Hard sauce, that's what it felt like after the holiday season. A trip to Real Taste of India made me feel better, burst of relief ;-)
Great value, we usually go for the lunch buffet. Dal could use more spices, but the curry goat is a winner.
I have to mention the naan bread, it's fresh, light, and tasty.
Lunch for 2 set us back $30 with tip.
One thought after leaving the toilet... "Ahhh, rich aroma".

I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews and good ones for that matter. This was our last meal before we left Victoria. We ordered from the menu instead of eating at the buffet. We got complimentary roti. I didn't know what it was, but it was good and came with a variety of fruity dipping sauces. We shared some cut up samosas, a vegetarian dish, chicken marsala and I chose the chicken tikka. It was supposed to be spicy, so it ended up being an ok dish. Everything else was good though. The portions seemed small, but somehow we were so full and had a bit leftover.

Rolled the dice and gave them another shot (lunch time buffet, I can't speak to dinner service).
The food was fresher, tastier, most of my previous complaints about the food were no longer valid (not all, but most). The items were refilled quicker than previously, overall my guest and I were satisfied and found most of the food was pretty decent. They've earned their one star boost and I'll likely return.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Well I must say that first impressions are everything. Lunchtime Buffet is from 1130am-230pm and when I went in was quite busy with downtown business people trying it for Lunch rush. I will say that I was not that impressed with the Buffet, as it was very basic, and the items in the buffet were not labelled so no one knew what they were picking. There was no Nann Bread on the buffet, and it seemed to be a big request to get some which was included in the price.
I am hoping that they still need to work out the new business kinks, and it improves greatly, otherwise I will not be returning again. -

We checked out the ratings on several Indian places in Victoria before I settled on Real Taste of India. I wase warned that the place is new and the warning was accurate. The newness was apparent but not terrible. Service was friendly but the young waitress obviously didn't know the menu well. I asked about one of the appetizers and was told it was pickles. I may not be an Indian food expert but I am readily familiar with pickles and this was not pickles. Food was a bit of a wait. I ordered a dish I thought I was familiar with and was annoyed when it came and wasn't what I expected. But I found it was wonderful. Pleasant surprise. I found it a little odd to be listening to James Bond music while eating Indian food. I was also taken back when an indian man came out of a back room and started vacuuming in the middle of dinner. If you're willing to overlook some of these quirks associated with being a new business, the food is decent.
Its a five star food quality but a one star service and wait. -

The decor is nice. They have tried to give it a look and feel so that it connects with their name . The paintings on the wall are from folk artists and the sarees on the roof are a nice touch. There is a large screen TV that keeps playing hit songs from Bollywood on repeat.
I found menu to be too extensive. Since they have recently opened there seems to be some kinks in the kitchen. Our server was really good. It took a long time for our order to be served. We ordered vegetarian appetizers and several dishes. The food is good and flavorful.
The staff although nice but messed up our order. The owner apologized and more than made up for it and sent complimentary deserts to our table.
