I needed a mani; I hate making appointments. Solution: weekday trip to Pure Nail Bar. They're walk-in friendly, although, I found their reception a bit confusing... what do you need, sit here, no sit here. Finally, I got seated at the nail bar, where a television plays Sex and the City nonstop (yay!).
The Vietnamese manicurists worked on my battered digits, gave me a hell of a hand massage, and murmured to one another in their native language as they worked. At first, I found that oft-putting, but then again there was the TV for entertainment, plus my commitment to awkward conversation was minimized.
About an hour later and $40 bucks with tax and tip, I was out of there admiring my pretty French manicure. I'm glad it was cheap, since I cannot step five feet away from the nail salon without wrecking the polish job. At that price, I can always go back, and practice the art of not mussing a manicure! -

I went to the Denman one a few years ago and hated it. Only because I took my mother. My mother deserves better. I was mislead by my sister's friends; perhaps they don't mind taking their moms to chop-shops. The latter is perfect for me, but not for my mother and likely not for yours?
Case and point - the Denman location is now closed.
But while in Vancouver last week I found myself wandering, as I often do, and needed to revamp my fingers. And there Pure was. So I decided to give it a second chance.
A little bit of background, from my perspective, Pure Nail Bar is your run-of-the-mill mani/pedi shop yet they hold themselves out as a classier nail bar. I like chop-shops, but at chop-shop prices. Pure is more expensive. Their staff is prickly, and my mani chipped within two days.
The question I pose to fellow Yelpers is: if you can get what Pure's selling but for less money (Harmonie is an option), wouldn't you rather do that? Or the other side of the coin is that you can pay a few dollars more than Pure and relax in the lap of luxury at Absolute or Le Petit.
This second chance was a wash. And it took me exactly three minutes to share that with you. -

I've had a few mani/pedis at this location. The first couple of times were great. But unfortunately, the third time was not so great... My nails were not filed evenly - they slanted down slightly to the right and I had to ask the esthetician to correct it.
In general, I really like the atmosphere there and enjoyed watching Sex and the City. It's great to feel pampered while be entertained by Carrie Bradshaw and the girls. But I found it very annoying that no one changed the dvd when it was over - it kept playing the same intro song/trailer for about 20 minutes. There were a couple of people behind the counter, but no one bothered to change the disc. And I didn't want to ask my esthetician, as she was not too happy about having to change my nail polish colour :( So although I have had very positive experiences here, they might need to work on delivering better and more consistent service. -

This place is pretty sad. Literally. I used a gift certificate here and I don't think the girl doing my nails smiled once or even attempted to strike up a conversation. The polish job was pretty slapdash. Nothing relaxing or luxurious about the experience.

My first manicure at this place was a bad experience. I walked in at 4:00pm by appointment and the people who work there just looked at me and they don't even say anything or even greet me. You know how awkward it was to walk in and just stand there and have everyone look at you??? Finally someone just asked me if I had an appointment and they had me seated. That was the very first bad experience.
Secondly, The job was done decently, I give them that, but telling me that it will be done at a certain time, but ended up not finishing as mentioned just doesn't do it for me. My nail tech lady told me to put my nails under a nail dryer and she walked off. That was around 4:25pm. The lady told me it will be done within 45mins. Therefore, one would think your nails will be done by around 4:45-4:50pm. But nope!! I was sitting there till 5:15pm!! That's more than an hour!!!! By 4:45pm I kept looking at the lady who was helping me, she CLEARLY saw me looking at her and she didn't even come check on my nails.
Just very bad service!! I would NEVER come back!! -

I've been here a few times and never been disappointed. Good casual atmosphere and they do a nice job every time. The price is not astronomical either, and I trust them more than some of the dubious looking nail places that crop up in Yaletown - can you say money laundering front? :)
I recommend this place to anyone looking for a fairly quick, no nonsense, reasonably priced mani or pedi. -

In Vancouver, the beauty industry does NOT regulate itself. Meaning, anyone can take a course and without a level of any professionalism or check and balances can start their career. So, it's important to go to a nail place where sanitary rules are upheld. Which is why I go to Pure Nail Salons. I am never worried about the sanitary conditions or that I will be cut or hurt. My nails also won't be field down to the tip of my finger bone. Really it's bad out there. Oh, and I love watching Sex and the City episodes while I get my mani and pedi combo done. The French Manicures are very nice and the pedicures last longer than most.

$35 was a great deal for a pedicure! What I really liked that no one tried to up sell me with callous remover or a flower. Everything seemed clean and all of the staff were professional. There's no massage chairs, which is fine by me as these are not exactly sanitary. They soak your feet in metal bowls instead. Really enjoyed the included salt scrub. My feet are soft and nails are perfectly shiny. I will definitely be coming back.

Went to Pure Nail Bar this week with my husband for a mani/pedi. We couldn't be happier. We love the living room style and everyone was so nice to us...asking if we wanted something to drink and offering us a magazine. Everything was so clean and comfortable and both my hubby and I were so pleased with our mani and pedi...AND best of all, there was a promo going on where we each got a free pair of flip flops with the purchase of a mani & pedi. We will be back next week!!! Thanks for the great service.
