WALL STREET, NY
Can honestly say I think this is the best steakhouse in NYC. The decor is outstanding, the service is impeccable, and the food is delicious!
My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's day. Don't feel like you need to get an appetizer because if you order the steak 2 sides are enough.
The Sautéed Spinach and the Corn Crème Brûlée are to die for. The steak is also cooked to perfection.
You will not be sorry you went here :) -

One of the first things you will notice is how great this place looks. Probably the coolest looking restaurant I have been in. For anyone has been to Sleep No More, it kind of has that vibe.
----
Went for an early dinner on a Thursday night with a party of four. Two of us were running late, and surprisingly the hostess sat us at our table and allowed us to wait there instead of having to stand by the bar. Not that this made a huge difference (we were still waiting) but it was a nice touch since it is becoming more and more common for restaurants to make you wait for your entire party before you can sit.
While many reviewers below have panned the staff, I thought everyone was very helpful and attentive. It was a bit noisy, making it difficult to hear our server at times (odd because the place wasn't packed, must just be bad acoustics), but she was very helpful in explaining the menu to us.
For appetizers we got the Tomato and Onion salad, which was a bit odd but pretty good (huge slices of tomato served with some kind of sauce w/ bacon-ish meat bits in it, with a few gigantic onion rings on the side) and the bone marrow (also served with the bacon chunk sauce). The bone marrow was bone marrow, so it was bone marrow (i.e. yummy). Probably doesn't need the sauce though.
The steaks are where Quality is losing the stars for me. I was first to place my order, and since this is a high end steak place, I thought to ask the server if they generally under-cook their meat. She confirmed that ordering medium would be much closer to the traditional medium-rare, etc. I was ordering the Aged Bone-In Ribeye and asked how they would normally serve it (medium rare) and ordered that. What I got was a touch above medium. The meat was still fine, but for the price I really expected the meat to be served as ordered for all four of us.
Another of our party, who prefers meat to be more on the well done side, ordered the fillet medium-well (yea, a sin, but lets not dwell on that). I figured they would serve it closer to medium, but instead he was given a fillet that had been cut in half (the long ways, so it was very thin) and really overcooked. Pretty sure that was some chef rage there, but still a place this high-end should be accommodating. The other two in the party also ordered the fillet, Medium, and thought it was perfect.
Lastly, the sides we ordered were kind of so-so. The creamed spinach was great, but the Quality Potato (their take on a baked potato) was pretty dry and the only thing at the table we didn't finish (well, that and the destroyed fillet). I guess this is their take on the baked potato, but is is served kind of mashed and with a layer of cheese and a few house-made chips stuck in it. The flavor was OK (tasted like they mixed sour cream in somewhere), but felt like it had been sitting a little too long before it was served.
Overall, for an NYC steak house charging 5-star prices, I would definitely look to try other places first and getting a taste for great steak at more established restaurants.
PS: we didn't order wine, but wine lovers should know that the wine menu is ridiculously long here, so if that is your thing you should be able to find something to your liking. -

New York, NY
Came here the Saturday before Valentine's Day and I was so glad they didn't do a special menu because I feel like it usually detracts from the quality (no pun intended) of the food. We started off with the complementary bread, which was basically soft delicious rolls baked in a skillet, topped with fried onion pieces and crystals of sea salt. What's not to love?
For the appetizers we shared the scallops and the bone marrow. Both were decent portions especially when you factor in the ridiculous amount of bread you'll be guaranteed to eat before the appetizers come out. I had the filet mignon and my bf had the bone-in ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly medium rare and had so much flavor. Melt in your mouth good. For the sides we shared the Quality potatoes which are basically loaded potatoes with cheese, sour cream, and scallions (and probably bacon) and grilled asparagus. For dessert we shared some ridiculous banana dessert (cookies, ice cream, banana).
The space is huge and it has enough of a steak house feel without being too old-school or rough around the edges. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Can't wait to go back. -

