This is truly your neighbourhood bar...even if you don't live in the neighbourhood.  Everyone here knows your name - and if they don't when you walk in, they will before you leave.  I only ate the sliders as I warned that some of the other dishes aren't good...so beware the menu but if you're looking for a casual drink I would definitely recommend The Regal Beagle

I don't know why so many people aren't a fan of the Regal Beagle.  It's in a great location a few blocks away from the 99 B-line stop in Kitsilano.  I came here with some friends on a Friday night around 10:30pm, and we were able to find a table in the back.  We got a few pints of Sapporo and ordered the nachos.  They were a bit expensive, but we got a massive pile of nachos with lots of toppings.  It was a little bit loud inside, but you could still have a conversation.  I'd definitely come back here for drinks.

We stopped by for brunch, being starving and intrigued by their $3.99 breakfast. I was surprised by the inside of the bar, I expected it to me much more of a dive. It was actually pretty nice.

We got seated at a small two-top and handed menus right away. We both ordered coffee, which was surprisingly strong -- my boyfriend couldn't really drink his, as he's not much of a coffee drinker anyway. Everything on the menu beyond the breakfast special was a significant price increase, so we stuck to our guns with the $3.99 breakfast.

Food was decent. Some random onions snuck their way onto our plates hidden in our potatoes, which was a bit weird. My poached eggs were just about perfectly done.

As we got the bill, we noticed a sign on the wall advertising the $3.99 breakfast with free coffee -- we did not get this. Apparently you need to ask your server about it. Kind of annoying.

I probably wouldn't come back for brunch, but I'd definitely come back for drinks.

With the permanent closure of the Frog & Firkin up the block we decided to pop in to the Regal Beagle with a couple of friends for a few drinks after dinner. The bar is essentally 2 separate rooms with the kitchen on the left and the bar on the right. We were greeted quickly at the door and were lucky to get the last table in the place.
First observation, it is so loud! The tv's were blasting college hockey games, the speakers were blaring crappy pop music and everyone at the tables were trying to have conversations above the din. Second observation, 50% of the patrons were friends of Reagle Beagle employees. At times, we felt like we had crashed a private party. No complaints about our service since our server appeared to be the only employee without a posse of friends visiting.
By virtue of the fact that it is now the only bar in the area it is the least bit appealing.

I don't know how to get just a few beers here since they tell you right away that this is a pub with "food priority". So I've tried the fully loaded nachos - a huge pile and really nice fresh and crisp tortilla with ok guacamole, cheese and veggie.

The pub is aimed at young people so loud music is a must. Maybe we should have a suggested age section on yelp. My tip for this joint 18-24.

Update: It seems that it now has a eating section and a bar section. Don't know if it improves on the loudness aspect since I never went back in - telling isn't it.

Wow so much hate for the Beagle! :-S

Well it is a bit loud but it was a good atmosphere for a young crowd.  It has a good location, especially now with the 99 B line so close.  It's a great place for a few pints, some pub food, and chill with friends.

I think their nachos could use more cheese.

I haven't been for a while, but went recently to watch a game.  I must say, the food and service was very good.  Nachos were unreal.  Monster tower and fresh made chips.  Excellent Guac.  Really a cut above.  Burgers were massive, fries were excellent.  Server was friendly and attentive.  Atmosphere was great and loads of nice flat screens all over the place.

If you want a good bar to watch a game and eat decent bar food, then this does the trick.

I would agree that the music was a little too loud sometimes though, but I suppose you could ask them to turn it down a bit.

Ok, after reading all the reviews, I'm confused, so I feel I need to correct a few things here!

First of all, this is a neighbourhood pub, and you should expect to enjoy all the charm that goes along with that.  It's not so much the place is "full of servers' friends", as there are a lot of regulars who enjoy the place.  The Beagle is also constantly supporting sports teams, charities and other worthwile community events.

Busy for weekend breakfast?  You bet!  Try charging less than McDonalds for a full breakfast and a deal on Caesar's and see how busy any place gets.

Loud and busy for a hockey game?  Absolutely - fill the place with tvs and people drinking and such, and what else would you expect?!

As for the food, it's a bit hit and miss for me personally, with some menu items tasty, and good value, others I'm not a fan.

Onions "snuck in" the potatoes?  Hello?! Is there anyone in there - have you never experienced or made home fries that have onions, herbs, peppers etc?  Most people consider this a plus.

The burgers are solid, fries are good, the salt and pepper wings are also good, and the nachos as well.  All standard pub food, and consistently executed.  The salsa is fresh made and tastes fantastic.

There are beer specials, and food specials, including Wednesday Beer and Burger for $10, 39 cent wings, etc.

If you want a soulless experience with no character and factory produced food, go to the Firkin franchises, or Cactus Club.

Leaves more room at the Beagle for the rest of us!

I think their stellar location is what keeps this place in business and the lack of other good options in the neighbourhood.  I've been here a few times over the last few years and had a couple of beers there last night.

In the bathroom there was a sign about the newly renovated regal beagle.  Other than the new sign out front of the restaurant I didn't notice any change.

The inside is still dated and the bar is still awkwardly cut into two rooms.  The beers are not expensive or cheap.  I wanted some hot wings but decided against it as they were one of the most expensive items on the menu ($12)   I ended up getting the three sliders for $10, they were ok but if I ever come back here I don't think I'll eat.

I wish someone would open something new and modern in this neighbourhood, then maybe I won't mind paying $12 for a pound of wings....

