Purdy's to me is very much my Vancouver landmark. I know it exists outside of BC, but when I see it's purple logo, all I can think of it seems is Vancouver and Mint Melties.

My latest find is their Pink Salt Chocolate covered Caramels and the Pink Salt Chocolate covered Peanut Butter. Two other Kryptonites I have in the land of sweets:
Salted Caramel, and Peanut Butter anything. If you like either of these particular sweetnesses, I recommend you try it.

Mint Melties will forever go down as my"go-to-thing-at-Purdy's" and I think from now on, these will be my top 3 things I will bring back with me from my travels back to YVR.

Wow Purdy's has good ice cream. I got a single scoop in a waffle cone, dipped in crushed peanuts and it was only $3.75. Also, a pretty good portion for a "single" scoop. I could never have finished a double.

They don't have a lot of flavours, but I can't imagine why anyone would get anything other than chocolate. It has chocolate chips in it.

The peanut butter bars. Enough said.

Okay... maybe not really enough said. Purdy's is (or at least was at one point) a Western Canada thing. I did the majority of my growing up in Ontario where Laura Secord was where you went for truffles and fancy chocolate bars.

Purdy's... you had me at hedgehogs.

Since moving out West, Purdy's has become almost a staple in gift-giving within my family. I can't go a holiday without receiving that classic triangle shaped box of hedgehogs... or mini hedgehogs.

I've come here on occasion to grab a box of chocolates for someone, and I like how you can mix and match different chocolates and leave out the ones you know the recipient won't like. And, it's moderately priced. You'll pay more than you would grabbing a box of Pot of Gold chocolates, but it's affordable, and the quality is worth it.

I can hardly walk by a Purdy's without grabbing at least peanut butter bar (or 3). Mmm!

One word: Ice Cream (OK, two words)

I'm the odd one that hangs out at Purdys for the ice cream not the chocolates. Sometimes they have some rocking great flavours, sometimes . .  not so much. Their ice cream selection tends to be hit and miss but considering that the alternative in the mall is Dairy Queen, I'll take my chances here.

    O.M.G... S.G.B... W.H.Y.B.A.M.L.Y.S.L.D.S. ?!?!

Translation = Oh My God... Sweet Georgia Browns... Where Have You Been All My Life You Sneaky Little Delicious Sneakersons ?!?!

First of all I am NOT a chocolate lover by any means.  When patients bring See's and Ghirardelli to my department at work, I always decline. It doesn't even tempt me in the least.  But there's something about these magical little Purdy treats... I found myself eating one 5 min after I woke up one morning, telling my fiance with a mouth full of sticky caramel, chocolate and pecan delight, "Damnbabe...*nom-nom-nom-nom-nom-nom-nom* Weshouldgetmoreofthese."

    "What did you say?"

    "Nothingnothing...*nom-nom*... shhhhhhhhhhh...*spraying out pecan flecks*... Don'truinthemoment..."

Thank goodness there are Purdy locations sprinkled around everywhere in Vancouver.  It makes it pretty convenient when you get that 'you will stop at nothing in order to get one of these things' craving.

Ever need that chocolate fix in the middle of a shopping spree. Well that was me last night and of course Purdy's was right there. What a sight for sore eyes! I got my sugar boost in a minty bar and was able to get the fiance a nice little surprise too. He's always saying how I never think of him when I am out shopping for myself so Purdy's you helped me prove him wrong.

Now this isn't your high-end, gourmet chocolate but it's the next best thing. If you haven't had a Sweet Georgia Brown then you don't know what you are missing. Of course, being close to Christmas they have loads of pre wrapped boxes filled with these delicious little bits of chocolate. They also carry a variety of diabetic chocolates too, so you can share with everyone.

The service was also fantastic. The cashier was friendly and oh so nice. I will definitely be back to this location.

I love the dipped ice cream bars here. If you're ever in need for a treat while shopping, or something cool to munch on as you stroll around downtown, grab a dipped ice cream bar.

Make sure the try the double dip, dipping the ice cream bar in White AND Dark chocolate ... mmm! Really good!

I like the fact that this is a Canadian company, nothing wrong with supporting Canadian companies!

With only one sales person on the wait was rather long, however eventually the chocolate decadence was ours. :)
The second sales person was on the phone but finished and zoomed over.

Purdy's is kind of ubiquitous and not all high-end and gourmet, but dammit, I love it anyway. Who couldn't love a purple and gold box of chocolate hedgehogs with the truffle-like centre? Or the divine peanut shaped chocolate bar filled with peanut buttery goodness? Or best of all, one of their ice cream bars rolled in melted chocolate and nuts?

If you're stuck for a gift idea, and you don't want to spend a fortune, you can't go wrong with some Purdy's. Most people love them, and they're a local company, too. They even have sugar-free chocolates made with maltitol, a sugar-derived alcohol, for diabetics and others who can't eat too much sugar.

All the stores are fairly small, and this location is particularly claustrophobia-inducing due to it's high-traffic location in Pacific Centre. Ah well, the elbowing must work off a few calories. Right?

Purdy's chocolates has only two products that stand out. Their very famous chocolate hedgehogs and their delicious peanut butter chocolate fingers. The rest is just BLAH...... YUCK.... FORGET ABOUT IT... because they're no better than stuff you can get at the drugstore or discount grocery store.

I absolutely hate Purdy's chocolates with cream fillings as they're insanely sweet to the point that your teeth will experience pain. Very pointless, like eating pure white sugar.

It's Sweet... no Salty.... no Sweet.... no Salty... IT"S BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quest to Eat Vancouver's 101 Best Things
    Item: Sweet George Browns
    Price: $4.00 / pack (contains 2)
Cuisine: Chocolate and more chocolate (and ice cream too)
Worthy of being on the list - ohhhh yah!

Comments: You know how there are drinks such as Salty hot chocolate and Sweet and Salty granola bars? This beats allll that... it can get pretty salty, but the sweetness just melts in your mouth makes everything taste soooo chocolicious! I would have to say for two chocolates (the size of those turtles).. it's a little pricey. They have other chocolate bars that you can buy in sets of three which may be more worth it.. but it's definitely worth trying :)

Not impressed.  I had a taste of the milk chocolate and the dark chocolate.  To me- it was like eating Hershey's chocolate.  Don't get me wrong- it's chocolate and it's good.  But why pay 5 times for "specialty" chocolate that tastes like the cheap stuff?  It's no Godiva.

However-some of the gift sets are packaged nice.  (Again not worth the price)  And could be a good gift, for those of you who are clueless about what to get for your secret santa, loved one, or for a random person.