Meh. Every time I come back to Quality Meats, it slips a little further in my estimation.
The parker-house rolls are still incredible, but the steak pricing is eye-popping. Granted, I'm a little biased against steakhouses - your quality lies mostly with your purveyors, so when you make a mistake in your kitchens, it's a head-scratcher.
Last time I ate at QM, I had the chicken, as I wasn't hungry enough for a huge steak. The chicken was quite nice, for sure. But between the atmosphere, pricing, and steaks, QM comes across to me as very pre-2008. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for cheap, but I am looking for food worth my money, and QM isn't wowing me.
Dying to get to Prime Meats to compare, but no one wants to schlep to Brooklyn ... :-P -
Review from Emily R.
Quality Meats is awesome for a few reasons - but first and foremost, because of the style of the decor. I'd say the interior is second to only ABC Kitchen - beautiful wooden tables, 3 stories of dining rooms, hidden romantic nooks, beautiful stemware, unexpected floral touches, and an interesting "unfinished basement'' type ceiling that just works. At many steakhouses I've visited, they're so overwhelmingly masculine it's hard to find touches of "pretty" - but QM really nails the romantic atmosphere.
We tried the crab and avocado appetizer - crab meat with lemon beneath and avocado shell, and atop a basil oil flavored thin tomato slice. Augh, so refreshing and delicious. The sea bass is served seared, in 2 filets, with crispy skin still attached. A little salty, but I love salt - and accompanied by radishes, an avocado cream, and garlicky salsa verde. yum. The filet was delicious, as expected. We also shared a side of gnocchi - topped with breadcrumbs, cheesy - hard to screw that one up, awesome.
Definitely a great recommendation to bring family for a special occasion - and just 1 block south of Central Park and the Plaza Hotel. Perfect for a post-dinner walk! Loved it. -

Been here 3 times now and plan on many future visits. Hands down, the best restaurant i've even been to! Steak Tartare, The Filet, The trio of Filets, the Sticky pudding fig ice cream dessert. It's just all amazing. Decor and service.

The atmosphere is perfect! the decor and feel is amazing and one of my favorites around. from the lighting to the tables to the multilevel dining room screams class. the bathrooms were clean and well stocked with linen towels. I came here for lunch with my cousin and her husband. We began with the scallops which were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. the steak was cooked to medium rare and i was happy with how it arrived. i would definitely recommend this place but be sure to make reservations for dinner!
oh and i almost forgot, their bread is to die for! i could easily eat the entire thing -

If you want to have a nice steak dinner in the city, you can't really go wrong with Quality Meats.
The decor inside is nice. Sleek, but not stuffy, and a far cry from grungy steak houses.
The steaks are killer. I shared the rib eye, and it had a nice buttery flavor to go its simple seasoning and butter sauce.
Speaking of butter, if there's on knock on QM, it's that there sides are really heavy. Corn Creme Brulee? Creamed corn.
Parmesan Waffle Fries? Delicious, but fatty.
Yorkshire spinach? Tasty but creamy.
Again, these are all good, but I feel like I can only get the asparagus without feeling my arteries choke up.
Great dining experience though. -

This was my 4th time having dinner at Quality Meats and it still remains my favorite steak place in the city. It's somewhat of a hidden gem located in an odd place among all of the shopping and tourists. The inside however could not be farther from touristy. Beautiful and rustic with a sophisticated staff and crowd to match.
The steaks are cooked perfectly, and the side dishes are decadent. The creamed spinach and the parmigiana fries are my favorites! Even though you come here for the steak, the steak sauce is to die for. I NEVER put anything on my steak. This sauce is so amazing and fresh. The waitstaff makes it table-side with fresh rosemary. I've actually had them make me extra before to take home with me!
The only thing I didn't love on this visit, was that the service was too quick! I'll remember next time to order the appetizers and drinks first, wait, then place the dinner order. The place is just too amazing (and expensive) to rush through!
Save room for dessert, I think there are more desserts than there are entree options! -

**3.5 stars if I could**
I came here with restaurant week with my friends this fall and it was pretty good!
I got the steak tartar for the appetizer and it was amazing. I love all tartar basically, and it was so good! They give us a mini tray of sauces and spices and it added more flavor, but it was a bittt too salty. Won't be putting in all the salt next time.
For the entree came the steak. It was good, but it was cooked a bit too much and hard to chew. Meh. It was a bit too salty for me too.
Dessert was a mint chocolate chip ice cream. This was really good. I love all mint chocolate chip ice cream. Also, in the center was some sort of cookie?! I forget. I couldn't even really tell. Also at this point I was too full to even finish it. -

