My go-to Chinese take-out restaurant when I want cheap but tasty food.
My husband and I usually order the same three dishes, as they are consistently good and make for great leftovers:
Ginger Fried Tofu
Vegetable Chow Mein
Szechuan Vegetables
As mentioned in another review, it is greasy - but, I whole-heartedly know it, when ordering :) -

Purple Garden serves greasy Chinese-Canadian goodness, but they thankfully don't put MSG in their food an therefore I do not get sick after eating it.
They make the best Ginger Fried Tofu - it's sweet, greasy, rich, and perfect for curing a hangover. Chow mein, fried rice, and all of the other dishes are serviceable, but nothing extraordinary.
The buffet in the restaurant appears to be fairly popular, especially when the food is hot and fresh.
Purple Garden delivers within a 5km radius. Unfortunately, I have moved outside of this radius. -

It's greasy, filling, consistant and most importantly cheap.
This is not a gourmet chinese resturaunt, but it's a great staple.
Take out is pretty much always ready in 20-30 minutes, you can pretty much always get a table and the buffet comes with free fountain pop and desert. -

We had the buffet and it was a mix of fried sweet and cold flavorless food. Not going back here again.

This is a review from someone who has taken out food from Purple Garden for 4 years now.
I have never eaten-in, so I can't comment on that, but for take-out, it's awesome.
I've lost count of how many times I've eaten their food - but it's consistent and it's good, classic, cheap Chinese food.
They are not trying to be the best Chinese food in town, and they shouldn't! There are lots of other overpriced Chinese food places in the area you can go to if you want.
Purple Garden is where you go when you want the classic (somewhat) greasy, succulent, mouth watering, take-out Chinese food that brings back nostalgic memories of brown paper bag family dinners when no-one feels like cooking.
Purple Garden has gotten me through many an exam period when I need a reliable source of tasty food that is super fast to get, and well priced.
I have eaten at many other Chinese places in town, and there are others that have better food - But for what it is, and for the price you pay, and for the consistency - Purple Garden is awesome.
Don't expect gourmet, but do expect excellent classic Chinese food.
I recommend the beef chop suey - it's perfect :) -

I thought the food was ABSOLUTELY disgusting! Restaurant was dirty, food was below sub-par, half the items were gone, and not being replaced. It was a complete rip-off $31.25 (2 people) as far as I was concerned. Dessert was ice cream!?? I was told about this restaurant from a friend who obviously doesn't know good food if it slapped him in the face. And....victoria's largest chinese buffet!?? I don't think so....try Szechuan city. False advertising & thoroughly disappointed :(

Review from Jason C.
Victoria, BC
Great Chinese food even the Chinese would be impressed. The Sweet and sour pork and Ginger beef were amazing, the chicken fried rice was amazing but the Chow Mein noodles were just average. Portions seemed generous although we got the meal for 3 and there were only 2 of us, so we had enough for 2 days. We ate out but inside looked pretty cozy and nice. Not the cheapest Chinese food but well worth the price. We will return.

Pretty decent chinese buffet. Not the biggest selection but all pretty decent. Ginger beef is excellent, squid is mediocre, that kinda thing. Price is moderate. HUGE seating capacity if you want to have a party.
