Love coming here if i'm in the mood to shop at the mall, w/ so much around here! But if you're in a rush, stay away, the cashier lineups are incredibly long, worse than the other stores,...one wonders who the heck ever designed this...
But for the action and entertainment, it's fun--there's always sales and something going on, unlike Safeway, unless you're waiting for seafood, meats or the deli, it's usually in and out. Superstore, you can just hang out a little bit longer looking for something...
Superstore does have more and more of a home furnishings, and nick nacks too.
A little tip is sometimes if you've got just an item or two, and if you are nice and lucky, you can go to the photo or cosmetic section and they'll ring it in ;) -

I have a love/hate relationship with this particular Superstore.
On the one hand it's convenient, I can find almost everything I need under one roof, prices are reasonable, and the hours are kind to people with 9-5 jobs like myself. On the other hand, coming here gives me ulcers.
Now I'm no supermarket pansy - I'm a Crystal Mall veteran, so really any "white" supermarket should be a cake walk for me. Yet when faced with the prospect of a trip to the Metrotown Superstore I break out into a cold sweat.
One other thing it has going for it, is the fact that it's under the same roof as T&T. So while it's no fun, it is very convenient - and being able to load up on both my Asian & Western staples with one trip will keep me coming back.Listed in: Yelp 30 Day Challenge 2011

This Superstore location gives me anxiety and grief. I always need to ask myself, do I really need to be here or should I just drive to another location? It's convenient to buy groceries here after you have done shopping at Metrotown. But I recommend to avoid this location at all cost. I have no grievance against Superstore itself just this freaking location. Their prices are decent on most items and their Presidents' Choice store brand can stand up to some of the Brand names but this location is like a freakin zoo.
The produce section is plain nasty! You can see dirt and fallen fruits on the ground but there's no one there to clean it up. You are lucky if they even put a plastic cone there to warn shoppers of the slippery hazard. Don't get me going on the quality of the produce, it's disgusting! The vegetables are not fresh at all. The carrots that I wanted to buy on my last visit looked limpy, like it needed a dose of Viagra! I I rather go to Safeway or Price Smart for produce.
Then your blood pressure really goes up when you approach the check stands. Virtually every check stand is full at all times even the self check outs. This location seems to attract the type of customers that are not familiar with the simple task of scanning your items and swiping your credit/debit cards. Its a mystery why some people still can't figure how to use the self check out or why they insist on holding the line while arguing about the price of an item with a customer rep who doesn't even give a shit. The check stands with the cashiers are even worse with every line occupied by at least one person buying their monthly groceries. I got so frustrated a few times that I just left my basket and walked away. Please give me a Xanax!
Avoid this location at all cost unless you are willing to age your life away at the check stands. -

Pros: convenient location, inexpensive
Cons:
1) I came in to buy Simply Orange Juice and I searched the whole shelf and they were ALL expired by at least a month! Quality control much?
2) It isn't very clean and needs to be updated.
3) I can almost never find someone to help me find a product or ask a question.
4) Laws in Canada state that you cannot promote or advertise tobacco products and they had a couple of large advertisements at Customer Service where the tobacco products are located. I asked to speak to management about this and he brushed me off saying he was allowed to do it and basically that I was wrong ( he didn't even say he would check on it, etc.)
10 minutes later as I walked by, the signs were gone. -

I hate crowds and always try to not go grocery shopping during their peak hours, - from 5:30PM-7:30PM. Ugh.. torture for me.
However, if I do have to go to Superstore and it is during the non peak hours, I like the fact that I can park in the 15min zone. I know what I want, go in, grab it and out the door! The prices are usually a lot less than other grocery store chains and I like the convenience. Service may not be the best, but I'm only for such a short period of time, so I don't care. -

