosk, and that's the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Big Cookie.
For $2.15, the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Big Cookie can be yours. Baked fresh every morning, they are nearly as soft at 5pm as they are when they are first put on the shelf. Think $2.15 is too much for a cookie? Well it is. But in my case, this is a necessary pricing mechanism. If it were any cheaper I would eat myself into a diabetic coma with these things, I kid you not. Every time I buy one, including 30 minutes ago, I try to eat half and save half for later, but no dice. I think I finished this last one off in record time.
I've tried the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Big Cookie's cousins -- the Regular Chocolate Chip Big Cookie, the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Big Cookie, and the Oatmeal Pecan Big Cookie -- but they really just don't compare. Something about the combination of plentiful chocolate chips and crumbly oaty goodness makes the other Big Cookies seem like meh.Listed in: SFU Burnaby Mountain

Why do I bother drinking coffee from Renaissance Coffee?
I've been studying at SFU for years and I've always avoided Renaissance even though they (supposedly) brew JJ Bean coffee beans. Why? The food tastes borderline fresh, flavours are continuously inconsistent and the coffee they serve is often watered down. I would also like to mention that one of the staff continuously fails to count change properly. I am not amused.
Since I work in the museum and spend most of my time wandering the North-East corner of the Academic Quadrangle (not a square, remember that!), Renaissance coffee is convenient and saves me a 10-15 minute trip to Tim Hortons on the other side of campus. -

First of all, the service here is lackluster. Every location of this place seems to have a barista that is consistently in a bad mood. I don't think it is their intention, but a frown with your coffee in the morning is not exactly a good start.
The coffee is pretty good. There have been some times that the coffee tasted watered down. Most of the time, however, the coffee quality is great. If you arrive in time to get your hands on their baked goods, you're in luck. They are great. -

This is only place open on a Sunday. I had there breakfast sandwich and coffee special for $5.50. I forgot about student prices! The coffee was good, but the sandwich was massive, and it just didn't seem to work. Everything was falling out of the bun. I would go back to try something else if i am ever up there again.
