While I do love this place, it just isn't up to snuff with Truffle Treasures, which is why I can't give them that fifth star. That being said, if you're on Elgin, don't pass this place up!
The one things that does set Pure Gelato apart from Truffle Treasures are their amazing crepes. I can never finish a whole serving, but they're perfect for sharing! I totally agree with some other users who've said it would be a great date spot.
The environment is super casual and the neon decor always makes me smile. The first few times I went there I thought the service was horrible, but lately it's been much better. I do love that they let you sample the gelato flavors.
This place is also great for those lactose-intolerant folks who need something yummy to cool down a hot summer day. They have a ton of dairy-free flavors (my favorite are the lemencello and raspberry - delish!) that don't make you feel deprived.
They also have a selection of coffees and some other baked goods.
This place is a huge hot spot during the summer especially in the evening. They're open till midnight on weekend and 11 p.m. on weeknights, and there's usually a lineup in the summer after 9 p.m. -

Out of all the gelato places I've been, Pure has the best selection. They sell crepes and sandwiches too, I've heard their crepes are unreal and I can't wait to try them once I'm in Ottawa again. Every kind of gelato I've had here has been fantastic but my favorite I've tried is called cookies, it's so rich and delicious and I made the mistake of getting a large I didn't end up eating. I find this is the case for most kinds I've had, a small/medium works just fine.I'm also a fan of their chocolate chip cookie dough kind, which has giant chunks of cookie dough in it. The staff here is always polite and pretty fast to take my order.

I love gelato. I'm pretty sure I can go on a pure gelato diet or a diet of pure gelato. Actually I'm pretty sure 2 of my friends would tell you that I have in the past for extended periods.
People will argue to death which gelato place in town is best and I'll be the first to tell you that you shouldn't listen to them, they're idiots. Between this place, Piccolo Grande and the place in Little Italy (which I can't remember the name) they all make a few flavours that are really good. At Pure Gelato I love the Dolce Latte and I think most of their coffee flavours are really good and better than the other 2 places. I don't love the fruit flavours as much as the other 2 places but they're still really good here.
The staff's awesome and will allow you to sample multiple flavours!
The crepes are good but try some gelato.
NOTE: If you don't come down to Elgin much and spend time in the Byward Market, you can go to Sugar Mountain to get some Pure Gelato as they rent space there. -
Review from Chris Y.
Definitely some good gelato. Nice location on Elgin Street makes it convenient to stop and grab a cup of gelato here after eating at any one of the many nearby restaurants; however, parking is tough! Compared to their location in ByWard Market, this place is definitely bigger, with more seating, and more flavors! Otherwise, I found Pure Gelato to be generally above-average, though nothing really spectacular about it to earn that 5th star.

This is a perfect place if you're going on a relaxed and low key date.
Pure Gelato can on some summer evenings have a lineup out the door so do keep that in mind if you have your heart set on their yummy frozen goodness.
They actually do serve sandwich type products as well as crepe but I've only ever tried their frozen yogurt and usually I always mix it up.
They have spicy (yes, spicy) frozen flavours, lots of different types of chocolate flavours and endless fruit options. Go with the waffle bowl and get three flavours mixed. I avoid the cones because it's bound to just fall all over you or run down your arm.
I said it was good for dates but don't order something that will slop all over ya!
You can eat in or take it across the street to Minto Park or go for a longer walk to the canal where you can usually find a bench and enjoy the view a bit more. -

Gelato lovers will enjoy this place.
I bit of a walk down Elgin coming from the downtown/parliament area, but it's worth it!
A tip- If you don't enjoy things in huge servings, I suggest you just get a small cup of gelato. Trust me, it's huge! It doesn't look big but it sure fills you up fast. I didn't even finish mine.
I find their fruit flavoured gelato's to be sour. If you aren't into sour and making those silly sour faces as you eat one, I suggest you go for their other flavours. I liked the chocolate gelato very much. I'm not even one to prefer gelato as a dessert, but this one was pretty good!
My sister ordered one of their crepes, and it was delicious! It came with a couple of scoops if ice cream. This order was again, huge! It took up a whole plate, good for sharing. Best part: it tasted like ferrero rocher! I'm sure it was the hazelnut in it!
This place is perfect for a first date. Good place to talk, over delicious food.
Prices seem a bit up there for desserts, but you are getting A LOT so it is getting your money's worth.
If you sit at the booth seats neat the entrance, you can look out the big glass window and see Elgin's strip. -

The food this place serves is reason enough to go here. Add to that a great location and a good staff and you have the makings of a hit.
Pure Gelato is on Elgin, right beside Elgin's cluster of bars. In a busy area like Elgin, this is a great place to stop off if you've been shopping, or are just taking a nice walk. It's a perfect place to take a date after dinner, or as your first stop as you go for stroll with your significant other.
The service is great, with the staff being made up of 20-somethings, they are easy to relate to and they will give you great advice on the gelato itself.
And the Gelato is the reason to go here above anything else. I believe Gelato is an Italian version of frozen yogurt. I'm not sure, and I'm also not sure what the Italian word for amazing is, but it should be used when speaking about Pure Gelato. The flavours are all over the map, which makes it fun to experiment. You can even buy larger quantities if you want to bring some home. -

I went to Italy about four years ago. I enjoyed the pasta, the wine, the pizza, the Coliseum, Pompeii, and even the beer. But, my wife (who has also been to Italy) has always given me such a hard time for not trying one particular Italian delight - gelato. So, one day, just to shut her up, I dragged her into Pure. Pure is on Elgin, in the middle of the bar district and right next to Sugar Mountain. The place is very hip in terms of decor and makes a nice change of pace from all the pubs and dance clubs on that strip. The gelato is delish - it comes in so many amazing flavours, such as chocolate, cappuccino, melon, apple, and even vanilla! I am sorry I didn't try it in its home country, but Pure is a pretty cool substitute.

My wife was really in the mood for a crepe during our visit to Ottawa, so I hit the Net looking for a place to take her. The Yelp recommendations about this place were right on. We had a Nutella and strawberry crepe with a dip of vanilla gelato and they made it fresh right there in front of us. We were happy campders. No complaints.
