Wanted to buy a used car, so I went to Reg Midgley motors based on an advertised offer. First thing they said was that the advertised cars were sold in the first hour after the ad, but directed me to several expensive vehicles instead.
Found one I liked, and negotiated a fair price based on blue book values with the salesman. I wanted to have a mechanic a block away check it out, but the salesman said their company does not allow inspections, but assured me that they had looked it over themselves.
So the salesman hands me off to the next person, who says the first guy shouldn't have made the deal - had to renegotiate with him. Got back to the deal I wanted after much haggling, and he took a 10% downpayment with the rest to be paid when the ownership transfers.
Handed over to a third person to handle the paperwork. And again - oops! the second guy did it wrong so we have to renegotiate a third time. Finally got back to the original price, for the third time, and paid the remaining amount.
Then number four employee realizes that - gosh darn it they forgot to include the transfer fees and I would have to pay another $150 if I wanted to get my car. It was supposed to be included in the price I negotiated, and each time I negotiated I made clear that the price I offered was for all fees included. But the three guys who I had dealt with had magically disappeared from the building.
At this point I was really tempted to cancel payment and let the courts deal with it, but I think the shop got a little nervous of that possibility because when I suggested it they suddenly were willing to negotiate some more.
Total time to pick out a car, less than 30 minutes. Total time to get the paperwork done, over three hours. I thought about giving them one star, but it is a nice car and so that counts for something.
This company proves every stereotype you have ever heard about used car dealers.
