Well I kind of feel I have been not truthful... I thought I would not be eating out for another 4 weeks due to my ketosis regimen,

    BUT

my trainer reminded me today that I am allowed on cheat meal a week, and I missed mine last week!!

So where do I catch up for lost time  for my cheat meal??? Where do I crave out anywhere in this city?

    RED ROBIN!!!     red robin?????  yep.

This afternoon I had one big craving for a cheeseburger deluxe with steak fries, and diet coke no less. YUM YUM YUM. I have loved this burger since I was a teen. It's the only thing I have ever ordered at Red Robins. Today's cheat meal did not disappoint.

Burger: Juicy patty, love the relish and fixin's. To die for!
Fries: Hot, salty and seasoned... perfect.
Service: attentive, friendly and 3 refills on the diet coke and lemon, one refill on the fries.

KEY POINT: some of the other stuff on the menu doesn't look so good. Burgers here are the reason to come.

hmmmm now it's time to digest...

    until next weeks cheat meal!

Yikes... I can't keep doing this.

I can't keep eating at places I hate because my friends want to. When I was a teeny-ager many moons ago, this was it. This was the place to go... I don't know why. We came to meet some friends who were already mid-meal. We sat... and sat some more... the server did not materialize for some time and it was only to tell us he was going home. Okay, but then he stayed and kept serving other tables for a good hour.

We ordered from the server who took over and when we got out food, we had to wait an extra long time for cutlery. I was okay because I just had a burger, I just needed a napkin. My husband on the other hand needed at least a fork to eat his lasagna. I would have been okay with wrestling the fork out of my friend's hand who was still using it, but he would not be okay with that.

The food was okay. My burger was okay. I can't/won't eat that many fries so the draw of bottomless doesn't really fly with me. They have lots of good non-alcoholic drinks... I dunno. I just... I think this place would be awesome in the summer because of the huge patio.

Red Robin, I will never hate you.
Others have tried to convince me otherwise, but I shun their negativity.

From my first visit to the old Thurlow and Alberni location, I was hooked.
Back then, I had only lived here for a short time, and it was my first restaurant experience in Vancouver. I was 17. It took care of of my teen business like you wouldn't believe. I remember my first order. A Big-mouth burger with fries, Pepsi and a Monster mud pie. The Pepsi and fries were bottomless. I was speechless.

I grew up, I progressed into university, got used to enjoying their hot wings, onion rings, milkshakes, then onto beer, the gooey cheese sticks, the southwestern salad, fajitas, and pretty much tried everything else on the menu over the years.
Nothing's changed at Red Robin. They'll get some flack for it, but the decor is still relatively the same. I don't mind it. It's a fond reminder of a more care-free time. Perhaps you'd had to have experienced the joys of a Red Robin trip as a young'un to appreciate the predictability and safeness of the menu 20+ years later. It's a staple. I always know that there'll be no surprises. If there's a problem, they'll try to fix it.
I love bringing my little niece here, and I love bringing my parents here. It's a no-brainer when those types of demographics are at play.

Apart from a couple of bad experiences relating solely to the inexperience of individual staff, or forgivable mistakes in the kitchen, there have been no major shortfalls over the years in the customer experience. It's not fine dining, but it's not without an attempt at good service either. Think of it as a training ground for young staff, and with a consistent menu.

If you need a reason to change your mind, here are a few:
The Onion Rings. Yes, capital letters. I don't think anyone does it better. Actually I'll stand behind this. I think they are the best in town, bar none. And they make me giggle out loud when that tower arrives at the table.
The patio on Oak Street is amongst the best in the area.
A variety of burgers that few places can match. This coming from a not-so-big fan of burgers.
    Bottomless pop and fries.

