Seattle, WA
This place has the best baked goods, and they don't have just your typical "bakery" delights. They have Asian-influenced treats! Their cakes aren't overwhelmingly sweet, and they have real bits of fruit in the filling! I know whenever I get married and need to get a wedding cake, I will be coming here to have it made. They also have a "menu" for actual lunch/dinner food, as well as a wide selection of drinks (like a bubble tea place, but more!).
The owner is a really nice woman, and is always so friendly and personable. All in all, this place is fantastic. I go here every time I go to the Eastside. -

Seattle, WA
Parking was a breeze to find especially during the weekend.
Price. The items on the menu are kinda expensive.
Taste. Ordered the Signapore fried noodle, which was okay, not as good as Vancouver Chinese restaurants. Kung pao chicken with vegetables and rice tasted plain yet simple. The honey walnut prawns was pretty crispy and delicious. Beef noodle soup seems quite ordinary, but better than most noodle places. Satay beef noodles had pineapple, which turned out to be descent, but just a bit salty. Satay beef with pineapples and rice tasted like home cooking.
Customer Service was alright, but the staff deserves props for listening and paying attention to detail very quite well.
Layout. At first it seems like this is just a bakery and cafe, but its much more than that once you enter check it out for yourself. The giant bakery and cafe menu is simple and easy to read and understand. Kinda reminds people of Richmond B.C. bakeries and small cafes that have pretty good food. -

I'm going to take away a star, just because you're so darn expensive!
But you're good. A very good asian bakery place. I like your bread loaf, and your cakes, but for half or three quarters of your price.. I can get the same... in Vancouver BC. Must you make me drive all the way there to get it?
Dine in food is mediocre. And bubble tea is meh.
I go to regents for their bread and cakes. If only you weren't so pricy. Or maybe have some type of loyal card system.. haha -

My daughter and I love this place. Food and bakery are very good! Lunch time is very busy so you might have to wait to get table and wait to get your food.

Review from Johnny W.
My second stop along the way to Redmond, I dropped in to Regent and picked up a pork sung bun, milk powder bun, and egg tart. Credit card minimum here is $10, so double that of 101Yess a little ways away.
The pork sung bun had dense, smooshed bread, which was unfortunate, along with their overly generous application of mayo in the center (I've never been a fan) - but, they're very generous with the pork sung itself, so, a minor saving grace. Their milk powder bun was terrible though, and not worth the calories: bland, bland, and more bland, and this is coming from someone with a lighter palate too! And their egg tarts weren't much better: a decent custard filling with an okay puff pastry crust.
So, not terrible, but definitely below average. And if you're out here, you're better off going a little bit further (or closer, depending on your location) to 101Yess instead. -
Review from Kevin W.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what this place is. Regent calls themselves a bakery, but they also have elements of a restaurant and a bubble tea store. So which is it? I don't know, but maybe it's for the better that this one location can do so many things at once. I really love it when a restaurant is "all-in-one" like this. What I don't like is when it comes at a hefty price.
Since Regent is first and foremost a bakery, I'll start by talking about the bakery items. For $3.60, they'll be happy to treat you to a thin, small slice of cake. The price seems to be pretty consistent across their different varieties. Sure, the cakes are pretty and it actually looks like effort was put into decorating them, but they're the kind that you can finish in a few bites. The larger, whole cakes are around twenty dollars for the ones that are six inches in diameter, and around thirty dollars for eight inches in diameter. The cakes themselves aren't that big, but the prices seem a bit more justified when you take into account that they're made with higher quality ingredients, loaded with fresh fruit, and generally taste really good.
I've also recently discovered that they serve actual meals like at a restaurant. I looked around to see customers seated at a table and munching on fried rice. That looks pretty much like a restaurant to me, but I've never gotten anything like that here, so I can't fairly comment on it. Maybe next time. What I can comment on, however, is their bubble tea. Pretty typically of America, it's three dollars for a decently-sized cup. I got a banana pearl tea here and it tasted nothing like banana. Instead, what I got was thick, sugary, and syrupy. It wasn't bad per se; it's just that it tasted too much like maple syrup, and when I order a banana pearl tea, I typically don't expect something that puts me in the mood for pancakes.
The various bread items here looked a little overpriced compared to what I've seen at other Asian bakeries, so I didn't get them. I imagine that you would be getting a better deal by buying bread elsewhere. The rest of the food--or at least what I've seen of it--is quite good, although slightly overpriced. I do get the feeling, however, that the quality is higher than your ordinary bakery. The place has a somewhat upscale feel to it and is always filled with the sweet aroma of delicious food. I choose to get my birthday cakes here, although I usually don't get much else. -

