As a Unicorn Afficionado, I'd be hard-pressed to dislike a store named for another mythical equine. Red Pegasus is a fantastic spot to grab a gift, especially if you are completely clueless on what to get. You WILL find her a gift here.
I had no idea what to get my sister for her birthday so I dropped by here. There is lots to choose from. Jewelry, housewares, beauty supplies, books, notebooks, bags, toys for kids, and an impressive selection of greeting cards. They also had a sales rack with some pretty good finds at a discount. The distribution of reviews on this page should make clear: this is a dame-focused store. Aside from some of the booze-oriented stuff and a few bags, it is harder to shop for the man in your life here. Unless he really likes baths.
The store itself isn't very large, but that's almost a blessing. It will take you no more than nine minutes traverse the entire shop and look at all the merchandise, which means with the requisite two rotations and some time to mull things over, you can be in and out in 30 minutes. No horsing around, just some pure gifting action.
Obligatory Title Pun: This NEIGH-bourhood giftshop has got you PEG-ged.
Menu Readability: Let me comment on their greeting cards. Cute.
Need to mention: The cashier asked me if my purchases were a gift, and 60 seconds later my package was totally prettified. Very helpful for dudes who can't wrap stuff.
What this place teaches me about myself: I can't wrap stuff. -

This was my first time in the store. As other Yelpers have mentioned, it's definitely a good place to go to get gift ideas.
The sales staff there isn't bad either - one salesgirl was kind enough to come over to help (probably because she saw the bewildered look on my face after 20 minutes of looking around the store, with nothing in hand) and made some suggestions for gift ideas under $25.
However, having already been to Blue Banana Market and The Outer Layer, I was kind of expecting something a bit different - it was a bit too much like the other two. -

I've gotta say this place is an awesome place to go when looking for gifts for females. You've got lots of really cool and original stuff that is perfect for girlfriends, sisters, nieces, cousins, friends, moms, whatever.
There is a large variety of jewelry which was all at surprisingly good prices, and also lots of cool knick-knacks, figurines, housewares, purses, etc. Definitely lots of great independent designs and pieces which help make for one-of-a-kind gifts! They've also got tons of unique cards which is good if you're tired of the usual Hallmark classics.
Not much for dudes here aside from the robot figures which are pretty cool, but this is hands down one of the best places to get stuff for females! -

This is place has always been and will always be my go-to last-minute I'm-a-huge-jerk-and-forgot-to-get-this-person-a-gi ft store.
They have great greeting card selection; pretty/cute cards for a girlfriend or mom (or grandma or auntie or boyfriend's mom) and silly and/or somewhat offensive cards for pals (or in my case mom, dad, brother and grandma). My grandma likes the one with the kitten with the cigarette in it's mouth. "Isn't it a SCREAM?"
For kids they have a bunch of cute stuffed animals (I bought someone's baby Max from 'Where The Wild Things Are' once) and some awesome little wind-up toys (probably more appropriate for the kid-a-heart than for an actual kid).
Oh man and if you ever need to buy a gift for someone you don't know very well they have tons of fancy soaps and lotions and whatnot. The perfect "I have no idea what you like but here's something pretty and soapy because everybody likes pretty things and also needs to bathe" gift.
So there's that.
On a more personal note: This one time when I was 12 I was in here buying earrings for my mom (as I do every year) the girl at the counter said, "YOU HAVE AMAZING EYEBROWS PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T EVER PLUCK THEM!!!!" (She had very over-plucked, ultra-thin, pencilled-in brows.) I found this thoroughly terrifying and only mildly flattering at the time, but thanks to her I still have these giant eyebrows that draw attention away from the rest of my face. So thanks, lady who worked at Red Pegasus when I was 12!

Quirky store full of those things that you didn't know you wanted until you saw them. Cute housewares, bath+body care, local jewelry, cards, baby toys, bags, and all around gift stuff.
A great place to go if you're stumped for ideas on what to get someone - something always seems to jump out at me here.
I have a laptop bag that I bought here a few years ago - I still get stopped by people asking me where I got it. Great selection! -

Definitely a "girl's store" as one of the previous yelpers stated...but there's nothing wrong with that. Great selection of jewelry by toronto designers. Perfect place to find birthday presents and neat greeting cards. Also has a small but fun toy/game assortment. The two girls working that day were SO helpful and humored me while it took me a good 20 minutes to pick out necklaces for a friend. They also wrote down all their favorite coffee shops and bars in the area for me to check out while I was in Toronto. How nice is that?
Found some really neat magnets and salt and pepper shakers. Reasonably priced. Cute boxes and wrapping for gifts. -

