I stayed here for 2 different conventions and conferences. I was not particularly happy with the hike to my room BUT I liked the spread out feel of the hotel. At the time of my stay I had recently worked for the Red Lion and knew industry standards and recognized genuine courtesy and customer service.
My food was ok, standard hotel food. Chain hotels can not change their standard menus.. but thsi one is close to a fast food place which supplied me a salad bar and baked potatoe.
I try to find solutions in travel. -

Okay, let's see...where should I begin?
Service throughout this hotel was friendly and helpful. The food at Ripples (their one and only restaurant/cafe) was mediocre at best. The cheese on the nachos had hardened before the plate got to our table. The scrambled eggs are a bit dried. Their All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet was a huge disappointment. Not much to offer you compared to other hotels I've been to. However, their alcoholic drinks are great and reasonably priced for what you get.
As far as their hotel rooms, always ask if they have something on the first level unless you don't mind carrying your luggage up two flights of stairs. There is NO elevator. Why? I don't know the answer to that question, but it seems pretty lame not to have an elevator. My room did not have the sign that told me what to do with dirty towels. In other hotels, if they see you've used a towel, they will simply replace it. I understand the whole movement to be more green, but I'd appreciate a note telling me how to get fresh towels nonetheless. Also, before I took my first shower at this hotel, I noticed someone else's hair in the bathtub. The maid's? The last customer's? GROSS. I grabbed a tissue and cleaned up the hair. This led me to believe what was revealed in shows that bring hidden cameras into places like this....do the maids really clean the rooms, or do they simply wipe out the used glasses, and rinse the tubs, but not scrub them with soap?
Also, unless you don't mind going hiking, be prepared to walk a long way to your room. My room was on the 2nd level (so I hauled my heavy bags up the stairs--remember...NO ELEVATOR) and way in the back. When my friends who were also staying here for a convention, asked me where my room was located I said, "You walk up the stairs, down two hallways, past the tennis courts, down another long hallway, past the swimming pool, down another two hallways, and when you see the 'Welcome to Idaho State' sign, you are there!" -

'That's what I need. A clean place, reasonably priced.'
The Red Lion Spokane sure pleases this Twin Peaks fan!
Our little menagerie (two hippies, two furry dogs) passes through Spokane at least twice a year on our pilgrimage to Missoula. An unintended consequence of this pit stop is that we've grown rather fond of Spokane. The downtown is hoppin', the food is great, and the river path offers a welcome respite to the road-weary traveler.
This past trip was our first time resting at the Red Lion, and I can definitely say that we'll be back. The hotel was situated in a great downtown location, the rooms were clean and well-appointed, and our stay was very, very quiet.
In fact, it was a little bit *too* quiet--the front desk forgot to give us our wake-up call on Friday morning! Red Lion loses a star for that. I barely made it to Missoula in time for happy hour!
Surprise Sleep-in aside, I think we'll be back. For the price, it really can't be beat.Listed in: On the Road..., Places you can stay if you…, Pit Stops

I was on the 3rd floor and couldn't see the River, but I could hear it. I knew it was out there.
PRICE: We stayed there for a couple of nights and with taxes it was $275. This was during the week. I'm not sure if the prices go up on the weekends and on holidays or certain seasons.
QUALITY: The Red Lion hotels are set up fairly standard and all the same. It was clean and there weren't any bed bugs.
HOTTIES?: I didn't see any hotties who worked there.
SWIMMING POOLS: At this one, there was an indoor and an outdoor pool, but I didn't get a chance to use either of them.
LOUNGE/BAR: They had a full on bar. One hottie was working there. One pool table. It closes by 12:30. Sort of early for me. -

What hotel doesn't have an elevator, seriously. I don't care if you only have two floors, I got heavy a$$ bags!!! I feel much better now.
The desk staff and the van driver have always been very friendly, but it wasn't enough to make up for the hotels flaws. To get to my room I had to walk a half mile, through the maze that is this hotel. I decided to go hit the gym and get my run on, unfortunately the gym is only open from 5am to 10pm. Not sure why, the pool I can understand, but let me work out when I want. I guess they consider you having to haul your bags up a flight of stairs a workout in itself. The rooms are small and the TV was like 19" . I ordered a wake up call so I could get to work on time and the phone never rang. Neither of my other co-workers received a wake up call either.
I haven't stayed at the other red lion in town but its got to be better than this one. -

Never again.
Had the same semi-shoddy room last night, only this time Priceline gave it to us for $70 a night. The kicker was the 30 year old sagging mattress and fitted sheets that came off the instant you laid down. If I had paid regular price for this room...holy cow, I would be furious.
This is a warning - be very careful when using Priceline for the downtown Spokane region - you're going to get the Red Lion, probably because no one wants to stay here and they have tons of rooms available for suckers.Listed in: Red Lion

Review from Mark S.
For $145 (including tax) a night, this motel is a bit overpriced.
The rooms are in a series of bunkers, that are in a row behind the lobby area. The structures look bleak and tawdry . The parking area looks very commercial and non-beautiful and non-inviting. Inside the hallways are very long and institutional looking.
Our room was just pretty light on the amenities. As another YeLPer says, "You open the cabinet where the refrigerator/microwave is... and it's empty! The bedside lamp, doesn't work.
The positive? Nice staff, as usual in Spokane the staff is mostly college students. There's, excellent riverside walking and hiking, close enought to walk to downtown and the park.
The rate was a bit lower than both the Marriiott next door and the Double Tree nearby, but this Red Lion motel would be better named, The Beige Alley Cat Motel.
One other tip from traveler to traveler, be aware that the Spokane area is a hot spot for speed traps and heavy traffic enforcement. It appears to be an important source for revenue, so be very careful as you drive in Spokane! You ARE being watched! -