I would like to give this place 5 stars, I really would. But after what happen last week, I'm just annoyed.
So this is not like my second or third time coming to this bakery, it is like my 50th time coming here. I always get a honey-lemon tea and a few pastries to go with it at least a couple times a week.
The other day I come in here before work to get my honey-lemon tea and a couple pastries and there were a few people ahead of me and I stand in line. While I was standing in line I noticed the people ahead of me had also ordered hot drinks and got sleeves over their cups and nice little boxes for their food. It is finally my turn to order my things and I ordered about 5 pastries and a hot drink and she does not give me a sleeve for me drink so I'm thinking, "hmm..maybe this one is not as hot as the other ones so she thinks I will not need a sleeve." So I'm leaving with my pastries and drink and I noticed the moment I step outside the bakery my palms were BURNING because the drink was so hot and she didn't give me a sleeve!
okay okay, it seems like I'm just whining about a stupid hot drink that burned my hand, right? When I got in the car I noticed that all my pastries were in a weak little paper bag instead of a box like she should have given me so they were all crushed by the time I got to work and shared them with my co-workers.
It seems like to me that these old chinese ladies took advantage of the fact that I'm just this young looking, little asian girl that just wants some tea and cookies so they just gave me horrible service. WELL, that one mistake they made will cost them MANY new customers.
I love their pastries...and drinks....but HORRIBLE customer service. But then again...I'm not surprised... -

Best bubble tea in the area! Once in a while the bubbles may be slightly hard but 9 out of 10 times they get it right. Food is lightning fast and tasty.

*Pastry review*
Well presented pastries, good variety, and cakes are somewhat tasty. Subtle flavor in parts of the pastry where I would expect more.
*Bubble tea review*
Regent B&C uses too much powder and ice and not enough base liquid. The pearls are stewed slightly longer for my taste due to the thickness of the gelatin film.
Overall: Second refer -

The best boba on the eastside, but not in the Seattle area. The won ton noodle soup is decent & I appreciate that they package the noodles & dumplings separately from the broth when you order it to go.
The cakes I've had are delicious. A bit on the pricey side, like the pastries though, the mango cake is a must-try.
I used to frequent this place years ago, and feel like the quality isn't quite the same. Anyone else agree? -

I've been here a couple of times, mainly for their HK style milk tea. It's one of the best around. Unfortunately, that is the only nice thing I can say about this place. I've gone there to eat 3 times. Why 3 times you ask? For the milk tea! The 1st time, the chicken and pineapple fried rice was so bad (this was takeout), I threw it away! The second time I met a friend there and ordered the pork with preserved vegetable noodle soup. This was horrible and flavorless. And the dish was lukewarm. Now today, the last time I will go for the food, I took my parents and sister. The service was horrible. There are 2 ladies that work there. The younger one with short hair, heavy set, was just atrocious! She ignored us the whole time, even when she saw us waving at her. She walked away in the middle of my order to get a take out box ,never refilled our water, and was just pissed at the world. She left so quickly after we gave our orders for the tea that she messed up the last order. And she was mad at me for telling her that it was wrong! The food is overpriced for what you get, small plate of seasonal veggies for $13.89., $7 for 4 bowls of white rice. I wouldn't have minded as much if Ms.Miserable wasn't part of the equation. Asian restaurants are not known for their service but this one take the cake!!

over priced, but yet you don't have too many choices. The food is okay. The biggest problem with Regent's food is the rice. The rice is old and dry. (cheap rice)

