So Violet P and I show up at Red Robin at around suppertime a couple of Saturdays ago. Needless to say it was busy. The prepubescent maitre d' told us that it would be about a ten minute wait. No problem. After standing with the rest of the sausage factory by the restaurant's entrance for about five minutes (Red Robin seriously needs a bigger waiting area) we noticed that there were tables open in their bar/lounge area. We asked Justin Bieber if we could just sit there. "Yeah, you can sit there too," he says. Why didn't he just tell us that when we walked in? Not everybody needs to sit in the restaurant itself.

Anyway, the 5 Alarm Burger™ made it all worthwhile. Pepper-Jack cheese, jalapeños, and salsa all competing to give me the best heart attack money can buy. I asked them to hold back the veggies and mayo as always. I'm a big fan of the Whiskey River® BBQ Burger too but they have a tendency to drown that one in too much BBQ sauce. The last time I ordered that burger® I could have swam in it. We got the Towering Onion Rings™ as an appetizer. I usually like to order one of their milkshakes too but I didn't have room on this night. The Mint Brownie shake makes me want to jump on Oprah's couch.

I like the big fries that come with their burgers. Red Robin used to be really good about refilling the fries when you were getting low but they don't seem to do that anymore. Now you have to clap your hands or blow a trumpet or something to bring attention to the fact that you need your fries replenished. I'd like to see the CEO of Red Robin on "Undercover Boss" trying to get his bottomless fries.

Our waiter, AJ, was awesome, well except for the fry thing, but that's not just him. He treated us like guests in his home and made us feel welcome. We had warm fuzzies. Still do.

    1st time at this location;

My friend and I went to this location for dinner on a Friday night; it was fairly busy.

Upon entering, the interior looks pretty awesome and bright.

There were 5 teens (I'm assuming all around 14 or 15) all standing around the hostess stand fooling around, as we approached to be acknowledged for a table a few of them sighed, rolled their eyes and scattered in different directions while one of them actually took down our name and told us the wait time.

After about 10 minutes of waiting, we were seated by someone else.

The waiter came in a timely manner and over the night was consistent with refilling our drinks, checking up on us and bringing out our food.  We really appreciated the attentiveness he took with us on a fairly busy night.

Surprisingly portion sizes were quite small,

Overall; the waiter was amazing and the food was okay.

    2nd time at this location;

My co-workers and I went to this location for a congratulatory lunch.

The hostess argued with us because we did not want to be sat in the lounge area.

The person who seated us (around the age of 15 or 16) smelled strongly of marijuana and looked like he might have been under the influence.

We all assume that the waitress was extremely new; like first day new but we have no clue as she never mentioned it and we hardly saw her.

    - She took out drink orders almost 10 - 15 minutes after being sat which came about 10 minutes later.

    - She never came back for us to order our appetizers; we had to flag down a passing waitress (who happened to be the supervisor) to actually place our order for appetizers.  Which came out about 45 minutes later.

    - She came by about 20 minutes later and asked if all we wanted were appetizers; which we didn't because we wanted to also order our actual meals.

    - We received our food after about a half hour by another person who apologized for it being a bit of a wait and were almost completely done before she came by again asking us how our "first bites" were and that may only be because we all voiced a consensus as to whether she was purposely ignoring us and she potentially overheard.

    - The waitress had passed by our table multiple times without even a glance or any heed to our voiced requests for refills, etc.  We had to continually get passing waiters and waitresses to get our orders.

    - We noticed that she stood around a lot of the time talking to other employees and it wasn't busy at all.

    - It took us about 10 minutes just to flag her down for the bill.

Due to her poor service we did not tip her although we did tip the food server as we appreciated his service.  Upon leaving, the waitress was noticeably upset and voiced it loudly to her co-workers.

Overall; the food was okay, the service was really poor, the wait times were ridiculous and to be honest we would never go to this location again, ever.

*We did send in a complaint to their head office with no response yet.

Red Robin is a great compromise when you're dining with somebody else who isn't  the most adventurous when it comes to dining out.

This location is close to my office and the West Edmonton Mall. I've been here twice - the food is on par with all of the other locations, but I've found that the service at this location has been friendly, if a little clumsy sometimes.

But they still understand that you're under a time crunch when you're lunching and the food comes out pretty quickly.

And oddly, I think I enjoy the chicken sandwiches here more than I enjoy the actual burgers.

Where to begin...   The burgers would appear to have shrunk and certainly aren't the impressive thick burgers that they were in the past.  The cheese sticks are almost half the size that they used to be and are now at least 3 bucks more.

All in all I left feeling very disappointed for the amount it cost and very unsatisfied with the quality of food.

It would appear that they are surviving on their previous reputation and cutting costs by reducing the quality of their food.

We typically go to the Red Robins downtown but have tried the westend location a few times. The food is great; with many different types of burgers to chose from including turkey, fish, chicken, and beef. This time I decided to have the chicken teriyaki burger with a chicken breast topped with a pineapple and ample sauce. The sauce can be too much and make the bun soggy but it's quite tasty. The fries are one of my favourite as I prefer the thick cut. The best part is they are all you can eat! The service is at times questionable and some of the servers haven't been friendly or don't refill drinks promptly. But that is minor if the food is delicious!

I love the food here.  That said, here is a brief list of pro's and con's...

Pro's - the decor is fun and classic. The food is very consistent in quality and the bottomless drinks (non-alcoholic of course) and fries make it a great place to meet friends and chill.

Con's - service, while friendly, is very slow.  The kitchen always appears to be backlogged, though there's always a swarm of people in and around it.  To top it off, it's usually quite chilly.  Perhaps the latter is a deterrent for those who would meet friends and sit around.

I highly recommend Red Robin if your able to wait for a table and a server.

Good burgers but the kitchen isn't sufficiently staffed for peak times.  You tend to wait a lot for average food.  It's not a bad place to go later in the evening if you crave a burger and a shake.

Darn good food...delivered fast.  Down side had to wait about 10 mins. Although many empty tables.  Once seated no tables were cleaned (4 tables had heaps of dirty dishes on them only 2 were clean - our table was very sticky) husbands drink was refilled no question, mine and my son's never even looked at.  I ended up drinking husbands refilled drink.