The menu has been re-incarnated in a slightly shrunken form several times since those first visits I made. I did not like the removal of the Eggs Broadway burger a decade ago, but so be it. Most restaurants make much more dramatic changes over that period of time. As for the appeals to renovate, be careful what you wish for. Do you really want Red Robin to become the next Cactus Club? I say tidy it up, keep dusting off those airbrushed posters of  Duck Tales and the Lamborghini Countach and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The location is great, the food is greasy, the seats are comfy, the tunes are decent, the staff is good, they have televisions, and they have a huge alcohol selection....aka, this is the best place to hang out hungover ever!!! I have only been once since I moved to Van and me and my friend were haggard as shit after a hard night of being fabulous. We wanted something greasy and good and I hadnt had a burger in months! We ventured in here and ate till out hearts content, everything was delicious and even had a mint chocolate milkshake to top it off, yum, yum. after a solid meal and a few drinks my hangover magically disappeared. Not that its only good for hangovers, im sure burger and fries lovers would enjoy the quality food anytime. I just only happen to eat food like this when im hungover so thats my story and im stickin to it....like the onion rings in my stomach.

I would probably eat here again. The fish sandwich was very well put together, with good veggies protecting the bun from getting soggy, and a tasty tartar sauce. The fish breading was crispy and the fish was firm.

Fries were the large style, if you like that.

Sports on the TV, snappy service, and a convenient location rounded out a good dinner.

Came by for some burgers and good times.

Strangely enough, it wasn't that busy, even on a weekday at noon.  The patio was completely empty.

One of my favourite things about this location is the great view you have of Robson and Thurlow.  You can watch everyone slave away in the rat race while you enjoy your food.  Oh, and there's a great covered patio out back.

Today I had a Red Chili Chili Burger.  They suggest that you use a knife and fork, and they are absolutely right.  The chili was quite heavy, with plenty of diced red onions.  I've also had other burgers here, but the one that always sticks out is the Whiskey RIver BBQ Burger.  The sauteed onions are to die for.

I've had their strawberry lemonade and this thing is good.  However, you can also tell it's been sweetened quite a bit, so hopefully you don't end up like Steve Jobs after having a few of these.  Bottomless drinks always feel good.  The staff are quite good with the refills.  They give you a replacement before you actually run out.

I don't come by here too often because parking sucks (aka non-existent), but on a workday, it's a nice change of pace.

I actually resent the fact they have such a good burger because this place is an atrocious excuse for a resturant. There is not one good thing about it, minus the burgs. Honestly Red Robin...if you stop doing the guac bacon burg, I can guarentee you business will collapse into a pathetic hole of dispair.

...Why must I love burger so much...?

I had my first burger in 14 years here. Meh.

As a Yelper I have no real excuse for eating in here, it's a chain and a bad chain at that. But it was a typically beautiful Vancouver day (read: hammering rain) and I wanted food without having to go look for it.

I kinda felt like I was a kid again, big booths, plastic menus (and not in the cutesy, kitsch 1950s diner way) and fried foods. The lack of anything remotely vegetarian appealing led me to trying the burger, with blue cheese, crispy onions and bottomless fries. Even in the states, I've not seen bottomless fries. Hello Canada, it's obesity calling!

The burger was fine, oversized and not particularly good meat. Even as a vegetarian I could tell it was gristly, yuck. It was enough to get me back on the veggie wagon. Bad milkshake too. Friendly staff though.

They have a burger with "Canadian processed cheese."

Being the dunce I am, it took me a minute to realize they really meant American Cheese.

The words romance and Red Robin are not synonymous.  The words bottomless fries, Tom Selleck  and awesome are.    If you enjoy milkshakes this is also a fairly solid spot.

Decent prices, and a wide selection that will please pretty much anybody Red Robin is surprisingly tasty, with excellent service.  Our server was prompt, knew virtually everything on the menu, and was kind to boot.

I was deeply won over with Funky Town playing in the bathroom.  I don't know, it may just be my love of funk but if I'm washing my hands to one of the best beats in the world the place gets two stars minimum.

Their cheap prices and second floor location offering views over Robson always win me over when I have a sudden pang of hunger shopping Robson.

It's cheap sandwiches/burgers & salads and they're generally pretty hearty in size.  The endless fries coupled with that insanely delicious Red Robin seasoning they have will have you strangely craving them shortly after filling yourself up here.

Service is surprisingly good for a restaurant of this style and although rather uninspiring the decor is basic and comfortable for a meal after a long day shopping.