This store has never failed me whenever I needed a girly birthday gift for a friend or a cool baby gift for a the mom-to-be. They carry a really funky and unique selection of jewellery, purses and wonderful smelly creams and candles. Whenever I walk in to buy a quick gift for someone I ALWAYS end up spending money on something for myself, as though I need more stuff!
A nice little perk is that they will put your jewellery into a giftbox with tied with ribbon. Nice! I absolute hate the standard sickly, sweet Hallmark greeting cards and Red Pegasus has a great selection of fun cards. The only reason I couldn't give it a 5 stars is one: it can often be the same goods on the shelves for a while so I will walk in and walk out since I have seen everything already, although it's not really their fault. Get out and support them! 2: It seems that whenever I walk in there are always staff hanging out at the cash talking. I am always greeted so I can't say I'm not acknowledged but I am not a fan of staff who stand around and chat. -

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, especially when it comes to shopping/gift giving/etc. We all have different tastes and personal experiences that drive these ideas and I can understand Mike S's Red Pegasus review. (Everyone I know loves that TLC show 'Jon and Kate plus 8' and I can't stand it...)
So, while I applaud Mike S. for bringing Red Pegasus up for review, I have to disagree with him and hope my review will bring it more to light.
For some, I can see that little knick knacks and funky jewelery may be useless, but I'd hate to say that when they've been created by the efforts of hard working artists trying to make a living from these objects being displayed, and hopefully, sold.
Yes, I agree that Red Pegasus is an expensive store; but for a unique gift idea (for instance, their jewelery, journals and housewares are lovely) it's a definite hit. Having a one-of-a-kind or rare item can be special for some.
There is nothing saying that shelling out more cash will make someone's gift better (definitely not). It's the thought that counts, and Red Pegasus is a gift store that will make that special someone smile from your efforts.
Aside from the personal sentiment, Red Pegasus has been around for about 10 years and if you are looking for a store that offers unique gifts, it may be the store for you. -

Maybe it's a girl thing, but I love this store too.
Yes, as I've mentioned before, the city does seem inundated with novelty gifty items and the stores that feature them. Still, I feel that the ones I have entered all have their place, their neighbourhood to brighten up, and certain things that make them stand out.
Red Pegasus takes care of Little Italy's need for those sassy "I'm Saving Up!" banks, and Jesus-branded anything, as well as some funky jewelry and accessories for the urban baby. I always find myself drawn into their cosmetics wall, which has a pretty cool selection of stylish scents and bath products and funky chapstick galore. They also sometimes have some good stuff displayed on the sidewalk and on sale- I always regret leaving behind the wall-paper border featuring photos of Berlin. See? Novel *and* functional (it was also only $15)!
Oh, and last time I shopped there, I got some on-sale Valentine's Day items (yes, almost 3 weeks *before* the holiday, which is mighty useful), and a FREE day planner (yes, only two weeks after the new year), but I doubt they have any left by this time. Still, pretty kickass. -

I love this store. everything there is really cute, and some of it even practical. it's my go-to store for girly gifts. the jewelery selection is great and the pricing is fair. I especially love the Toronto based Zippan Designs jewelery. i've been saving up my pennies for their anatomical heart necklace.
the staff here are consistently friendly and helpful. I bought a pair of earrings here last year and after losing one of them I came back to buy a new pair. they didn't have them in stock but they took down my name and number, called me up when they got more in, and put them aside for me until I was able to come in and buy them. -

Soooo this is pretty much one of those made by girls for girls stores. I have no idea what the theme of this place is except that they had some stationary cards and gift ideas but it ranged from baby toys to jewelery to mugs that say "I'm a princess". I just didn't get it but hey it kept my sister looking through the place for a good 10 minutes so maybe it's a girls thing.
Warning cash only for purchases under $10. -

I had no idea that there were so many "eccentric" stores in Toronto but they are all equally inane and useless. Red Pegasus is a hybrid stationary shop with skin care items as well as gag gifts for those who think that they're gifted. The store is nice but when I went the counter help seemed to be far more interested in their selves than in interacting with the public. I will admit that I did like their stuffed Jesus with a WWID bracelet (although the amusing Jesus gift is kinda getting played out) and their Freudian Slippers which would be funny the first time but not ha ha funny. I wouldn't really recommend this store because it's not very good and while they think that they have interesting things to sell, it's all pretty boring.

Ahhhh the "eccentric" store. I really don't find anything "eccentric" about this store, and I'm going to have to agree with Emily that Red Pegasus is great.
As much as everyone wants to be the giver of a practical gift, when it comes down to it, practical gifts are not as much fun. It is much more fun to pamper someone with a gift they don't actually NEED but will definitely love. Red Pegasus is the place to find these kind of gifts. Some will be silly, some may even be stupid, but there will be thought put into it and the person will know you care. Awwww.
Red Pegasus has all sorts of fun gift ideas, as well as locally made products from jewelry to home decor. It's a great place to support Toronto artists, or to find the perfect gift. And it's close to a lot of good restaurants so you can grab delicious food after :)