I tried their pastries with my boyfriend. We ordered a few varities. I must say that there was nothing too special or unique about their pastries. You can find better quality pastries down in the International district or at Alderwood Mall's H Mart or Ranch 99.
We did get a cake to go for a friend. We ordered a black forest cake. For a bunch of Chineelse pastry chefs making an English dessert, it was pretty good. It was very filling but light. It was not too sweet or sour. I am not a huge fan of mushed fruit in my cakes, but they had a decent amount of cherries in the middle layer that weren't too mushy and soggy.
I highly don't recommend their boba. It is all powder. I thought it was going to be like University District's Wow on the Ave with fresh or frozen blended fruit. Nope. They charged me $3 for water, a scoop of powder that tasted nothing like pineapple, three scoops of powdered non-dairy creamer, and tapioca pearls when I requested none. I drank it and tasted nothing but the fake dairy cream. Ick.
I will come here for their cakes and maybe their pastries.
Their service is your typical abrasive Chinese business mentality. They get you in and out. If you need time to decide, they want you out of their way and to not to take up any space to decide, even in the middle of an empty café. -

Excellent chocolate cake with cherry filling! Light, yet tasty! Yum, yum...
I really haven't had other items in the store (it seems other people have issues with them) so I am only rating the cake... -
Review from Dorothy C.
Just by browsing the different types of cakes and pastries I could see this is a cafe that has some pretty good desserts. I really enjoyed the moon cake, mostly because there isn't any around here.
I did NOT like the bubble tea. I am from Toronto, Canada and the only reason I got it is because no one seems to know other bubble tea places around here and I'm pretty desperate. Also, $1.30 for an egg tart is quite pricey, especially since I've had much better egg tarts for a lower price. I would like to go back to try some of their cakes, but I noticed some small slices go up to $6.30. I might as well bake my own, since chinese blackforest cakes + others aren't that hard to bake. I would recommend this place to new-comers who miss chinese buns, desserts and pastries but if you're leaving this area soon then save your craving til you get to a more asian-populated area with lots more competition, resulting in higher standards. -

The most important reason to go here is THEY SELL THE PORTAL CAKE.
You know, the cake that was a lie? The one that Glad0s said was delicious and moist? Yes, video game nerds, they have that cake here for sale.
Rumor has it, someone who worked at Valve bought the Black Forest cake from this bakery, took it back to Valve for someone's birthday and then the cake joined the ranks of legend when it was featured in Portal.
We found this out one day while we were at work and since the bakery was super close to MS campus, we bolted over, pooled our money together and bought us one delicious and moist Portal cake. And yes, we are still alive.
Anyway, the cake is on the spendy side ($30 for a whole cake) but we are video game nerds and the opportunity to buy a Portal cake was seriously worth it. In fact, we plan on going back once a month and buying a cake. -
Review from Suie C.
I like regent. Their honey milk tea is the best on the eastside and gives Amrbosia in the ID district good competition. Their tapioca is by far the best around, soft chewy, and never dry.
I've come here many many times for bubble tea, pastries, buns, and have tried their cafe food. Their pastries are always good, they're Asian pastries which means they're not overly sweet and their sponge cake is soooooo good! Light, fluffy, and it comes in vanilla and coffee flavored!
I like their coffee cake roll, their raisin twist, and many of their buns.
Cakes are great too, especially the ones with fresh fruit. Egg tart could be better, but that's b/c I actually prefer them to be a bit sweeter than what they have here.
Cafe wise, their chow funs are good and I like their tofu veggie dish.
Price wise, it's a bit pricier than what you would expect, almost $4/cake, $8/coffee roll, and their cafe items range from $7-$14 usually. Bubble tea wise, it's always $3.30 after tax.
They have a punch card for bubble tea, great for regulars like me. Best to come here and pick up a quick snack and a drink.
$10 minimum for credit card purchases.Listed in: Sweets, Baked goods

