Review from Kimli W.
My friends laugh at me when I suggest Red Robin, but sometimes you just want to eat something familiar. I've always been a fan of Red Robin, and of this location in particular. It's never insanely busy, the prices are consistent, and while the service can be spotty at times, I can deal. Not every meal has to be pretentious, and RRs is cheap and good and fast.
They recently changed from Pepsi to Coke, which goes a very long way in improving my mood as well! -

I visited recently with my brother and sister-in-law. Some of my favourite items (Cajun chicken strips, potato skins, and those amazing banana splits made with deep-fried bananas) are still missing from the menu, although I was pleased to see that they have finally ditched the marinara sauce with the gooee cheese sticks, and brought back the red pepper jelly. (Marinara sauce? Come on, guys. What part of "boring" didn't you understand?)
New on the menu was a turkey burger, so I decided to pass on the Banzai burger (which is my usual choice) and try that instead. I love Turkey burgers, but I don't remember ever seeing them on offer in a restaurant before. Red Robin's is perfectly competent, but it's missing something to put it over the top like their other burgers. (What, I couldn't say. Maybe cranberry sauce? Chutney? Ajvar? Just... something to make it special.)
As for the service, well, it must have been a bad night. Even though the place wasn't even close to being full, our service was slow and, well, not terribly attentive. Generally, I hover between 3 and 4 stars for Red Robin. In this case, I'm torn between 2 and 3. -

Generally, I find Red Robin meets my requirements for family dining pretty well - a reasonable menu of simple food served promptly by attentive staff. At least, that's the case with the location we usually go to in Vancouver.
Unfortunately, on the occasion we visited the North Vancouver location we were disappointed. This location seems to be suffering from the problem that can afflict any chain restaurant - inconsistent management. The impression I got was that the management on duty lacked the commitment to efficiency and quality that I'm used to, and it manifested itself in inconsistent, disinterested service, lukewarm coffee and burgers just the wrong side of 'done'. If they don't already have one, I think Red Robin need to implement a mystery customer program to keep an eye on things. If they do already have one, then it's not working well. -

The interior of the Red Robin hasn't changed at all in the last 20 years. They've finally replaced some of that poster art with stuff that isn't faded out by sunlight, but otherwise the basic decorating concept remains "lots of crazy crap on the walls."
Unfortunately, the food and presentation doesn't seem to be holding up as well. We went recently in the early evening for burgers. I always remembered their portions as being huge, but we were served small-ish burgers with large portions of un-tasty fries. There weren't even dishes, just plastic baskets lined with waxed paper. What is this, the Dixie Lee? I thought. It was a fast-food meal at sit-down restaurant prices. Ecchh.