This in particular is the worst superstore I've ever been to.
I love superstore. I love the fact that I can buy a week or more of groceries for my fiance and it costs me less than 100$. With the exception of a few items (eg cream cheese or mayo), the no-name stuff is just as good as most of the name brand products for a couple of dollars cheaper.
This location in particular however has me raging like a bull facing a red flag every time I go to it. Let me break it down for you:
I walk into the store and grab a basket, so far so good. Then however, I notice the HUGE amounts of people crammed into a store that looks like it's about to burst at the seams and my nostrils start to flair a little in anticipation. After attempting to walk through the place and getting cut off by people wielding their shopping carts in an unruly manner I start to rear back and snort a little. Then when I'm not able to find one or two of the things I'm looking for in this absolute labyrinth of a store and finding nobody to help me my brow furrows and my horns are lowered. I finally manage to find everything I need and get to the biggest line I've ever seen at any grocery store and realized that it's being held up because the person working barely speaks english it takes every bit of my remaining patience to not just start grabbing people and throwing them out of my way like I'm participating in the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona.
In short, this place is a zoo and if given the opportunity to shop at any other superstore I highly recommend it. My suggestion if you are someone who takes public transit like me would be to use the one by rupert skytrain station as it will only take you a few extra minutes to get there, but you'll save thousands on the inevitable murder charges. -

So, I complained, and Superstore changed one aspect of their policy with their produce. Superstore has a discount section for their spoiled, rotten, and moldy produce, and they're all at a discount of 50% off. Is it a good thing? Well, it's nice to know they're separating their really bad stuff from their not so bad stuff. It should take effect for all stores owned by Galen Weston, except for Holt Renfrew. Still, I wouldn't buy any produce from Superstore, period.
Daniel M., I think should you read all other Superstore reviews because everyone complains about their poor quality produce. I've never been to a Supermarket that sells produce as poor quality as Superstore.

Those who want to buy and consume produce at Superstore better have some sort of extended healthcare plan or health insurance. Superstore still sells the lowest quality produce in the business.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

The prices are always good at any Superstore but this one is just too busy. I would honestly pay money to not have to deal with the twelve thousand people in this store at any given moment. If you need to visit a Superstore for some reason do yourself a favor and take an extra few minutes to drive to another location.
Oh yeah - just a tip. Never use the self checkout at this location. I don't know what it is but 95% of the people standing in front of a self checkout here look confused beyond all belief. And they don't mind spending your precious half of an hour trying to figure out the mystery that is before them. -

I went in at 5pm and they have fresh baked bread... for $1... and it was still warm. Love, love, love soft gooshy bread. I wrapped it in plastic wrap and it was still soft the next day.
We also bought other staples like milk and cream, and some cake called "Celebration Cake." Most times, this place is madness. I try to avoid this place like the plague on weekends, but on weekdays, it's okay to run in and pick up something quick. -

So I know this is just a grocery store and we have similar stores in the States, but I am just attracted to grocery stores. What can I say.
This one is really busy all the time and hard to get around. You also have to watch the prices on the bulk foods when they ring up.
But my review is mainly because of the potato chips. I don't know if Canadians are very food of their potato chips, but I am a whore for a chip and the range of flavors here is astonishing and the store brand is cheap! Like a dollar a bag. Now, that was even better when currency exchange was not at par, but still a good deal. So I stock up on my Piri-Piri chips to get me through a couple months (ok weeks). Just have a good excuse ready for the border when they ask why you have 10 bags of potato chips in your trunk. :)
Oh, and I agree with Robot B.'s assessment on the self check-out. 18 months later and it is still the same. -