Hum... a Chinese restaurant... or maybe Café? Or is it a Bakery? I'm not really sure what this is, but it's something...
Whatever it is, it's not bad. I'm not going to give this place a ton of stars, because 1. I haven't tried the bakery side, and 2. The food was only ho-hum. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love a great Chinese dish, and yes, I'm the type to consider Din Tai Fung, overrated, so maybe that tells you I have a higher expectation for food that I cook on a regular basis at home. Why was I here then? This was a Quick dinner with a sweetheart, then back to work.
So I see a ton of review of the bakery, and the food, I just got a bowl of their house fried rice, which was tasty, but nothing special. My buddy got a bowl of Pork Soup, which admittedly I was eyeing the entire time I was there. So here is a plate of food, which tastes fine, nothing special. I keep thinking when I go to a Chinese restaurant, that there will be something that takes my breath away, but then again, all I got was friend rice. The service was fine, though, it could have been better
Sorry, I want to rate this restaurant, and maybe when I go for the bakery, things may change, but for the moment... it's meh. -
Review from Robert K.
1/2 Bakery and 1/2 Cafe/Restaurant, Regent's offers two different services and I'll be fair to rate each separately.
Bakery: The offer a nice variety of pastries and cakes, the taste is decent, and pricing is definitely overpriced. I've tried a few different cakes, bread, cookies, etc. at different times and would rate the bakery a 3 star at best. The coffee and bubble (boba) tea is average as well.
Cafe: I've been here many times for the food, ate variety of items such as noodles chow fun/chow mein, fish with ginger/onion, mapo tofu, beef, etc. The list is too long that I'm too lazy to write it down. I will give the cafe a solid 4 stars because it compares very close in overall taste, value, and quality as my other eastside Chinese restaurant favorites.
Because I primarily go here for the cafe, I gave it the benefit of the doubt with a 4 star review. I would advise anyone to come here primarily for the food, not the bakery. Also, check out the other reviews I did on eastside Chinese restaurants and compare them to find your favorite.
Disclaimer: For what it counts, I claim to be a good judge of chinese food. -

I work pretty close to the Regent Bakery & Cafe and when I have a sweet tooth, I hit up this place. My favorite dessert is the vanilla sponge cake. This dessert literally melts in your mouth! I've also tried the chocolate flavor, but I have to say that the vanilla is my favorite. I can't wait to go back and try their other cakes and goodies!

This is a great place for dessert, sweet buns, celebration cakes, and fast Chinese food. I regularly go here to order the Asian Fruit Cake. Our family loves the light cake and whipped icing. It's great for any occasion and isn't overly rich like other standard cakes. I also love to stop by for filled sweet buns and little desserts.
I was just here last night for a quick dinner with my boyfriend. The server was timely to assist us throughout our entire visit. She was very nice and friendly; a big difference from the service I usually get at Chinese restaurants. The food we ordered also came out lightning fast. Good thing too because my boyfriend was starving. The food itself is not bad. I've been here for dinner a few times and enjoyed everything I ate. I also like their combo lunch deals. A few things to note is that the restaurant is small, they ony have a few tables and can get crowded fast. The seating area is right next to the bakery line which gets pretty busy. It's a worthwhile place to visit and rare being on the Eastside. -
Review from Alex T.
Nice little cafe... and sosososososo many delicious cakes! They seriously have a huge variety of different baked goods, and their packaging reminds me of those Chinese bakeries in Vancouver.
Their bubble tea is also pretty fantastic :).
I haven't tried their cafe food but by the looks of the recent reviews.. probably something to stray away from.
Only accepts credit cards if your balance is above ten dollars. -

Now pay close attention. The restaurant's name is Regent Bakery and Café. It's not Regent Café and Bakery.
What am I getting at? I'm saying the name tells you the emphasis is on their baked goods and not on their cafe business. I didn't try the baked goods, but the ample selection looked alluring. Also, more people were coming into the restaurant to buy sweets than to eat lunch while we were there.
We ordered lunch combos. They were mediocre. Actually, the vegetables in our combos were worse than mediocre. They were downright unappealing, swimming in a slimy corn starch goo.
The mango bubble tea was thin and watery.
Our waitress was not up to the task. She forgot to bring us our soup, which she only remembered just as our entrees appeared. And when we were obviously done eating, she busied herself cleaning other tables, pointedly ignoring us for the longest time, when all we wanted at that point was the check.
It appeared that the lady behind the counter was in charge, so we went up to her to see if we could get the check. When the ditzy waitress saw us do that, she suddenly noticed us, and asked if we were ready for her check. Uh yeah, we were ready, a long time ago.
I'd skip lunch here, but three stars for the potential of decent baked goods. Otherwise, two stars. -

