Review from Kat F.
Every time I've gone by Pulp Kitchen it's been closed - they have the strangest business hours ever - essentially they're not open for dinner so you can only visit if you're unemployed or work a night shift (alternately, on the weekend).
I had the day off and happened to be in the neighbourhood so I was stoked to finally get to try it. We each ordered HUGE smoothies (super tasty!) and I got a massive portion of hot oatmeal ("whole rolled oats, raisins and vanilla, topped with caramelized banana and drizzled with pure maple syrup") and my friend got the meat lover's veggie burger, which, as an omnivore, he spoke very highly of. The oatmeal was a killer and I just wish I lived in the neighbourhood so I could have this for breakfast every day.
I'd definitely go back if their schedule and mine were to match up! -

here's one place that as far as im concerned is just as good as Fresh and seemingly not as expensive. the last two times ive been there ive had a veggie burger - a la fake meat styles - in a wrap. that came with a salad. and a smoothie (but only because i ordered it.)
they make it so well, i couldnt care less that its not meat - because it has a similar consistency, and gives enough of the impression without being that extra bit of red meat you might want to avoid that day. its filled with cilantro dijon mayo, roasted tomatoes, fresh greens and caramelized onion.
the other thing ive tried here is the crispy crunchy which is bits of nestle crispy crunch stir fried with caramel covered tofu with a dash of tamari.
sounds good huh?
just kidding. (this is the point where, if my wife was reading this review, she'd turn to me, as i giggle in front of my computer, and call me a nerd.)
what it really is is cucumber & green bean salad w/ a tangy vinaigrette topped with breaded tofu & sautéed mushrooms. the veggies are cooked to perfection retaining their vibrant colours, their crispness and are supported by the equally crispy tofu. thats my favorite kind of tofu serving style - where i dont wish that the tofu i am eating is anything other than tofu.
to get in all your food groups for the day, how about suckin back a big fat smoothie like the Red Blazer which is raspberries, banana & fresh orange juice - nothing too innovative or complicated here, but hey sometimes you just dont want to mess with gods green earth, you know?
