Mmm chai... I'm a big Remedy fan, but now that I'm not in school anymore, I don't find myself on the south side of the river much and I was really missing it.
This new location doesn't quite have the atmosphere of the southside, but the food and drink are the same, and I love that there are so many windows.
There's been a lot of talk about downtown revitalization, and I have to give Remedy a lot of credit for being open until midnight every night when almost every other downtown business closes early. Hopefully it will catch on. -

Damn this place for opening up 2 blocks away from work...I am spending SO much money here now.
This place has the best chai lattes I've ever had and I find myself actually craving them.
The staff are great and are always super friendly and chatty. I especially love the one lady who usually works weekday afternoons (dark hair, tonnes of tattoos). She is probably the most friendly person I've ever I've bought something from! -

Love the chai and delighted that they are open on Sundays (anyone else frustrated by the lack of options on Sundays?). The food is meh. I like the toasted wrap* (I.e. the wrapping not the wrapped), but the chana masala and butter chicken are mediocre at best. Actually, calling it butter chicken is a stretch. The side dip provided would be better if it added seasoning/heat instead of sweet.
*I have no idea what the wrap is made of, it is clearly not naan or pita, is the thickness of a tortilla and comparable texture, but a different flavour. It is good toasted and is why I keep ordering the otherwise mediocre options that are available in this delightful casing. Kind of like how toasted pita is a perfect vehicle for splendid hummus, only in reverse.
The staff are friendly and the place is hopping. It can be hard to get a table and I find myself resenting the lonely-readers nursing a cup while taking up the highly demanded tables. I get it, and like spending the afternoon that way myself, but wish they'd seek out the arm chairs or at least a 2 seater rather than block a 4 top table. Be kind, share the wealth when seating is at a premium.
I can't wait for other downtown spots to notice how busy this place is on Sundays. in the meantime, the chai is worth the less than stellar food and the prerequisite table vulture behaviour. -

I'm not an Edmontonian, so I relied on my trusty Yelp app to find a cafe so I didn't have to drop dolla dolla bills on breakfast at the Westin. What attracted me to this place was the free WiFi, and the fusion of Indian flavour with trendy cafe. If it were Calgary, this place would be infested with hipsters and yogi/yoginis. I decided to take the chance and give it a shot anyway.
My thoughts? It was pretty cute. It's not an amazing breakfast spot, but they do have excellent chai. A few breakfast items like 12 grain bagels and breakfast sandwiches graced the menu. It was enough to leave me satisfied for the morning. Despite the lack of breakfast food, there were a lot of interesting things on their full menu. I suspect that this little cafe does better for midday fare.
Overall, I was pretty pleased. They have quite a few tables with outlets nearby so I was able to get some work done. The girl behind the counter with the black hair was soooooo nice. She was very pleasant to deal with when the WiFi wasn't working. Normally I would be slightly pissed off, but I didn't feel bothered at all. Maybe I owe it to the soothing powers of my morning chai? -

I was so nervous about the opening of a new Remedy. My beloved Remedy. Quirky, tasty Remedy, location of my first date with my husband and many, many cake dates with friends over the years, where you always leave smelling like butter chicken (mmm, butter chicken).
I loved Health Fare that was in this space before, but even though I was bummed about losing it, and I was skeptical of a new Remedy, I was very, very excited. I stopped in for the first time about a week after they opened up and I'm happy to say I've returned many times since.
The space is definitely brighter and more open than Remedy #1's cramped interior, but it hasn't lost any of its charm. It's actually a fantastic study spot or place to chill because of the natural light and cast of characters that are always around (both customers and staff).
My go-to is the butter chicken dish and a Kashmiri Chai. I don't know why they started adding flower petals (or whatever they are) to the drink. It's just weird. But it's still a tasty, creamy, hot, near-perfect sip. And of course, the butter chicken (to stay or to go) is the most delicious thing on the planet.
Friendly service, a great soundtrack, a sunny ambience, great food and drink. Oh, and they have free wifi and plug-ins! And late hours! Oh my. Yep, life at Remedy is good.Listed in: Four-Stars, Date Night, Cups of Coffee, Good For Groups, Devouring Desserts

I love the Remedy location downtown. It has been open for only three weeks, but is already my home office away from home.
Whether you are enjoying the live music on Friday evenings, hanging our with friends, or working diligently away, the atmosphere is fun and the staff are super friendly.
For the working from home/cafe crowd, Remedy is the place to be. The restaurant boasts free wifi, more power outlets than you can shake a stick at, plenty of seating and plenty of delicious Indian food to snack on.
My powering-through-a-report meal is the Masala Dosa which is available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Dosa is a veggie-filled crepe that comes with four dipping sauces (I believe they are: mint, coconut, plum, and a curry soup). Cap it off with Remedy's home-made chai and you have a recipe for good food, good vibes, and (hopefully) getting some good work done. -