So, I went back to QM again; and again, a pretty solid experience. My bone in filet (is this number 4?) came out perfectly medium rare. As soon as I took that first bite, I remember why I keep coming back. I cannot say enough about this piece of meat.
My sister-in-law, however, ordered her Filet medium, and it came out medium-rare. Now she had two chances to tell them that she wasn't happy with the dish. Once when the waiter came by a few minutes after we got our dishes, and a second time when someone in a suit (not a manager) came by and checked in on us. Instead, she decided to tell them as they were clearing our plates that she wasn't happy. I was totally expecting QM to say that they asked twice how the meat was, and she didn't speak up. But they were very gracious and offered to bring her something else, and when she declined, the manager came over and said there would be no charge for that steak. Handled very well if you ask me.
So again, I'm left struggling to make a decision - should I give a pass to a steakhouse that has, for the last two occasions, served a dish incorrectly cooked? Especially at this price-point? How about a comprise - I'll knock off half a star for now, but still round up to 4. QM - your fate of a 3 or 4 star rating will be determined at my next visit. You've been warned.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Coming from Chicago- I was here on my 21st birthday. I found out after I had left the restaurant that my uncle had called and ordered me a bottle of champagne that was never brought to my table. The manager took his credit card number and everything and was very rude about the whole transaction. So my experience here was very tainted after i found out about this. I would not return.

Outstanding service!!! At the high prices the food was very good but not great. Frankly, I expected the filet mignon (4 of us had it) to be better. The outside was too salty and the taste was good, not great. The side dishes were fairly ordinary as well. The bread to begin the meal is award-winning! Ice cream dessert was great, fruit was not. All in all very good but I have had better at those prices.

We took advantage of Restaurant Week and opted for the 3 course lunch at $24.07.
To start, we had the scallops and the Caesar salad (huge!), in addition to the complementary rosemary rolls (served fresh out of the oven, yum!).
For my main, I chose the meatballs and M had the flatiron steak ($10 supplement). The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious EXCEPT it was totally oversalted. If it had been my dish, I would have sent it back. The meatballs were tender and tasty, but also on the salty side (but edibly so). Note: The entrees do not come with sides, so we ordered corn creme brulee, which turned out to be a nice complement to the meat.
Dessert was our choice of gelato, sherbet, or sorbet. We went with orange creamsicle sherbet and tropical fruit sorbet. Orange creamsicle was definitely better. Both had fruit on the bottom, a nice surprise.
Pricey for lunch but top notch food and service.Listed in: NYC

We got there early to grab a drink at the bar. I was unimpressed with the draft selection and choose a bottle. Within a few minutes I learned that the menu hadn't been updated and in fact one my favorite IPA had been on tap the whole time.
After we chose the wine the waiter came back with a bottle of the wrong vintage. This happened twice with two different wines.
Our apps were great, the service was nice but when the steaks came out two out of the four dishes were over cooked. It's was very eatable and high quality meat but still slightly disappointing that I wasn't eating very expensive piece of meat cook to my desired temperature.
Overall I was a little disappointed. You're a high end steakhouse, over cooked meat is just unacceptable and very amateur. Also if your making this many changes to a drink menu someone needs to make the consumer aware.
I would most likely give them another try as I loved the decor and staff was very pleasant. -

Gotta love Restaurant Week in NYC especially when a place as awesome as Quality Meats is participating. For $24.07 you get a 3 course prix-fixe of your choice, and I'm not talking dime sized cuts of fancy food, I'm talking the good stuff like prime cuts of beef, steak, and lobster. Yeah it was that kind of meal.
Upon arrival they they check in your coat, which is awesome, then guide you through the restaurant to your table. Once seated you are immediately greeted by your server and given ice cold water, which is then followed up by 4 super flavorful, freshly baked, and oh so delicious rosemary butter rolls. Now while I'm not usually impressed by bread baskets (unless of course I'm at STK, Providence, or Scarpetta, which all have great bread baskets), these suckers were dope, and almost on par with some of the best in the business.
We ended up getting the scallops and Caesar to start, the meatballs and flatiron steak ($10 supplement but worth every penny) for our entrees, and the orange creamsicle and tropical fruit sorbets for dessert. All of which were AMAZING!
I don't even know where to begin because EVERYTHING was amazing. Service was great, timing was perfect, and the food was utterly divine. Definitely no complaints from me except maybe that they were a tad heavy handed with the salt.
I would also recommend taking a look at the supplemental dishes and upgrade, because my decision to upgrade to the flatiron steak was a move of greatness. And for those of you who have never had a flatiron steak, its as tender as a filet, so don't sleep on it.
The meatballs were also a great choice, and while I was skeptical at first I can definitely say that they killed this dish, and once it was brought out to us we too began to kill this dish.
Verdict: Quality Meats - Where Amazing Happens! (stole that one from the NBA)
APPROVED!!!Listed in: Best of NYC

