We absolutly adore this cosy restaurant.
Its small, intimate and romantic. The food is amazing, the drinks are wonderful and the service is great.
Its pricey, but worth it for a special evening!
We will definetly be going back! -

Worth every penny. And it may take a few. Small, intimate restaraunt with exceptional service. Food is always excellent. I recently had the pheasant and it was one of the best things I've put in my mouth. This restaraunt will always be a favorite. Cheers.

This place has sensational service. Although the restaurant itself is tiny the atmosphere is intimate and romantic. The food is incredible. I tried the pheasant and my boyfriend had the venison. Both dishes were very different from one another and were delicious. The wine selection is impeccable.
The waiter was happy to explain the menu and make suggestions for wines and entrees to try.
Definitely worth the money if you're looking for a fancy night out. -

My Girl Friends and I (there are 5 of us) go out once a month trying different (locally owed) restaurants and this was on our to do list! We had heard that it was one of the best. We all agree!
We had a most amazing time ! We laughed, we drank, we ate! Our servers made the experience all that much better by engaging us in just the right amount of chit chat and laughter!
This place is small and intimate - not really flashy in it's decor, but comfortable. The tables are far enough apart that you can have a good conversation without worrying about the table next to you hearing everything.
We'll be going back! -

I'm surprised that there wasn't more review for this place.
Red Ox Inn is one of Edmonton best hidden gems, located on a weird strip mall in an older neighborhood, it is definitely quaint. But don't let the building deceive you, it's a tiny restaurant with a lot of character and world class cuisine.
I have been to the 3 stars Michelin restaurants in NYC, among other places, and I can say that in terms of the quality of food, Red Ox Inn is probably on par with those world class restaurants, which is very rare and hard to find in Edmonton. -

Delicious. Pricey but worth it. The only complaint I had was that we ordered the bread pudding and they gave us the end price which is just crust. Usually this is cut off and not served in restaurants. The shrimp appetizers and beef entree is delicious.

By far, the most delicious restaurant in Edmonton. The food selection changes based on the season, but I promise the menu will never fail you. The waitstaff is very accommodating and know their wine and food menus like the back of their hands, it may not seem like a huge deal but when your waiter can make your mouth water while describing an entree....I'm pretty sure that's five star worthy.

3.5 stars for me.
It's been many years since I've been back to the Red Ox Inn. I'm back in Edmonton for a weekend and this was the place others chose.
It's generally considered one of the better restos in Edmonton but I've eaten here 3 times now, and honestly, it's only a 3.5 star. It's a good resto on many levels, but I'm surprised that the things I didn't like about it 2+ years ago are the same stuff I still don't care for now.
Pros:
- Central but not totally mainstream location on a side street in Bonnie Doon means easy to find and free parking!
- Menu is very consistent with the 'specials' that vary.
- Food is quite solid - our group had a variety of appys and my warm goat cheese salad was delicious. Presentation of the salad could be improved. Mains in our group varied from a veggie option (not on menu), the special of the day (alaskan cod/sablefish), tenderloin and I had the duck breast. Duck was nicely done and well trimmed with good flavor, but the sides were lacking.
- Dessert was good - I shared the pecan tart with someone and it was excellent. It's a thinner crust with a higher peacn to corn syrup base ratio and was very enjoyable. The warm chocolate cake was also lovely.
Cons:
- Service is still lacking in the resto - that was one of my pet peeves about it previously. Our server was okay, but not very engaging. He gave the impression we should be ordering more, since many of us elected not to get dessert. That annoyed me, esp. since we had bought one of their priciest wines on the menu
- Wine list is okay. We went with a 2004 italian red amarone which was one of the worst bottles I have had at $98, and this is usually my go-to wine.
- Why the heck do they not have a bread service?
- Our reservation was for 8:15 but they did not have the table ready until 8:30-8:35 since they let the group before us stay past 8:15 - they were still sitting there when we arrived. Seriously annoying, esp, when you're standing at a crowded entry way with a large group.
- Noisy given the resto's size
Bill came to about $70 a person including wine.
Honestly, I think the resto could be improved. It hasn't changed in the 2 years I've moved away. The food is its strength, but at it's price point of mid to higher end restos, it lacks the polish and smoothness that I expect in the service. There are much better choices in Edmonton - Hardware Grill and Jack's were my go to places when I lived here - mmmm. -

Took my husband out for his birthday supper and totally enjoyed it! The food was very flavourful -- fresh, hot and presented very nicely. We would totally go back again...possibly new favourite place to eat! I had the shrimp with mango risotto and my husband had the duck -- very unique and tasty! Portions weren't huge but they were just right with a dessert -- we both had the wild blueberry and white chocolate bread pudding, which was worth going back for all by itself.