Absolutely yummy pastries! Traditional Chinese buns and more American style cakes, but with a delicate texture that leaves you satisifed and not feeling heavy. The food menu is also nicely done with a wide variety of well prepared dishes. I make it a point to visit even though I must pay the toll being from Seattle.

Woah! I thought I wrote a review for Regent but Yelp begs to differ... so I guess I should get started!
Regent has a nice selection of breads, whole cakes and cake slices! Everything is so cute and tasty! I wish I could eat more but the cakes are quite pricy (but worth it). The breads are a good size and the prices are reasonable!
Convenient location and I've been coming back for years! -

I'm almost a regular here. The place has tons of comfort food if your Chinese and the best Chinese pastries in town!
I'm giving this place 4 stars because of not just the food and beverages, but I find the staff quite friendly. Not to mention everything is more than reasonably priced and they have a large selection of pastries and baked good. I would give this place 5 stars, however I can't say everything here is tasty. For one, their egg tarts are a disappointment and some of this drinks are meh. -

ASIAN CAKES FOR THE WIN.
There's something about Asian cakes that I love. Whether it be the nicely textured cake, fluffy whipped cream, fresh fruit, shavings of chocolate, jello lettering, taro and pudding fillings...it's all good!
Regent is where my parents like to order cakes for birthday dinner parties other than A Piece of Cake. I think we come here more often though. Besides cake, they also sell pastries, egg tarts, breads, buns, and even lunch and dinner items!
I can't comment on the meal options here, never tried it out before. I'm sure it's fairly Americanized, and on the greasy side though...
Anyway, this is an overall awesome bakery. Be sure to order a whole cake to go, you'll be happy you did. (=Listed in: Everybody has a sweet tooth…, Feeling Asian?

I've only ordered cakes here, and I continue to come back because they are really excellent desserts. My favorite is the Swiss Chocolate. It's a nice break from years of dark chocolate molten blah blah blah. I prefer Regent because of their Genoise style cakes they - they're lighter and fluffier than most sponge cakes used in other bakery departments i.e. Whole Foods, Hoffman's, Metropolitan Market
I haven't tried many other Asian bakeries so I don't have much to compare to...but I don't a good cause to go look elsewhere.
p.s. don't expect grand friendly overtures from the staff. If it's attention you're looking for, just wait until you slice it up and serve to your friends. -
Review from Silvia H.
I have no idea what authentic Hong Kong style food should taste like or how this place rates in comparison to any type of Chinese cuisine, but I like it. No I love this place actually and that's good enough for me to keep coming back.
I have tried every Asian bakery within a 20 mile radius and this has been my favorite for years.
My favorites foods are strawberry cake, mango mousse cake, curry beef pastry, honey shrimp, regent fried rice, wonton soup, salt and pepper fried chicken, and the mongolian beef.
I tried the bubble tea once, but it was too sweet for me. Also didn't care for any of their chocolates cakes. I can't remember which buns I've tried in the past, but they've all been tasty, with a slightly sweet but moist texture. -

Delicious baked goods - the BBQ Pork Bun is a must! The Chow Fun is also really delicious if you have the chance to eat lunch there - the noodles are fresh and thick, the perfect texture!
The price too is quite reasonable! -

I get birthday cakes from here. My favorite one is the Black Forest Cake...yum! I like this place alot, but only for pastries and cakes...I don't recommend getting bubble tea from here. Also, I knocked off a star because they wouldn't let me use my card unless I made at least a $10 purchase, so I was basically forced to buy more stuff when I didn't want to because I didn't have any cash on me.

