Ordered the Katsu don, pork w/ rice, again, though i vowed to try something new...

but for this humungus portion for $5.95, and enough food for 3 meals for some, seriously, how can anyone go wrong with this?

and pork is a bit healthier than beef, lol.

    Was this review …?

Had an opportunity to wreck myself on their takeout.

Don't know about the parking or the pricing, as someone else picked up the food.  And paid for it.  (Yay!)

The rolls are done quite well here.  The sashimi is fresh, and the slices are nice and thick.  The filling for the rolls is quite sufficient to keep one happy.  They don't go crazy on the rice, which is good.  Just the right amount.

The beef terayaki is also light on the sauce, which is good as many other places drench the food with that stuff.

I can't talk about the value as I don't know the pricing, but the sushi here is freaking good.  Rivals Samurai for awesomeness.  Recommended.

Prices are ridiculously cheap, unbelievable specials! Small place can get very busy but worth the wait, service is really good even though she was too busy for one person. I would be a regular here for sure given the chance.

It seems that you can't walk a block on Broadway without running into a sushi restaurant offering a tantalizingly cheap special. At the end of the day, QQ is another one of these- but it's one of the best.

For $5.95, they'll serve up a combo with generous portions of kappa, yam tempura, california, and dynamite rolls, and miso soup on the side. The quality is consistently good, and on the rare, ravenous occasions I've added on gyoza, agedashi tofu, or spring rolls, I've found them to be equally tasty.

It's important to know what you're getting into when you're heading out for sushi. QQ isn't much of a date spot or a place to have a meal and catch up with old friends- but if you're in the mood for cheap, tasty sushi, it's definitely my top recommendation on Broadway.

And a quick tip- they serve their takeout in earth-hating styrofoam, but if you phone in advance and let them know, you can bring your own container that they'll pack it in.

Solid cheap and cheerful sushi joint. It's not fancy, but you'll fill your belly with decent food for $5.95. I love having it in my neighbourhood for those days when I come home starving and have no groceries in the house. Service isn't spectacular, but they are definitely quick.

Our best spot yet for "value" sushi.  I have them custom make a 10 piece tuna sashimi for us, and we have always found the tuna quality VERY good.  I add a generous avacado roll and yam roll, then go from there.  Great tip on BYOB (Bring Your Own Boxes) below, from Brian!  No low sodium soy sauce, even for eating in.

Standard Vancouver sushi. And well, that's not a bad thing!

I eat lunch from here every so often because of the location. I wouldn't describe anything as excellent, but definitely nothing bad.  Many of the spicy rolls are really more sweet than they are spicy, but they still taste good.  The "spicy" tofu and "spicy" salmon rolls for example are drizzled with what tastes kind of like hoisin sauce with a touch of chilies.  The spicy tuna is a little more on the right side of spicy.  Their spicy tuna cones are pretty delicious, actually. I love cones, it's like being some malicious maybe even post-apocalyptic little mermaid in a freaky undersea ice cream parlor tearing into seaweed and your former little fish buddies as soy sauce drips savagely down off your elbows.  And anyways, their cones are pretty good.

The rice tends to be a bit over-cooked, but if you're a hobo like me it means it's still pretty edible the next day! I haven't been sick yet from day-old sushi from QQ!

If you're looking for take-out during the lunch rush though, definitely call ahead.

QQ is nothing special, but it's a solid local sushi place, and is by far my favourite in the area.

Quality can be changeable, but as long as you stick within what they do best (sashimi, simple rolls, gyoza) it's always at least good, and can be great for the super low prices you're paying. I'd recommend sticking with the simple rolls though, as their 'chef''s specials' are often poorly made and can be disappointing.

A friend and I were heading to Suika after work tonight,  I love Suika, their food rocks. Sadly, they were closed. So we went into QQ next door. WAH WAH.

Oh Josh, you are wise about sushi places and I should have read your review before we made this decision. It's no Suika substitute, it's a ten a penny sushi joint. We should have walked around the block and waited for Suika to open their doors. They have green tea ice cream.

Oh right, the QQ review. Yeah, bland California rolls, greasy tempura, same sad average sushi that you can get at any of these places across the city. I've had more bad sushi in Vancouver than in any other city in the world.

How far can you walk in any Vancouver neighbourhood before you see a sushi restaurant?  It's like a Zen riddle.

No but seriously, I think there are more sushi joints in this city than Starbuckses.  I think there are more sushi places here than ironic-mustache-sporting hipsters riding fixies.  There are more sushi stands than tiny sweatered dogs sticking out of Yaletown yoga-pants-wearing cell-phone-walk-and-talking real estate agents' purses.  There are more sushi restaurants than there are one-dimensional Vancouver stereotypes for me to make fun of.