I had heard form several people, before visiting Manhattan, that this place needed to be on my place of restaurants to hit. I'm glad I listened to them. They get plenty of tables into a relatively small space (its multileveled and each floor isn't that big). Though you do have some tight quarters, and the restaurant gets a bit loud, QM does a good job of ensuring each table has their own space and personal bubble. Without even lifting a finger we were each given a small sample of gourmet pear topped with cheese, which was shortly thereafter followed by a pan of fresh baked bread that could only get softer and tastier if it was raw dough. The service was deliberate in its pace and professional (perfect for the setting)
The food did not disappoint as well. One of their specials that night was the bone-in filet. I of course ordered it medium rare (as all steaks should be prepared) and the finished product did not disappoint. On a graph of tenderness vs taste, the steak errs to the side of tender, which isn't to say it lacked taste at all. It was plenty flavorful, but just that tender. In case you need it as well, the steak sauce provided is a great addition. For sides we got waffle fries (above average, though I felt out of place eating them at a nice restaurant), asparagus (good but nothing special, served with scattered cashews) and the creamed gnocchi (which was awesome and now comes highly recommended [from me]). I can't comment on the desserts as we got nice and stuffed at dinner, but the menu was tempting, complete with a variety of ice cream sandwiches and some other creative dishes.
I don't know who thought it was a good idea to label this place as a "seafood" establishment (a couple plates on the menu but not their specialty) but that should probably be adjusted to "steakhouse". Highly recommended -

One of the best meals of my life!! I didn't know filet mignon could even taste like that! I've been to several steakhouses in midtown and this one really doesn't feel like it belongs in the area. The decor is trendy and contemporary, more Nolita style.
We opted for a bunch of small and side dishes and shared one filet. The meatballs were heavenly and the gnocchi was also definitely a highlight of the meal. The waiter brought us a trio of homemade sauces for our filet, even though they were great, the filet was so juicy and full of flavor we really didn't need any steak sauce.

OMG! from the food to the service this place was divine. This review is a bit late but we came for a work dinner awhile back. I loved the atmosphere, it was dark, with a little edgy sophistication.
Our table started off with wine and though I'm not a huge red drinker, I felt it fitting to have since we were at a steak place. I'll admit I'm def. no connoisseur of red wine. So I def. loved how helpful our waiter was in helping me pick as well as letting me sample a few before I made my final selection.
Foodwise, our table started off with some oysters and the tuna tartar which were both delicious. For the main, I ordered the 12 oz filet mignon and our table shared sides of the corn creme brulee, creamed spinach, asparagus, and potatoes. My filet was melt in your mouth perfect on the inside, though a bit charred on the outside. The sides really made the meal for me. My favorites were the corn creme brulee (BEST CORN DISH EVER) and the creamed spinach. The corn creme brulee was creamy, a tiny bit sweet, and a tint of crisp all in one.
I was completely stuffed by the end of the mains/side but yet my party persisted on to eat dessert. I personally went for the tropical fruit sorbet hoping for something a bit lighter. It was really refreshing but my party's were ridiculously drool inducing (unfortunately i do not remember the name).
Though this meal would def. be a hefty dent to my wallet, I would definitely return for a special occasion or to show outsiders fine NY steak. -

Atmosphere and staff was great. Quality of steak (porterhouse for two) was good; however lacked flavor and that juice that I am used to at some of the other steakhouses that I frequent in the city and Brooklyn.

All the stars go to Service - impeccable. The food is average. The price is too high. I would recommend fried oysters and desert. The beef tartar was OK - certainly not THE BEST in the city as is advertised in some reviews. The fillet Mignon was average - not butter soft as you would expect from a place of this caliber. The Sea Bass was OK - not memorable. In fact, besides the great service - nothing about this place was memorable.

