Quality was about as pleasant an experience as I could have imagined possible.

I got stuck at the Tsawwassen Ferry terminal having arrived late and missed my ferry. My wife contacted Quality and explained my situation, that I was stuck in Vancouver without a place to stay. They offered her a surprisingly low price.

The as I drove over, I wondered what kind of roach motel my wife had found for the price offered, and what I found was quite nice. After driving for roughly 6 hours, I was exhausted and the girl at the front desk, Betty, was super nice. She even charged up my ipod for me. The room itself was quite cold at first because it was a corner room with a lot of windows, but the heater took care of that in time. Everything was clean, they had cable TV, there was a newspaper at my door in the morning, and they had a free breakfast (that I didn't care for at all, but it's nice to know it's there).

I'm grateful to this place and its employees for helping me out of a jam.

I booked this hotel because of my good experience with the Quality Inn chain hotels in the US. But it turned out to be a no comparison. In the US, I usually get room options between two queen beds or one king bed. But when I checked in I was told their standard room includes only one queen size bed. The real surprise came when I opened the door. The bed is obviously too small to be called a queen bed. I called to complain but the guy at the front desk insisted that it is a queen size bed. Another problem is the room. It is located at the corner and the size was cut off by the round edge of the building. So even with the small bed, I had to put my legs into the bathroom when I sat down on the bed to stretch myself. The guy at the front desk won't do anything, not even try to be nice. I have to say this is the worst experience I had with a Quality Inn hotel.

On the plus side, this hotel is very conveniently located near the airport and right in the middle of the commercial area of Richmond, but also with easy access to a big beautiful community park. I felt the neighborhood (mainly Chinese and Indian) is very safe, even though the hotel posts some scary 'At your own risk' signs in its stair entrance and basement which serves as the parking garage. Since the complimentary breakfast quality was so poor I chose to eat out in the nearby shopping centers during my three day stay there and I was glad to find some really good Chinese restaurants.

To sum up, I don't think this hotel deserves a 2-star and won't stay there again. But I like the location and will look into other hotels in the same area (plenty of them) when I go to Vancouver in the future.

By the way, if you ever need to stay in that hotel, check the shampoo before using it. My hair got very sticky just like coming out of a bad maintained swimming pool after applying their blue shampoo.
