Review from Isabel G.
I like coming here on Pure University nights. Mostly because going to UB, I was under 21 until recently and it's a great place to hang out with friends and dance. They are really strict about the discounted cover before Midnight. I had gotten there before midnight.. but the line was so long I waited for like 30-40 mins and it was too late. I had to pay $10 for under 21. My boyfriend paid $8 for 21+. WHAT? Totally unfair...
But anyways it's a huge place! I love dancing there. The music is great.. I just don't like that the dance floor is a lower section of the floor... meaning take 2-3 steps down in the center and that small area is the dance floor. The stairs just get in the way... I don't understand why it couldn't just all be level. I love dancing there but I hate that I'm ALWAYS getting stepped on by guys. That sh*t hurts!
They frequently have dance contests for $1000 cash. These contests just involve young girls flaunting their junk in front of everyone. Few of them are good while others are just jiggly their disgusting fat and cellulite at everyone. It truly is a disturbing sight. The white girls are terrible dancers and look like plump sausages wrapped up in pre-shrunken fabric that shrank again in the dryer. The Hispanic and black girls know how to dance and don't even need to show off as much skin as the white girls to WIN! LOL
The upstairs has a mini dance floor for those who wanna pretend they're whores dancing in a caged area. It also has standing/sitting areas if you want to watch or just get a breather. There is also a roofless room where you can get some fresh cold area and have a cigarette (gross). I like that room because it's cooling but.... it smells way too much like cigarettes there.
Overall, it's a great place to dance with your friends. I'd say come on Thursday for reduced cover. Saturdays is 21+ nights. Get on their facebook if you wanna find out any other discount days. They also have a wonderful photographer with a wide angle lens that takes amazing pictures of everyone for free. -

Buffalo, NY
Probably the nicest club in Buffalo but they also have the cocky attitude of that as well (as do their patrons). Always a cover of $10-20 which blows but once you get past that, this club could pass as one in any major metropolitan area. They have a state-of-the-art sound/lighting system complete w/ fog machines, strobes, and all the bells & whistles. It features an enormous first floor with a pitted area for the dance floor. Staircases on both sides lead up to the 2nd floor which is basically a hang out spot that surrounds the perimeter allowing you to look down at the crowd on the first floor. There's also a platform area which seems like it should be for hired go-go dancers but I rarely see anyone have the balls to go on it.
Furthermore, there are multiple rooms - there's the "Wet Lounge" to your right when you first enter full of top-shelf liquor, plenty of tables, and its own DJ. Then on the 2nd floor, there's the "Dirty Lounge" which is VIP access. Also there's the "Twilight Lounge" which is more like an outdoor smoking patio which has lots of tables as well and claims to have a "Miami" vibe but I'm pretty sure no one uses this when it's cold out. Full bars on both floors.
They always have a wide variety of DJs playing there and in the few times I've gone, they've been pretty obnoxious. Less talking, more music please. Also, not every night is the standard pop/top 40 stuff - they often have electronica nights where it's JUST that kind of music which can hard to dance to at times. Also, this place is notorious for their "College Nights" where they let in under-aged girls so fellas beware. -

Chinatown, Manhattan, NY
I think this place lost tons of points when it switched from Level to Pure. (Level was the club before they switched owners/management) The manager, who used to be an awesome bartender at Level and who was always very nice to me and my friends (he hooked us up plenty), has since become somewhat of an a-hole. All the power n money musta gotten to his head cuz he aint a nice guy no more.
Anyway, Pure took on Level's mantel (though not as well) as the best night club in Buffalo. Its the SECOND biggest space in Buffalo (Town Ballroom is bigger) and THIRD if you consider the Pleasure Dome out in Niagara. However, out of these 3 it has the best looking interior.
The music since the switch has turned a lot more electro spinning tons more house and such than before. That said they still mix in top40s and hip hop. Social's music better than Pure's, in my opinion.
As you can see, I don't think Pure is that awesome (Level is though) because the staff (bartenders, bouncers, def the manager, etc) are all stuck up and cocky and the music isn't as great anymore. They're super strict with their dress code that its almost ridiculous. And I don't wanna play the card but they can show some prejudice sometimes if you know what I mean......
The only thing that keeps me coming back here is because its popular. A lot of people come here so of course I would come by if theres a party going on. That said, sometimes its unsually dead. Last time I went during the weekend there was probably a total of 50 people in a club that can hold around 800-1000 people.....wierd -