RESTAURANT WEEK 2012
This was my first time dining here. When we walked into the restaurant we were led up stairs to dine. We asked for the RW menu and after a few min. the waiter came to take our order. I asked if the steak tartare would be big, his response "nothing for restaurant week is big" in a stuck up harsh butcher tone. We should have left right then and there since that was a big clue to how we were going to be treated.
My friend ordered medium rare steak and I ordered a medium hanger steak. The food came out and the server misplaced the steaks. I switched the plate he put in front of me. The server then handed me my medium steak without advising me the plate was hot on one side which led me to scald my hand and me dropping my main course with a loud thud on the table. I was appalled that he failed to warn me the plate was extremely hot and that i should not touch it.
My hanger steak with brandied cherries was okay and my friend who ordered the medium rare steak claimed hers was rubbery and hard to chew. She gave me a piece of hers to try and i verified it as accurate. Rubbery is exactly how hers tasted.
Besides the hand scalding ordeal I was upset that our waiter asked everyone around us how their meal was except for our table. It was like he purposely had a grudge against us.
The top floor began to fill up as we were in the middle of our meal. We noticed they placed all the asians on one side of the room. Maybe that was a coincidence because when i went down stairs to use the bathroom i noticed only Caucasians were sitting on the first floor.
I was in a better mood when the dessert came out. The maple walnut ice cream was different and yummy. However it was already too late. The mood and food was already ruined since the beginning of our meal when out waiter gave us an attitude.
I hope QM reads this review and makes some changes to the way the waiters and servers are trained. Best of luck QM. -

Wow, I was very impressed by my Restaurant Week experience here.
For only $24, my boyfriend and I had a fabulous 3-course steak lunch. First up were the super flavorful and fluffy rosemary-butter rolls, which we devoured in seconds. Our server very nicely offered us more, of course we just couldn't say no.
Then our appetizers, the steak tartare and the scallops, arrived. The tartare was well seasoned and delicious. The scallops were great too. I wished the portion size for the scallop dish were bigger (the RW size was 3 half scallops to a plate). The steak tartare was generously portioned, however.
Both of us went for the hanger steak with brandied cherry sauce for our main course. I asked for mine medium-rare, he medium. The steaks arrived just a tiiiiiny bit on the rarer side. Neither of us minded though because the 8oz slab of meat was delectable with the great brandied cherry sauce. The steak had a really nice char and 95% of the center was bloody succulent red. I normally don't like sweetness in my meats, but this cherry sauce was so incredibly developed and balanced that I didn't mind it at all. Truly a terrific dish.
Being an ice cream lover, I have nothing but praises for the awesome "dressed up scoops" of ice cream for dessert. The portions were huge! We got the mint chocolate chip and the maple walnut. Once again, both were fantastic.
I left the restaurant super satisfied and super full. Quality Meats is another great choice for Restaurant Week. And at $24, a steal! -

All in all the food was good, I highly recommend the Broccoli and Cheese balls, however the waiter we had was not so good. With many people in the dinning room the atmosphere was on the loud side, so already difficult to hear. Upon asking our waiter a question, he would pay attention to everything around him, scanning the room as he responded, which 1- made me not be able to hear him and 2- irritated me. I wasnt at the corner diner grabbing a grilled cheese I was at a steakhouse where I expected at least a level of respect, esp. considering the amount of our check for 2.
I will say however, the bartender is amazing with his Patron Tequila version of a French 75! -

Came here for restaurant week and left impressed. The steak tartare was delicious and I loved the portion size. The freshly baked bread was soft like a cloud and my friend and I couldnt stop ourselves from ordering seconds. YUM! For the main course I got the steak with brandied cherries and while delightful I was on steak overload. The desert was ice cream... tasty but took 20 minutes to come out. I would return for sure.

How do you like your meat? For one, I like mine medium rare and cooked to perfection. I wanted to enjoy this place. From the second I walked in, I loved the decor and the atmosphere. However, the service and steak turned me off. To start, the service was lacking. We sat there for way too long for the prices we were paying. It took forever for us to get someone to even take our drink order. At first we thought that a girl was our server, but midway through a guy stepped in and took over. He was a bit more attentive, but it was too little too late for my liking.
On to the steak - I got the hanger steak with brandied cherries. I should have listened to the server and ordered something else. But then again, my boyfriend ordered their bone-in filet and his steak was not much better. Although they were both medium rare, they were completely charred on the outside! I'm talking burnt to a crisp. Like that nasty barbecue taste when some amateur got a hold of the grill and forgot what they were doing. So when you're easily spending $200 on a dinner, I expect perfection. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. The saving grace for this dinner? The corn creme brulee and the gnocchi. These were two of the best side dishes I've ever had a restaurant. However, be warned they are small and will no way feed more than two people. If I had to do it all over again, I'd sit at the bar, order the two sides and a glass of wine and move on to another place who actually knows how to heat my meat. -