I heard a rumour that Remedy was finally open downtown. Today I found myself downtown and I thought, "hey I'm gonna go to Remedy and get a delicious chai."
I've been to the original Remedy a few times and always enjoyed the drinks and food. there But I was excited for the downtown location to be open because it's just off the LRT line, and only a quick detour from school (on the days when I don't have an 8 a.m. class).
The new downtown Remedy is nice in decor, and has more of a downtown business crowd look and feel than the other restaurant. So it's not quite the same vibe, if that doesn't sound too flaky of me, as the other restaurant. But I get it. Different crowd, different look, different feel.
The menu however seems to be the same as the other location. Same selection of drinks including the chai, which is what I went for. Same selection of food, which includes your standard coffeeshop type fare like muffins and cookies, as well as a variety of Indian and Pakistani food. Several vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options as well, which is great to see.
I knew Remedy on 109th was popular (it's always packed when I go there), but for some reason I was assuming the downtown location would be more of a secret, at least on a Sunday. I mean downtown Edmonton on Sunday isn't really a busy place. But I walked in and every table was taken, and this was a good sized cafe. So my plot to sit down and have a chai was thwarted. Damn. But on the otherhand I was glad to see people supporting Remedy during its first few weeks (I'm not exactly sure when Remedy opened). Moreso I was quite happy to see a cafe aside from a chain open on a Sunday.
The chai here I know takes a few minutes, but I'm always okay with waiting when the drink is good, and it was. The guy behind the counter seemed a little overwhelmed, but it was busy and I'm sure service will improve with time (not that it was bad service or anything like that).
Remedy I'm happy your open downtown. Hopefully next time I go I'll be able to find a table to sit at.Listed in: Must. Have. Caffeine.

Review from Matthew L.

Downtown Edmonton suffers as a lively all hours center for a number of reasons - reputation may be the number one reason, but the landscape itself is a close number two. While there are practical reasons to create a downtown based on Pedways and interior mall-like corridors, they detract from the general livability of the downtown core.
Remedy defies all presumed logic about Downtown - logic generated well before new condo/apartment developments and the LRT extension to Century Park were built. Located on the southeast corner of Jasper Ave and 103 Street, Remedy invites passers-by with picture windows which wrap the Cafe's outer walls, simple, yet chic decor, and a room full of people.
Remedy downtown is open from 7:30 AM to Midnight on Weekdays and from 8AM to Midnight on Weekends, despite naysaying from other other business owners who claim that a downtown cafe cannot turn a profit after 6PM. Remedy is apparently packed at all hours.
But Remedy is unique. Not only do they have rich and incredibly delicious chai, but they have a nicely stocked fridge of beer and a few bottles of wine. Additionally, they serve a number of different vegetarian and carnivore-friendly dishes. I tried the Masala Dosa, which was a bit thinner than the Dosas I'm used to, but just as delicious. I enjoyed the filling, which consisted of potatoes, peas, and a curry sauce. A small amount of lentil soup, raita, and a mint chutney accompanied the dosa.
Sarah ordered the coconut "vegan chicken" dish, which was also very tasty, and a filling bargain at $10.
Remedy is a fantastic addition to Downtown and should help turn Downtown into a place which will be lively at all hours. -
Review from Paula K.
I was thrilled to learn that Remedy was opening a location north of the river. I have been going to the south side location for years.
This new location is much more spacious and bright. It is still loud from music, conversation, and coffee machine. The free wifi is a definite draw, as is the menu of reasonably priced Indian foods, desserts, and a plethora of hot and cold drinks. I had an iced Kasmiri chai latte, which was a delight to my taste buds. The garnishes of pistachio and rose petals made my day.
The atmosphere is a bit more slick here, with the menu on electronic screens and the pervasive smell of curry much toned down. Still, you will find a variety of hippies, hipsters, and students here. It is also one of the few downtown spots opened late. -
Review from Yo U.
"Meh" just about sums up my experience here. From the horribly insufficient seating, to the inconsiderate patrons, to the merely acceptable Indian food, to the slightly high prices, Remedy Cafe will have to do better to win repeat business from me. I'll check out other places in the area before considering a return trip to Remedy Cafe.