My neighborhood haunt of choice. Oh sure, there's the Fogg and Sudds across the street, but I'm willing to go one more block for some Red Robin goodness.
I almost am never dissapointed when I climb the stairs to this place. I usually have one of two things, a red robin classic burger, which has an egg on it and is almost heaven, or the whiskey river chicken burger which is also amazing. You get lots of steak fries, with refills. go great with that coke you're drinking. Service is always good here too. Love coming here.

The menu here is the same as any other Red Robin: gourmet burgers, plus a few other options, like salads, fish and chips, or fajitas. (I was pleased to see potato skins back on the menu.) The burgers are definitely a notch above what you'd find at a fast food place, although the price is much higher, too, so you're probably getting just about the same amount of pleasure per dollar.

I will say that the staff here, while just as relentlessly friendly as in other Red Robins, are definitely more on the ball than the staff at the Marine Drive location in North Vancouver.

There are stairs to get up to the restaurant level from the Thurlow Street side, but there is also an elevator, for those who have problems with the stairs.

Not really sure why I feel it necessary to write something tonight but I think if a place does a good job they should get a prop (insert plug here for http://www.propadoo.com)

Sometimes you just want a burger, in a loud annoying restaurant where at any point the staff could break out into a happy birthday for an unlucky little 8 year old name Timmy (just like in Waiting)

Get the Guac and Bacon burger! It is constantly amazing!
The four of us split a tower of onion rings, I am not sure if you pay more for the tower but the rings are great, i think they are pre done and not hand made but still very good portion of onion to batter ratio

I feel that this burger joint out does some others around the city. Enjoy and keep that burger diaper wrapped tight, it is not there for decoration it is a vital part of the experience.

Red Robin is a reasonably priced, mediocre place that is usually convenient and they are consistent if they are nothing else.

Not many places along Robson boast a full-sized patio, so we stopped here, ordered mediocre chicken wings, a turkey burger that was fine with bottomless wedge fries, and bottomless ice tea & lemonades, and left satisfied.

    Interior is looking very tired.

Turnoff - it never feels super-clean.

Red Robin is a classic burger choice. The food is delicious and most importantly these days, reasonably priced! Not to mention the bottomless fries!

Hello? Are you hungry? Go to Red Robin. I have been there extremely hungry, thinking I would probably order 2 more rounds of fries but can rarely barely finish my first. What does that mean? A HUGE EFFING BURGER!

The service is also great, out of all the times I've been there, which is a lot, I've probably had only one bad experience.

Oh, and try the guacamole burger, its awesome

Ok I am right now having a really late lunch with my sister and I am sad to report that it is not vegan friendly at all. The garden burger has cheese in the patty and every salad has meat in it. At least the server knows her stuff, she saved me the trouble of asking. I am going to consume the only healthy option that is vegan: side garden salad.

Mediocre burgers and unlimited fries. That pretty much sums up Red Robins. My last visit (last ever) was a terrible exhibition of poor service and management. A server spilled salad dressing on my jacket, did not apologize. I confronted the manager and he stumbled to find a wet cloth. No apology from him either. At first he suggested I take it to the dry cleaners and bring back the bill (waste of my time), I finally got him to write off my meal bill. Eek.

Red Robin is ok. Really, the word that comes to mind when I think of this place is "adequate." It's adequate. The burgers are adequate. The fries are adequate. The service is adequate. The only thing that stands out for me is the strawberry lemonade, which is actually pretty great. But I could probably do that myself at home by cutting up some strawberries and putting them in lemonade, and I just can't seem to think of any other reason to come here instead of, say, White Spot, which is only a few blocks away.

Typical modern diner restaurant, kind of like Boston Pizza with the atmosphere but burger oriented. Burgers are very tasty, I love the ones with the greasy battered and fried onion bits! Fries are bottomless, but they don't give many at once so it is really not much different than eating at a pub that gives you mounds of fries on the first serving (which is more than all I can eat, but it is nice to have continuous fresh fries rather than a pile of cold fries left on your plate.