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, I've been there close to ten times. From the decoration to the staff to the food, everything is excellent. They have a few unique items on the menu, things like cream corn creme brulee, I have yet to eat something there I didn't like. They make there own sodas and ice cream. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Anything but quality in the meat! Very disappointed because I wanted to like this place.. The interior feels more like a restaurant then a steakhouse which is refreshing.
Sides dishes saved the meal. Steaks were average at best! I get the feeling, like most places, they have regulars who are treated like kings and queens.
Underwhelming server who could not remember who had what steak cooked at what temperature. For overpriced mediocrity I can find another chain with a better dining experience start to finish. -

To finish my Winter New York City Restaurant Week extravaganza, I met up with my girlfriend Nina for one final lunch. She raved about Quality Meats' Hanger Steak with Brandied Cherries (The photo turned out terrible, but the dish itself was amazing.), so I figured I aught to give it a try.
Of course, I eyed the menu (and salivated) for a full week before we even went. I'm a sucker for seafood, so the Seared Diver Scallops with Brussels Sprouts, Bacon & Honey Crisp Apples was the easy appetizer choice. Although the scallops were a bit thin, they were seared to perfection. The honey crisp apples really brightened the whole dish and brought a nice pop of fresh flavor. Where were the Brussels sprouts? Seriously. I hardly tasted them at all.
Also, the bacon didn't really add anything to the plate. Next time, hold the bacon and give me more Brussels sprouts! (If you can't tell, I'm enamored with Brussels sprouts lately.)
I didn't want my mid-day meal to be too heavy, so I chose the Openface Shrimp Salad Sandwich. Mistake. Don't get me wrong, it was good... I guess. The bread was probably the best part. It was still flavorful and only slightly soggy a day later. Ultimately, I gave the rest of the shrimp to my boyfriend, who also agreed it wasn't that great. I don't know whether the shrimp just wasn't extremely fresh or if it was too glopped with mayonnaise to taste good.
Either way, I should have ordered Nina's Hanger Steak with Brandied Cherries. That shit was so scrumptious. Granted, I felt like a fat whale after eating only a few bites (steak is way too heavy for lunch), but I was a happy fat whale. It was juicy, tender and not overcooked. I literally melted into my seat with each bite and probably sounded fairly close to Sally in the famous When Harry Met Sally dessert eating scene.
Speaking of dessert, it was delicious. My Tropical Sorbet had chunks of mango, or maybe it was papaya, who knows, some kind of tropical fruit in the bottom that brought a playful texture to the sorbet. Nina's Maple Walnut was rich and definitely decadent. It actually kind of tasted like bacon. -

Ok , I have to be honest I have mostly just eaten at the bar and rarely in the main dining room. That said I have worked in midtown for 15 years and am very familiar with every option in the neighborhood. The food is high quality and the atmosphere is great - it doesn't feel like you are in midtown. Although most of the clientele is corporate , it is far more appealing than Del Frisco's or Nobu (which are soooo 45 year old married wall street guy trying to feel like they are cool- so lame). The bartenders and the wait staff are very accommodating and attentive. The tuna tartare and steak tartare are great if you are looking for light bite. I love it.

Holy trendy, Batman. This place was a serious hotspot on the Friday night we arrived: the bar was packed and they didn't seat us until 20 minutes after our reservation. Admittedly we were a large party of 6, but that's what reservations are for: not to supplement your bar business, thankyouverymuch. Plus, drinks were not exactly packing a punch.
When we were finally seated, we came close to leaving. We were placed at a table right underneath the heating vents and it was BOILING. I'm a cold natured person and even I was dying: it was miserable. Not the atmosphere for any kind of dining, much less a heavy steak. Luckily, another large party was leaving across the way and we were moved, but we felt horrible for the folks who ended up sitting there: it was painful to watch them sweat. Even at our new table, it was still warm: they need to get this under control for the winter months.
The service and atmosphere hiccups are a bummer because the food was fantastic. Steak sauce made tableside (I'm typically not one to tarnish a good steak with sauce but this was heaven), heavenly butternut squash soup, and divine steaks wrapped up what could be considered a quintessential NYC meal. Everyone seemed quite pleased with their dishes, although all of the steak options were huge: it woud have been nice to have a slightly smaller option for those of us with lesser appetites who want to take advantage of apps in addition to their namesake.
The food is 5 star worthy, no doubt, but in a city full of 5 star food I can't say I'd return here. If you want a hip steakhouse in this neck of the woods I'd certainly recommend it, but if you're looking for a truly fantastic experience worthy of the truly high prices, I'd look elsewhere.Listed in: New Yawk.

