Service: super responsive and friendly staff. Fast, efficient and really accommodating. They were quick to help us change rooms when we decided we wanted a suite instead of a studio and were accommodating with extras such as a crib.

Rooms: very clean and well maintained. The bathrooms were extremely clean and have been tastefully updated. I dislike carpet but all hotel rooms seem to have carpet.. I guess I can't avoid it. Our room had a mini fridge which was really nice to keep drinks cold and store a few snacks and left overs.

Wonderful location that is central to everything: downtown, Cook St village, James Bay - you can walk everywhere.

    Other:
    -Free WiFi!
-The onsite parking was an extra charge but it was only $4.50/day.
-elevators move quickly so there isn't a lot of waiting.
-nice smaller heated pool and hot tub.
    -nice, bright and welcoming lobby.
-beds are on the harder side which I like... Sofa bed is in the softer side.
-nice shower with a strong water flow but beware of the sink facet: water gets really, really HOT almost immediately!

I was very disappointed with the service at Queen Victoria. We were greeted with a very hostile attitude because we're young. We were planning on having a casual evening and then we are greeted with malicious threats. That type of behavior is not justifiable. We didn't stay at Queen Victoria to be scolded by an old man with a terrible attitude.

If you plan on staying in Victoria do not stay at Queen Victoria, especially if you're under the age of 40. They have a reputation for terrible service. This isn't the first instance I've heard about bad service at Queen Victoria. There are nicer hotels in the downtown area. Don't ruin your trip to Victoria by staying at Queen Victoria.

Management at Queen Victoria: If you want to clean up your reputation, talk to or replace your staff. The attitude of your concierge is inexcusable.

Location: Extremely central. A block from the Royal BC Museum and Beacon Hill Park.

Room: Very large and comfortable. Free wi-fi.

Service: Excellent. Can't say there's anything we needed that we didn't get.

Rates: I was surprised how good the rates were for a suite. Also a plus that there are kitchens, since restaurants in Canada are very expensive. You have to pay a little extra for the kitchen access but it's probably worth it.

Pool: Very nice, although it's five feet at the foot of the stairs, so if you have small kids it's not the best. The hot tub is very nice.

I wish Yelp had sub-categories so I could break this review down because there were parts of this hotel that were 5 star and parts that were 1 star...and so overall I gave it 3 stars.

    Pros:

Good location - Right in downtown Victoria and within walking distance to everything

Nice staff - The front desk people were really nice and helpful and the concierge was great. They also allowed us to check in really early (about 11am) which was really nice after traveling.

Pool area - The pool area is nice and the sauna is a great touch

Clean - The room was clean and spacious

    Cons:

SO NOISY!!!! - I read some other reviews about not getting a room near the elevator so we avoided that, but ended up right next to the maintenance/cleaning supply closet and had to hear the crew opening and closing the doors starting at 8am. The walls are paper thin and we could hear everything.

Room smells - It says it's a 100% non-smoking hotel, but the room definitely had an odor of stale cigarettes. Maybe it used to allow smoking and now the carpet and walls retain the smell? Either way, it was stuffy and didn't smell fresh.

Bad beds - The mattresses were just cheap box spring mattresses with hardly any cushion or support. I know it's not a 5 star hotel, but I thought the beds would be a little better.

So...overall it was decent and did the job for a 2 night stay, but I don't think I'd stay there again because the noisy halls were too much of a deal breaker. I guess if you're a heavy sleeper this hotel wouldn't be so bad.

My first visit to Victoria, BC with my parents and boyfriend.

On the outside it looked small, but when we were checking in, the lobby was pretty nice. The rooms were nice with a lot of room. There was free wi-fi. Not many hotels have free wi-fi and free parking in BC. It also has a heated pool, hot tub, and a sauna. Theres also a gym.

Great location in downtown. So close to the museum. Front desk/concierge were very helpful on telling us where to go to eat.

Overall great experience and great service.

This is a pretty nice hotel in Victoria. The location is great - It is within walking distance of everything you'd like to do in this city but it's off the main drag so it's not nearly so noisy or busy. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from where the ferries come in so you don't have to haul your luggage too far if you're walking.

This hotel is pretty nice for the price. The rooms are nice and clean. It's your standard quality hotel room but with a few modern finishes. The hotel itself has many amenities - pool, fitness center, etc. The staff are incredibly friendly! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I was coming back to Victoria.

My family and I stayed here, arriving during a snow storm.  They allowed us to check into our room early, and offered good advice about not driving and where to eat within walking distance.  The hotel lobby was very nice with a warm fire.  The front desk staff were friendly and informative.  The location was great for walking to local attractions, shopping and restaurants.  Our room was nicely appointed and clean.  My big complaint is the bed.  The bed was so hard, that I woke with a back ache.  It's too bad, because other than that, it was a great value, but I won't be coming back.

Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a 5 star hotel, but I had a 5 star experience. my girlfriend and i found this hotel on a deal for $100 and couldn't pass it up. I am glad we didn't. front desk is great! Had no idea where to eat and he knew all the places within walking distance. We were across the street from the museum, and 2 blocks from the water. We made full use of the facilities, (swimming pool, hot tub, sauna.) The room was spacious, two queen's. Samuel's restaurant closes at 8:30 but when we ordered dessert at 9:15 they had no problem making it for us take out which was what we wanted to bring back to the room. Parking was included, which is great because i hate all the places that have a parking lot but still nickel and dime you for no reason. The hotel is kept warm so it was very cozy. No complaints of being too cold or too hot. Unfortunately there was no view but oh well, we were walking everywhere anyway. The service brought up extra towels within 5 minutes and they have FREE WIFI. The hotel i was in the night before had wifi but they charged for it.