There are 2 Red Lion hotels in the vicinity here: this Red Lion Inn and the Red Lion at the Park. I choose this Red Lion because I loved the idea of being right on the Spokane River. And was this an excellent location for a nature-lover such as myself because there had been lots of rain when I was recently up in Spokane and that river was raging! It was amazing-and coming from droughts-ville California, I loved it! The birds, wild flowers, the fresh air that smelled of trees and rich earth!
My son and I came up to attend a wedding in nearby Couer' d Alene and wished to spend some time in Spokane to check it out. Now normally I always use hotels where I can earn points on my Mileage credit card but I am so glad I chose this Red Lion. It was not as plush-looking as the local Red Lion near my home, but still just fine.
The walkway that abuts the property along the River is a great way to get around. It winds all around into the downtown area and if you go the other way-come upon a beautiful Catholic Jesuit Gonzaga University! I spend lots of time enjoying the University grounds. The gardens were spectacular as was all the statuary of Saints and angels..
The hotel itself was nothing to write home about and I wasn't crazy about having to use the stairs to get up to the 2nd floor, but I did enjoy the river views. I am usually so happy to be traveling and enjoying new experiences that I become very easy-to-please as it relates to stuff like this.
Never had a chance to eat in the restaurant but it did look good. The front desk personnel and shuttle drivers were very nice and personable, but so are most people up Washington way. I mainly stayed here for what real estate agents are always raving about: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! I can overlook minor inconveniences as what other Yelp-ers complained about if the spot is scenic and I can walk to nearby places.
In that regard, this Red Lion does nicely and I would not hesitate to come back for another visit. Just remember to request a river view room! And bring your walking shoes! -

Having stayed at the Red Lion at the Park I thought we'd try the Red Lion on the River as a change of pace. At the Park has been nothing but excellent in previous stays, the River was a different story.
Staff was always friendly but the front desk decided it was unimportant to inform me that they'd changed my room from what I had reserved. Single King reservation, double queen when we get to the room. Called the front desk and "Oh we overbooked king rooms"...nothing further. After I double checked that I wouldn't be paying for the error we said whatever its only overnight.
The TV was pathetic even by hotel standards. Its what I'd expect in a Motel 6 (mid 80's Zenith 19") but from a Red Lion? Come on, I don't want a flat screen LCD but something I can see from bed would be nice.
The minibar was curiously absent. The cabinet that was obviously intended to hold the fridge and a microwave was empty.
After an OK night sleep, I was woken up every so often by houskeeping. Not knocking on our door but on all the rooms around us and vacuuming right outside our door. I expect some amount of noise from the halls in a hotel but this was ridiculous.
Bathroom was nice, very nice shower head, but it took far far far too long for the water to come up to temperature.
We had two keys made and found that only one keycard worked. Not an inconvenience but just another annoyance.
I only rate it a two because as I said, staff was friendly. But it was not what I'd come to expect from prior stays at Red Lions. I won't be going back.
Can't speak for "Ripples" the restaurant, we ate downtown. -

Spokane, WA: this property is getting worse. Stay at the Hampton Inn (towards the airport) instead.

This hotel has got to have the most bizzare "gym" ever. One single 25lb dumbbell. What?
Rooms and hallways are dark and depressing and there is no elevator. I guess climbing the stairs can be your exercise. -

Recently my wife and I traveled to Spokane Washington to speak at a convention and do a few stories for the site and upcoming magazine. Since I was scheduled to speak at Spocon on the nearby campus of Gonzaga University, I was happy that we were booked to stay at the Red Lion River Inn.
This was our second trip to the hotel, and it was nice to enjoy a very cool and comfortable room after a day which included a 5 hr drive, an afternoon at Silverwood theme park and very warm temperatures.
Checking in was very smooth and I was grateful that the room we were assigned was located just upstairs from the front desk and did not require us to drive to any of the other wings of the hotel.
The room had a great view of the pool area and was furnished with two Queen beds, a chair, a mini fridge and desk, as well as a television and hair dryer.
The hotel does offer free internet as well as free parking and amenities which include airport transportation, a fitness center, and volleyball, horseshoe, basketball, and tennis area. Many of the rooms offer a view of the river, and the hotel is located near several restaurants and shops downtown.
The next day following a long day at the conference, we decided to try the hotel restaurant and were rewarded with patio dining which overlooked the river. To say that the view of the moon rising over the river was breathtaking would be an understatement.
The service was first rate and we enjoyed an appetizer of French fries and a bevy of dinner salads. Mine was a great mix of craisins, blue cheese crumbles, greens, chicken and apple slices. I accompanied my dinner with a pomegranate iced tea and had a very enjoyable and relaxing dinner after my hectic day.
The hotel offered a Noon checkout on Sunday and this helped us get a good start to our final day in the area as checking out was very quick.
The rooms were very comfy and allowed us to relax and enjoy the numerous amenities and pleasant staff the hotel offered.
While it would have been nice to stay longer, we had to return to the conference before our long drive home. The stay was as enjoyable as you could hope for on a business trip and I highly recommend the Red Lion River Inn when you travels take you to Spokane.

This is the "other" Red Lion. The building is old...and not in a cool vintage way, in an 80's music video way. You will feel like you're playing Wolfenstein 3D on your 386 again while wandering through long, expansive, drab corridors to find your room. The rooms are claustrophobicly tight with "nice" trim stapled to them.
