These guys are the real deal! Great craft beer and you do not need to be a hipster to enjoy.

Really?  No one has reviewed R & B?

These guys TOTALLY ROCK!  They make a number of delicious beers, with my summertime favorite being their Sun God wheat.  And, while making good beer is enough to make them rock stars, they don't just make good beer.  They are also incredibly active in the local food and art scenes, particularly at fundraising and charity events.  If you're at a big enough fund-raiser, it's almost guaranteed that the R & B guys will be there, being low-key and cool, and making the world a better place.

    With beer.

Over the years, R & B has really impressed me. First encountered them at a convention years ago - eager and knowledgeable representatives generously pouring out tasty samplers and engaging in beer geek talk.  Their range of brews are strong (their Red Devil Pale Ale probably being their most popular brew) and one of my favourite local brewers - their entire range is solid and accessible - so it was a no-brainer to come here to pick up a keg for a gathering.

I've dealt with a few small, local microbreweries in my storied keg career: unofficial East Van beer bong champion [see http://www.youtube.com... and ranked pound-for-pound best from in '05 - '08.  While it feels good to support the underdog, some places really need to get their shit together.  However, the R&B representative, Leanna, was prompt, courteous and professional.  Booking my keg was painless and simple - all the equipment I requested was set aside and was ready for me on pickup.  And they went through a lot of trouble to tap a keg for me so I could sample their range to ensure I made the right decision.  All my calls were returned quickly.  This may not seem like much - but most places don't seem to really want to bother with small sales and lack professionalism.  To the guy at my last brewery: "Yes - I'm aware you live by me.  And yes, I'm aware you're down to party.  And yes, I'm aware you looking to meet some women.  But no - I'm not going to invite you to my kegger.  You're creepy, dude."

They offer 19L, 50L and 40L cask 'party kits' - and you can choose between a hand pump & keg bucket (if you want to relive your frat days) and CO2 driven draft dispenser - no extra charge, just a difference in deposit.

I went with the Bohemian Lager - clean and easy-drinking for mass appeal, but still quite a bit of flavour for an American-style lager.  Not my poison of choice - but it was definitely the right pick for a shindig full of non-beer-drinkers.

Only one nitpick - R & B self describes itself as being 'edgy, young, independent... definitely East Van.'  Yes, they are very close to East Van - but they are just west of Quebec St... literally 1/4 block west of Quebec.  Sorry guys - Quebec is the dividing line for me - it's as serious as the 38th parallel in Korea to me.  But I'll overlook this offence since they are such a kickass brewery with an awesome staff.  I PROCLAIM THIS AREA OF E 4TH ANNEXED FOR THE GREATER GLORY OF EAST VAN.
