When I first walked into Rainbow Bridal to shop for a wedding dress two years ago, I wasn't especially impressed.  There were old-fashioned less-than-attractive bridesmaid dresses in the front and little old ladies having a tea and jelly donut picnic at a table near the back of the store.  (I never did find out who they were or what they were doing there, though they were there a few times when I came by the store, just having their potentially dress-ruining snacks and observing the goings-on.  Strange.)  It's definitely not the sort of place to shop if you're the type of bride-to-be who wants to feel bathed in luxury throughout your dress-shopping experience.  The store is older and it shows, from the threadbare carpet to the fact that the whole place could do with a bit of a face lift.

    However...

They have what matters most - a great selection of beautiful wedding dresses, including some of the same designers and styles you'd find at pricier stores in the Toronto area.

    And...

The store owner took the time to find out what I was looking for and he picked out a lovely Maggie Sottero dress for me to try that I never would have picked out for myself.  He wasn't pushy at all about this, and he didn't just pick out some expensive dress to try to up-sell me  - he really listened to me, and he knew their merchandise well enough to find something that he thought would be a good match.  Turns out I loved, loved, loved the dress when I saw how it looked on - I didn't know it would look like that on me when I saw it on the hanger, but it was so flattering and elegant!  After my shopping trip to Rainbow, I ended up going to a few places in Toronto to shop, just to make sure, but I came back to Rainbow Bridal to buy my dress.  Not only did they help me find my wedding dress, but they also had a pretty good price on it.

What's more, they did an EXCELLENT job with the alterations!  (The alterations were rather pricey, but that seems to be the norm for wedding dress alterations.)  I would highly, highly recommend their in-house seamstress Sylvia for your alterations if you get a dress here.  My dress (the Philippa) had a complex design on the overlay, and I was very particular about the length, and these factors together made the hemming of the dress rather exacting.  I wanted the front of the dress hemmed to just barely skim the floor - my husband and I were doing some ballroom dancing at the reception, so it had to be just the right length so neither of us would step on it.  Sylvia, when she was hemming the dress, actually removed some of the delicate individual decorations from the overlay, moved some of the decorations and reshaped others so that they looked just right when the dress was shortened.  The bustle also looked amazing and was just perfect for dancing - I have some wedding photos of the skirt sweeping from side to side as we danced, and the dress (and my backside) looks great in all of them!  Sylvia also did an excellent job of taking in the bodice of the dress, which had to be reduced by more than a full size since my shirt size is a full size smaller than my skirt size, and we'd ordered the dress to fit my larger half.

In short, they got everything important right - they have a great selection at good prices, helped me find a dress that was perfect for me, and altered it to fit me just perfectly.  The only downside is the atmosphere of the store - it could be a bit cleaner and the staff, though nice enough, could sometimes be more professional.  This ultimately didn't really matter to me, but it's a bit off-putting at first, and it's the reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5.

This place has a large selection and the staff are very friendly.  They also let you dig through with your grubby hands and try on whatever you like. I also found a dress I was considering for 150$ cheaper than a store in Toronto had it listed so I think its worth checking out.  She would have also given me 20% of buy it off the rack.   I didn't buy from here as i am looking for more of a non-traditional style but I would recommend if you are in the area.