Anyone who plans to go to the Metrotown Superstore, be prepared for all out war. A combination of the busiest mall in the GVR, and also the busiest supermarket is going to bring one thing = crowds. If you are one who hates crowds and craziness, be warned, dodge this place like the plague. If you are the above, you probably will not come to Metrotown anyways.
If you have been to any of the Real Canadian Superstore's, you know they practically try to cover everything from food, prescription drugs, clothes, electronics, etc., there is just too many categories to name. By knowing this, also know in price they are very competitive. When they first opened, these stores looked great inside, the product was setup nicely, there was an abundance of selection, then it was just overrun with people, and things started getting messy. Well, seems like Loblaws (parent company) is taking notice, as coming in here after so long, it is looking more orderly and better. Still not as good as their other stores, but they do not have to deal with the same amount of traffic that this places goes through in a day. -
Review from Reena M.
This location is pretty okay. I mean, it's well known you don't go to Superstore for fresh produce unless you have to or unless they have a sale on strawberries, mangoes, or mini mandarin oranges (or is it?). Or if you're just getting basics like onions and potatoes. So with standards lowered there, you're good to go.
The bakery products are okay. Their dairy section is alright. Sometimes it seems like their gallons of milk are leaking.
I really like their bulk foods section, especially for baking ingredients since I do a lot of that.
Specifically, what I like about this location, other than its cheap goods, is the self checkout section. I don't know why, but there is something about checking myself out of the grocery that gives me some satisfaction. Maybe I secretly always wanted to be a cashier? Naw, it's good for days when I want to minimize my people face-to-face interaction. -

Anybody who buys food without looking at it to check its freshness first is an idiot. Plain and simple.
Don't use Yelp as a way to attack businesses because YOU did something stupid. -

There is nothing the manager can do about the long line ups, the inconsiderate customers, or the fact that most people seem completely unable to use the self check out machines, and those are what make shopping at this particular location at times unbearable, as you stand in line carrying a basket of grocerys in arm for an hour as 3 or 4 customers check out 30 items in the express lane, complain that their coupons work for all kinds of produce, or demand to see the manager about the long line ups. hahaha
This location is in Metrotown Mall and open later, which makes it very transit accessible and more of a one stop shop location than others. The grocerys are laid out pretty typically of most stores, with all the good stuff (bakery, produce, meat, dairy) on the outside and all the packaged stuff on the inside. They also did us all a favor by moving everything inedible to another half of the store entirely. Shopping here is easy, until you want to pay...
A tip though, a lot of their bulk food items are actually more expensive than their packaged equivalents (depending on how much you need). Take a look around for the presidents choice packaged item and you might find its unit price way cheaper. -

In general, I am a fan of the Real Canadian Superstore mainly because of the prices and selection of items. What I am not a fan of is the madness that ensues at this particular Superstore location all of the time! Because it is located in the behemoth that is Metrotown Mall, there is rarely a time when it isn't overrun with people coming and going.
Moving on (for now) from the irritation of grocery shopping for a second, Superstore has a fantastic selection of cosmetics and the like and the prices truly cannot be beat! It is definitely worth the trek to stock up on your essential items here, that is assuming of course that when you arrive there the stock has been filled. This is also another risk you take while shopping at Superstore, everyone is so rabid about buying up items, that the stock is never replenished fast enough! This is not always the case though so just hope you haven't gotten there on a day when it has been cleaned out.
Another innovative addition to Superstore is the Joe Fresh brand of clothing and accessories for men, women and children. The prices are phenomenal! Joe Mimran is the genius behind Club Monaco and Alfred Sung and he has brought his 'fresh', unique and uber-affordable styles to the masses via Superstore. A very welcome addition!
Another plus: Superstore makes a very concerted effort to stock Canadian produce and their President's Choice line of food is surprisingly good!
You can decide whether the recent decision to open Superstore during the holidays (December 8-23) for 24 hours is a good one or not. I have a strange desire to hit up Superstore at 3am to see if its any less busy than during the day...doubtful! -

I love Superstore and it is the main place i do my grocery shopping. I mean you cannot beat their prices and selection. The meats are awesome and so is the choices. They have everything. I easily spend 2 or 3 hours on a Sat morning grocery shopping and thoroughly enjoy it. Yes, it is supercrowded. That part I hate, but they are there for the same reason as me. My 100 or 150$ goes a million times farther there and that can't be beat! I am a fan.

Great selection of items. They do seem to have a problem keeping items in stock. The check out lines are always long. The prices seem reasonable and the location is large. i recommend if you're looking to save money.