Go to Quality Meats for the great lighting, nice atmosphere, great design touches, not your typical steakhouse restaurant design. I particular like the Shrimp Cocktail, Corn Creme Burlee, and the Coffee and Donuts Ice Cream.
Usually come here for some drinks and casual appetizers at the bar - Shrimp Cocktail and Corn or just for the ice cream.
I know it's a Steakhouse but the best items aren't the Steaks. Great for a group gathering at the bar. Very good wine list, Great location near Central Park. -

Like The Capital Grille, this is the high standard for steak houses in the US.
Plymouth gin? Check! Great wine list? Check Check!!
Best steak I've had in years (and I've had lots). The sides are unique and delicious. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE SWEET CORN CREME BRULEE. BEST SIDE DISH EVER!!!!
For dessert, get one of the homemade ice creams. We had the Cookie Monster, which was FANTASTIC!
This place has it all: great food, great service, great ambiance, even great bread!!!!
I plan on driving up from Boston to go to QM once a month. It's that good.
Cheers! -

Early Vday dinner last night, and it was a great.
Very bright and lit up outside, yet the main door does not look like a main door. enter, and go down a few steps and you're greeted by a host. asked for my reservation and was seated right away. at 6pm on a monday evening, it was relatively empty, it did start to fill in and was busy by the time we left. Inside was a little dark, and the interior was neither great nor terrible, non-memorable i think describes it best.
After being nicely greeted by our server, he brought out some bread, and it was probably one of the best pre-dinner breads i've ever head. warm, soft, flavorful. it had salt and (i'm not very good with spices) what i think was rosemary on top. so good i asked for a second serving, which they gladly obliged.
we ordered the Crab and Avocado for an app., and it was delicious. its slices of tomato, then a pile of crab meat, and 3 slices of avocado on top, 3x. the crab was very fresh and the dish worked well together.
I ordered the aged rib steak (bone in) and my wife ordered the filet mignon. both were good, but I was not "wowed". my wife had ordered her filet "medium" but came out more "medium-rare", as it was still very red in the center, and looked the same as mine, which i ordered medium rare. the steak was a little tougher than i thought it would be, but again, overall a very good steak. the steak sauce, which they make right in front of you, was very good too.
now here is where the winner is, the sides. we got the creamed spinach and corn creme brulee. the corn creme brulee was heaven. thats really the only way i can describe it. if i went back and could order one thing, this would be it. the creamed spinach was good, not too heavy/oily nor salty. it was actually more spinach than "cream", we got a lot of it too, most of which we brought home.
Overall great experience here, both food and service. Being on the higher end of the pricing scale, this will be the occasional splurge, if not a one time "thing to try", otherwise, highly recommended. -

We went to is Quality Meats last night. A steak house on 58th street. betweent 6th and 7th.Ave.
I ordered a beef tartar for appetizer and my friend ordered the scallops. BOTH delicious!! The fried bread for the beef tartar's a bit oily and the meat's a little bit more than i thought it'd be. but....who's gonna complain for having too much meat huh? ;P
And for the entree, I had the Hanger Steak with Blackberries. IT . WAS. HEAVEN!!! it doesn't come with any sides like fries or vegetibles.....just the steak, and the sause. But you don't really need anything else!! it's that good! The sause's a bit sweet, a bit sour, tasted perfect with my medium rare steak...mmm...yumm I wish I had more sauce.
I went for the chocolate tart for dessert. ( not a surprise.) It's a bit on the sweet side to me. But the chocolate's pretty good. It's big too. I couldn't finish the whole thing.
I give it......4 stars out of 5!! good job quality meats!!! -