One of my regular takeout place - their crispy noodles with char siew and Regent fried rice are my favorites. And you must try the pork sung bun - absolutely delicious! They usually sell out by dinner time so get them at lunchtime!
Their cakes are also delicious, always good for a "I-feel-like-cake" moment together with one of their blended coffee, bubble tea or smoothie. The extra calories are worth it! -
Review from Kimmy C.
This place is ridiculously expensive. They charge so much because they are on the eastside. What a strategically wise choice for them because I bet you your pearl tea drink cost less than 30 cents to make and they could charge between 2-4 dollars. Just saying...
My work had a retreat and since most of us drink tea, my supervisor got hot milk tea for us. I generally avoid all the fruit flavored milk tea or smoothie flavored teas because of the controversy with milk tea places using powders and syrup and where they get their products from China (I have no idea if this place uses syrup or powders but most likely do). I usually determine how good milk tea is by the taste and the texture of the milk tea. All of us complained how the tea wasn't "smooth" in texture and there was no tea flavor. I was disappointed with the lack of tea flavor and it only tasted like sugar milk. I wasn't too impressed and won't be coming back here again. -

Great selection of Asian cakes and pastries.
This place is produces some of the best cakes around. They are great for birthdays and my friends often ask where I go to buy these. Most cakes are a lot lighter then your typical cakes and not over sweet also they have a large selection of fresh fruit as toppings and fillings (cause cake is fatty but fruit makes it better). They also come in slices so if you're looking to impress someone this is a great way to score some points. In addition to sweet pastries they also make a bunch of salty snacks, some of my favorites being the shredded pork buns and their green onion pastry both awesome for munching on.
I haven't eaten at their sit down in a long time but often frequent this place for slices of cakes and other pastries. A definite to-go if you need some point scoring material. -

On the recommendation of someone who was surprised we enjoyed the pork buns at Golden Boat, we went to Regent to try their buns. My husband really enjoyed their curry bun and commented about how there was a bit of a kick to this curry and how he enjoyed the spiciness of it. I grew up with really sweet bbq pork buns more like the ones at Golden Boat, but the bbq pork bun here wasn't bad either. Overall, my husband preferred both of the buns here to GB.
What I really liked about this place was that it has tons of parking and doesn't seem to be really crowded (although we were there at an off time on the weekend and not during a busy lunch or something), the staff seem very helpful and not pushy, the customers on the cafe side were mostly all Asian (something about Asian patrons in Asian restaurants, Mexican patrons in Mexican restaurants, etc. make me think it's probably a good spot!), a big selection of pastries and even though we didn't have the cakes, they looked lovely. (We also heard that this is the go-to spot for the one who recommended the place to us in the first place for cakes for ANY & every birthday celebration they have!) I also really like that they have GOOD bubble tea (called pearl tea here), but I didn't have time to read over the entire drink menu on the wall so I ordered a regular pearl milk tea and didn't notice they offered it Hong Kong style too which I prefer. The 'pearls' were very good here, not mushy at all and the tea had a good flavor too (this is very contrasting to Golden Boat where the bubble tea was completely undrinkable to me!).
I haven't tried the cafe side (yet) as we weren't really looking for a meal when we stopped in. I will say, though, that my husband was eyeballing the "real food" (as he says) that a lot of the people were enjoying. I definitely think giving the food here a shot is something to do in the near future! -

The bakery was small but good.
The desserts were varied. Quite a lot of selection.
I tried pork floss on bread and like it.
My tiramisu cake was not strong enough.. the taste too light...
the black forest cake also too plain...
overall, just an OK -

Bubble tea shouldn't have crunchy, hard, too chewy, too soft, or just plain bad-tasting tapioca pearls. They should be a perfect combination of chewy, firm, round, and have a relatively appealing color. Which is why I name this place... As by far selling the best bubble teas in the area!
Being a bubble tea fanatic, I'm, as I said before, constantly on the hunt for a great bubble tea. I think that I've finally found a really, really good place! While yes, they do use Coffemate, and their powdered flavoring is really quite artificial, it still tastes great. Their pastries are also good, but definitely go here for their bubble tea. It's pretty amazing.
