This is a real consignment store. It is properly curated, culled and I found a few pieces I liked, but on the whole, I tend to dislike high end designer stuff because it's sometimes too avant-garde for me.

You will find the top of the top designer names here. I saw a mod white dress by Vivienne Tam marked down to $75 in desperation. I tried it on, and realized why it hadn't sold, even at $75. :P

I did walk out with a very nice sweater, and eyed a couple of the bags on the floor, namely the Longchamp Pliages going for $120 (that's the price they sell at in Paris in their retail shops, but it's more expensive in Canada, bien sur)

The jewellery was also nice, but the prices are in the $100 - $800 range, with stuff probably averaging around $300, so don't expect to come out of here with a deal all the time unless you want something that NO ONE ELSE has attempted to purchase :P

I thoroughly liked the store, and although it's "affordable" for high end designer stuff, it won't be affordable if you are used to H&M and F21.

This is what a consignment store should be like.  I randomly wandered in early this summer when the store was only half open with half its current inventory.  It is definitely worth a visit every time I'm in the area as I never know what I would find.

Remix has an eclectic, well thought out collection of designer and otherwise labels at affordable discounted prices (we all know what it's like to look at some advertised 'discounted' designer places and still have our wallets hurting after, or hearts broken); clean, decidedly lightly used or new clothing; a bright, airy and spacious second floor location without that musky 'used clothing store' odour; fun, funky, elegant, non-scruffy finds in all price ranges; and the requisite fashion industry types working the store providing some unwanted, 'Darling, that looks fantastic on you. I love the structured shoulders on that piece!' sales advice.

I love that some of the pieces here can be rented if one can't afford to own it outright.  It is something to consider if you have a red carpet event to crash.  There was a fantastic black ballgown there earlier in the summer going for $1000 that disappeared on my second visit.  It was back on my most recent visit at the same price.  It makes me happy just to see it.

This store is very convenient to get to by TTC, right by Queen St W and Bathurst St.  The only way to access its second floor location is by a flight of stairs.  If there is an elevator, I didn't see it.

Excellent, well-curated selection of pieces (both vintage and contemporary), many of which are extremely difficult to find.  For example, REmix had the Christian Siriano runway Spring 2011 shoes for sale, which did not go into production (as of Jan 2011).  They had an entire rack of Lanvin for H&M (I guess if anyone's still interested in that...) and a pretty good shoe selection if your size is larger (8 and up).  They also had some fantastic and unique pieces that were undoubtedly from the runway, a gorgeous Escada jacket, a fantastic men's puffer braided neck piece (it's hard to explain... but really outstanding), mixed in with pieces from lower-end brands such as BeBe that were surprisingly well-designed.  The owner is a stylist, which explains the hard-to-find pieces.

The downside is that the pricing really is too high in a world where eBay and competitive online consignment shops rule.  But if you'd rather spend a little extra cash than lurk around trying your luck on eBay, REmix is a good choice for you.  When I went, the store was 50% off and it was still more expensive than I was willing to pay for.

The saleswoman was extremely attentive to me, showing me a variety of shoes and pieces and making helpful suggestions.  She also proactively gave me the store's card for consigning purposes, which I'm likely to do the next time I'm in Toronto.  She's great!

I visited this store a while back, but recently popped back into it after gushing over a friend's amazing Marni shoe purchase. Unfortunately, I was less than impressed. While there were some great finds, I would never consider H&M (the basic line) to fall under the 'designer' label that is shouted from the window. There were some great pieces, but I felt they were overpriced. I did, however, find this phenomenal Denis Gagnon black leather jacket. As there was no price tag to be found, I asked the man working there if he could let me know the price. His response was incredibly rude, and very unnecessary: "It's $600. It's Denis Gagnon. Do you even know who that is?!" This was all said in a sneering and pompous manner, and I was promptly ignored after I (shockingly) mumbled something and scurried away, not one for confrontation. (I actually recently wrote about Gagnon for Toronto Fashion Week.) I will not be returning to this store: no one deserves such rude treatment. The best part? He was wearing sweatpants!