Grand Island, NY
Well, let me start off by saying that Buffalo nightlife kind of sucks to begin with. But, as far as places on the Chippewa strip go, I think Pure is the place to be.
It's definitely the biggest to my knowledge. Pure used to be called Level, but new owners took it over and made some changes, including the name. They re-did several sections inside, including turning the front bar area into "Wet" lounge, which is reserved for 21+ only (most nights this club accepts 18+). They also have a separate VIP area called Dirty, but I have never been in there, so I can't give my opinion on that.
DJ here is very hit or miss. I have been there when they don't play one bad song, and I have been here when all they play is straight trance & progressive. The best nights to go are when they have special events, even though the cover charges go up. I have seen both Snooki & J-Woww from Jersey Shore here, which I thought was pretty cool. I have also been here for their "Ibiza nights" and they do put on a good show - They even had a fire-breather outside!
Drink prices are pretty average for Buffalo: $5-8 for a mixed drink, and $3-6 for a beer. I love that they have an outdoor lounge upstairs where you can smoke and sit down for a few minutes. Cover prices here can vary, but tend to be about $5 for over 21, and $10 for 18-20. When they have a special event, you can expect to pay $15-20 for cover. There is almost always a line outside Pure & it's easy to see why - no other club on Chippewa really compares to this place! -

Costa Mesa, CA
Easily the best nightclub in Buffalo. That's not saying very much, but I'll take what I can get when I'm not on vacation in nightlife havens like Las Vegas (best club scene, period), Los Angeles or New York.
As with most Buffalo bars/clubs entry is 18+ (21+ only on Saturdays). Their space alone helps the popularity: the ground level houses the main dance floor directly between the DJ booth and main bar, plus a second bar/lounge/VIP area called "Wet" which is 21+ only and usually has it's own DJ spinning. Wet serves only premium liquors--in actual glasses--and features mojitos and martinis as house specialties.
The second floor is mezzanine-style (open in the middle), which gives great views of all the action below. It also features a small bar, access to their semi-covered smoking lounge with seating anyone can use (no VIP tables), access to their bi-level bottle service-only lounge "Dirty", two VIP booths that hang over the main floor, and the bathrooms. According to their website (as of today) they call the outdoor smoking area the "Twilight Patio", and say it has a bar featuring tropical drinks and VIP tables, but is listed as "coming soon". They're re-designing it to serve more purposes than just to have a quick cigarette, but it's not done yet.
Their house DJs spin the Chippewa-typical top 40 remixes and hip-hop, plus a good selection of house and progressive (usual not 'til later in night). They also have special events with guest DJs all the time, most of which are electronic-focused and stay away from top 40 if that's more your thing.
Drinks are average priced for the area, $3-6 beers, and $5+ cocktails. Patrón is my shot of choice, but the only bar out of 3 that serves it is Wet's. A little annoying, but at least they have it. They do take credit cards, but impose a tab minimum which I believe is only $20 or $25, so it's more than reasonable. Depending on who you get, bartenders can leave something to be desired, so if you want to be safe, order a beer.
Cover ranges anywhere from $5-$20 depending if you're over or under 21, your gender, and what night you come on (special events are always $10+). Thursdays is their college night, and if you RSVP to their college events on Facebook you get free or reduced cover (again, based on age and gender).
If I'm on the Chip Strip on any given night, odds are you'll find me at Pure. -

Okay don't compare this to New York City or Toronto clubs, but if we compare this club in Western New York clubs this is the best so far.

New York, NY
I don't go to Buffalo to go clubbing.. but if that's what you are looking for Pure will be the closest thing you'll get to it. It is no NYC club... but they'll charge NYC prices. $15-20 cover... $6 drinks... etc If you're just in the mood for a drink...my suggestion is to take advantage of the vibrant bar scene and go bar hopping on Chippewa instead.
