Came here last night for a friend's birthday - wanted a low key celebration. It was busier than my previous visits, but still a few tables empty. Friend was talking to one of the regulars and told him it was her birthday. Bartender overheard and gave us both chocolate-blueberry martinis on the house. Which was mostly liquor with a tiny bit of water, and pretty tasty (as free liquor usually is). Pitchers of ABG (we guessed Alberta Genuine Draft) were $10.50. Kareoke night started at 9pm, but before that the *entertainment* was watching a drunk guy fall off his chair twice, before being kicked out by the friendly bartender. Kareoke was awesome! I didn't sing, but the singers that did were clearly having fun. No one was really good, but that is what made it better! No intimidation! The bartender and bouncer even sang.
I'll definitely be back soon. And perhaps this time I'll even sing!Listed in: Cheap Beer in Vancouver

Ended up in here way too late on saturday night and oh what a dive it is, but an awesome dive indeed!! Super unbelievably cheap drinks, i tested them and bought a caesar and it wasnt half bad, turbo spicy but not bad. The staff is awesome , people are friendly but it is a dive bar. Lots of dreads and punks and that sort, a dude even skateboarded thru the place at one point haha but if youve had a few drinks, feel like meeting some rad strangers(everyone was super friendly and talkative) and having a few more super cheap drinks, venture into pub 340. its big! you will fit.

Well this is for sure a dive bar. The good news is that they have real cheap drink prices.

Cheap drinks and lots o space! Only been here once but it seems like a place that rarely gets skin-to-skin full, which is an A+ in my books.
People are super friendly- if they have a question, they'll just come right up to you and ask...as opposed to staring at you from across the room with a shiny glint in their eye, which happens a lot. I'm surprised not more people come here especially when their neighbor (The Cambie) always has a freakishly long line up.
So Cambie rejects, hit this place up! It may be kinda dead inside but as long as you have friends, it'll be a good time. -

One of the best dive-venues in town, if you're going for the right night/set of bands/etc. The dance floor is quite spacious on weekends, interrupted only by a support pillar. The booths on the outside corner of the venue can make for some intimate seats as well. The crowd is a mix of old and young on weekdays, with regulars (some notable such as lead singer of SNFU Chi Pig) dropping in all the time. The bar staff is very friendly and doesn't always expect a tip. The beer is reasonable on weekends (with a last call of 3AM!) and very cheap on weekdays ($9 pitchers?).
Yet, this wouldnt be a dive venue without the bands. On weekends the bands can vary. In the two years I've frequented this bar they've been known to play punk, then DJ music, then hardcore/metal, and occasionally a very corny 60s rock cover band. Now they host an eclectic mix of young acts on weekends, and their weekly kareoke event on Mondays is hilarious. They occasionally have other shows posted on flyers in the front.
The door guys can be dicks, the bathrooms on both genders are atrociously bad (think puke in the urinals, piss on the floor, and the nightly special on the sink counter) and the beer tastes like piss, but this is one of the better "discount" venues the city has to offer, both in location and in decor.Listed in: Dance to this music, Dive drinks

Okay, so I have a few friends in bands and playing Pub 340 is pretty much de rigeur for any up and coming Vancouver band. Well, the "up" part is up for debate depending on the artists or "artists" involved. In any case, I think I've been here enough to be like...um...what would I be like? Well, let's just say sometimes I leave confused by what I just saw, occasionally drenched in sweat, but almost always drunk as fuck. Something about the place just induces poor drinking habits.
So the last show I saw, it was kind of awkward...let me explain. So my friend was playing a hip-hop show, and he was doin' his thing and it was all well and good until this guy started stripping and gyrating his junk hither and thither*. Anyways, a fight broke out between this dude and some aggro-monkeys and the night just kinda got more tense from there. This night was the exception though, folks. Most of the time it's alright. Really.

The Cambie denied us, on account of last call, which could only lead to stickier things - oh Pub 340.
The scene - long haired, skinny dudes screaming into microphones (my ears continue to ring), 1994 all over again - hey, is that plaid? And me, long floral dress - high heeled sandals, and one too many bevvies in!
I lasted 1/2 a pint and then I had to leave...why? Because I had to use the loo and could not bring myself near it here.
But, Pub 340 gets my 3 stars because not one person batted an eye at my fancy pants. I felt accepted and ignored. Perfect! But I think they might want to change their name to 1994! -

Pub 340 is a time warp-dive in transition. Ladies with fried mullets, lots of eyeliner, and 'party' tops mix with a crowd of messy haired, skinny-jeaned youngsters.
A Keno board and a low budget attempt at a "goth" interior courtesy of a black-and-red paint job over textured stucco, and possible she-males tending bar round out the ambiance.
What else? Oh yeah they had $3.75 Moosehead beer and the acoustics aren't very good. The $10 cover was a bit of a rip. -

Cheap drinks and a steady live music atmosphere make pub 340 an alright night out if you are on a bit of a budget. The place is hardly ever full giving you a lot of room and they play a variety of music there. It is a dive but it's that kind of bar and that is part of the appeal. A lot of bands that I've seen there when I've walked off the street sucked but saying that there are some diamonds in the rough. The staff there are nice and there is normally something worth talking about going
On. To fully get the most out of the pub 340 experiance then you should
research the band/musican before heading there. Mr Chi Pig from SNFU
is a regular there and I've also seen some of bad religion enjoying a
drink at pub 340. -

Pub 340 is a great dive. The occasional night at a dive is always in good taste. Down in Gastown, the inside is spacious far beyond what you'd expect. Now I can't speak to other nights here, but my personal favourite party promoters, 1/2 Alive, throw one helluva night on Friday. The volume is loud, the music is great and the drinks are cheap. Very cheap. They frequently have bands and guest djs come in from around Canada and internationally. If you are fond of dancing to pumping electro, then this is always a safe Friday night bet. 1/2 continues to impress, if you're looking for good parties in this city then check out what they throw. Naturally you have Facebook, look them up and join the mailing list. Your ears will thank you.

Cool place with great people attending it. My girlfriend and I where wearing two yellow jackets the night we went, just by pure chance. The guy at the door said "Yellow coats, I love that shit!". After leaving, the same guy said goodbye as an old friend. The "headbangers" concert that we saw was cool, tons of free decibels and a mixed crowd.