The Regal Beagle may be good for a drink or two and not much else.

One night when we launched an unofficial pub crawl from Granville to Alma along Broadway, the Beagle was one of our half-dozen stops. The bouncer had needless attitude, especially since his bar was only kinda full of less-than-rowdy patrons.

The dingy atmosphere is aimed at classic rock enthusiasts. It morphs into a sports bar on game nights and good-sized seating areas will be packed when it does.

"Meh. I've experienced better" has never been better used than with the Regal Beagle. Though I do appreciate any place that's willing to take the name of a bar from a 70s sitcom into the 21st century, that's where my affinity ends.

The Beagle has some stuff going for it. Fairly convenient location, good enough selection of booze and clean atmosphere. That's about where it ends though.

The Beagle's issue is its size to amount of guest ratio. It is really meant to be a cozy pub to house just a handful of revelers sitting down but it often breaches that capacity quickly and the music calls to mind much more of a clubby atmosphere.

I can't say I've had the issues with staff that others have. I even had to wait in line to get in once and only got apologies from the bouncer who clearly was fighting with the managers over a line existing at all.

So yeah, generally I'd say avoid it. Head a little more west down Broadway if you want a real pub atmosphere and if you're looking for Da Club just go upstairs to Lola's.

Came here a few months ago for drinks. Based on the server's rave review of Peroni beer (Italian), I tried one. Probably one of the worst beers ever. Anyhow, I didn't have any food, so can't review that. Place was super loud so kind of hard to have a convo. 'Meh' indeed. My only wish is that its experience matched its funky name.

Depending on your mood, the Regal Beagle has either the most awesome or worst-ever playlist of 90s pop music spinning on perennial repeat. I've been there twice -- months apart -- and heard the same music both times. In that respect and others, the Regal Beagle meets your expectations for a characterless bar. It offers an average beer selection, "Cheers"-like bar decor and an average bar food menu. I know I'm damning with faint praise here, so I'll also add that both times I've been to the Regal Beagle I've enjoyed myself because I was with good people. Awwwww!

It's an ok place to go for a pint, but the food is mediocre and I found the atmosphere a bit strange.  First off, the interior of the bar is LOUD; while playing a non Canucks game that noone was watching, the volume was so loud everyone was screaming at each other.  The decor suggested a pub dining experience, but the insane volume bashed the idea of a sports bar over your head.  The patio was quite a lot better, although the Beagle's staff tended to congregate at the entrance to talk to friends, blocking entrance and exit to the establishment.
The food was alright, but nothing outstanding. The flatbread and dips app squeaked into the 'ok' category, despite the flatbreads being a bit burnt and near the bottom they were soggy with oil.  Burger and chips were fairly standard pub food, but the fries were a over seasoned with so much salt it burnt your tongue, and the sweet potato fries were verging on burnt.
Also, if the Beagle is aiming for a pub atmosphere and style, please throw out the poncey long rectangular plates.

The Beagle seems to be an establishment with an identity crisis: are you a pub? Sports bar? Dining establishment?

My friends took me here for a hangover breakfast and I was pleasntly surprised. I had the chorizo hash. It was spicy and a perfect morning reset. The staff was pleasant and the caesar I had was the a great hair if the dog restart.  Not the best breakfast I ever had and a bit pricey but very filling and enjoyable.

We stopped in early one Saturday afternoon for a bite to eat.  I had a burger that was fairly tasty and thought the fries were actaully quite good.  My wife had some kind of egg benny thing and she thought is was quite good as well.  We'll go back.

One thing to remember is that people are often motivated to write negative reviews.

While not as harsh as Amanda C, overall I have to agree with her.  Obviously Diarmuid M is either a manager, or the new chef himself.
I also had stopped going to the Beagle because how awful it was, but then I heard about the renovation, and new chef.   We decided to give it another try.
On the renovation front, I will give them kudos.  It is much nicer than it was before, but still retains the comfy neighborhood pub feel.  I don't like the dining side as much though, because the bright kitchen is too much in your face.
Now the food, well despite their new 'chef' as they claim, the food shows no improvement.  It is absolute crap.  I've been twice to give it the benefit of the doubt, before saying anythin.  The burgers taste like the standard cheap frozen burgers on a wonderbread bun.
The fries are disgusting greasy and ugly.  And the lamb dip is dry bland, and has no gaminess to it all...I question whether it even is lamb.  And the au jus tasted like dirty water.
So, I would recommend the Beagle if you are going to drink only, and not touch the food.  If you're hungry, absolutely DO NOT GO HERE!

It's like any average pub. There's a lot more university students. Nothing stood out except how busy & crowded it gets during a game. Their salads are fresh & their burgers are good!

I'm personally not a fan of many of the pubs on Broadway.  But in a category with some stiff competition for worst, Regal Beagle is up there.  The bar feels like it is divided between two rooms, which makes each barely feel full.  It gets fairly busy on weeknights and the bouncers in true, predictable fashion hold people outside despite a rather empty interior.  The music is just awful.  You may get the occasional classic rock tune you'll enjoy, but these are few.  The food is beyond description.  The bar is a food primary license, which means that after two drinks you are required to order food.  We did so, a pizza. I think it was a pizza.  Mind you, I only say this because it was somewhat circular.  Otherwise it was half cooked doe, covered in sauce likely from a can and had a pound of soggy cheese.  No one ate it, not one slice.  If you live next door you'll probably come for a drink, otherwise avoid.