There are so many sushi places that when one closes down, another one opens in its place.  Like QQ, which opened up immediately after Opera Sushi closed down in the same location.  But I'm not complaining... like QQ, most of them are A-OK.  As usual, the rolls are slightly too big to be eaten in one bite, and moving them around with chopsticks is difficult -- which is annoying; but the fish is fresh and the food tastes good.  The miso soup here is a little different, in a good way.

One of the many benefits of having 3.5 sushi restaurants per capita is that they are usually incredibly cheap.  QQ is no exception.  We had a specialty roll, a BC roll, a nigiri combo plate, an order of gyoza and two miso soups for $11.50 each (incl tax and tip).

generous portion, sauce least salty (in fact a little water down but this is very fine  with me - I prefer flavoring rather than "salted") and batter could be lighter/thinner.
It was not oil-contaminated or salty as compared to other Japanese restaurants.  For their "healthy style", I give them 2 stars + 2 stars for the price/portion. My first time today, well I definitely would go back again ....

well all take-out from any restaurants use "earth-hating" styrofoam - perhaps we as consumers should do our duties pay them more to use bio-degradable version or sit down and enjoy the meals instead.

Had my second lunch from QQ Sushi. The first time I went in to pick up the order. The place was packed. And boy - what luscious sushi. Yes, that's the word - luscious. Which isn't necessarily a good thing...except that it is. Fresh, juicy, flavourful. Yummy.

I went again this week, but didn't order ahead. Because it was before noon, there wasn't a line-up, but there were a few customers seated. It was somewhat of a wait, which was fine - except that (as another reviewer noted) the greasy smell started to get to me a bit.

Service is average - a bit abrupt, but not quite rude. Not entirely efficient, but satisfactory.

Overall, the food is good value for money, and I will definitely go again. but I will order ahead for sure!

Standard and reliable. No negative surprises so far.
Been getting take-out there every once in a while - good bang for your buck. The rolls are so huge, they are hard to manage with with chopsticks sometimes.

QQ Sushi is still fairly new in the neighbourhood and we decided to check it out last weekend because, let's face it, the sandwich board offering a 19pc special for $5.95 was right in our price bracket!

The restaurant, itself, was spacious and the sushi chefs are centrally located. There was plenty of seating and everything was clean and fresh. The wait staff was friendly without hovering.

Low priced sushi can often mean a cut in quality. I'm happy to say that the rolls we experienced were moist, fresh, amply cut and delicious. The special contained the usual California Roll - only, in this case, it was full to bursting and very fresh - Kappa roll, Yam Tempura Roll (yum) and (my favourite) Dynamite Roll.

Along with sushi, we opted for the mixed Tempura and the two, together, turned out to be much more than we could devour, hungry as we were. A third person would've been just right, in my opinion.

I'll be back to check out the sizable Chef Specialty Rolls, which feature the usual favourites (Dragon Roll and Rainbow Roll) and some I've yet to experience (Crunch Roll, Maple Roll, Magma Roll?)

It looks like we've found another local restaurant to add to our dining out rotation!

I'm always on the lookout for tasty vegetarian sushi rolls. So far, I have found one place in the city of Vancouver that offers such a thing at reasonable prices.

I wandered down to QQ Sushi, formerly Opera Sushi, because I figured a brand new place might have a new, fresh menu. I was a little disappointed to find out that it's just like every hole-in-the-wall sushi place in the city, where the veggie menu is basically kappa, avocado, vegetable, or yam tempura roll. I ordered the yam, and a sunomono salad. The salad was way too vinegary for my taste (and I have been known to drink those little packets of vinegar when out for fries). The yam tempura roll was literally dripping with grease, and left me with a stomach ache for the entire day, even though I didn't finish it. I know I am sensitive about how much grease is on my food, but this was ridiculous. A yam tempura roll shouldn't be sitting in a puddle of its own oils.

I don't live or work close enough to this place to have any desire to give it a second try. I don't mean that to sound as though this place is terrible beyond redemption, but it's out of my way and I wouldn't make the trek again. So, why did I give it 2 stars? I dunno. I guess because there's a lot of the menu I haven't tried (but won't bother to).

The Sushi special was pretty good for its price $5.95 for 19 pieces and I thought the dynamite roll was pretty good. But I gotta say the ventilation in the restaurant was really bad and all my clothes smelled like refried oil. So next time I would order via the phone and maybe get them to allow me to pick it up and pay outside so I wont smell so bad.

We love this place!  It is good quality for amazing value.  The owners are very nice.  The sushi rice is perfect, the rolls are fresh and the gyoza is excellent (light with good seasoning, not just a hard mass of pork like some places)
